Vikram emerged from the vault, carrying Mr. Desai, to find Rohan firing his Aetheric rifle down the flooded corridor.
Three Malhotra enforcers lay fallen on the wet stone, but more were advancing, their blue bullets chipping away at the brick arches.
"We need an exit!" Rohan yelled, his rifle running hot.
"The backup sewage line," Desai gasped, pointing to a rusty metal hatch in the floor. "It drains directly into the harbor. It's manual... no electronic lock."
Vikram ran to the hatch, kicking the rusted iron wheel. With a screech of metal, the hatch opened, revealing a dark, vertical drop that smelled of stagnant water.
"Rohan, go first!" Vikram ordered.
Rohan climbed in, sliding down the pipe. Vikram helped Desai down, then turned to face the advancing guards.
A Chaya-Duta enforcer stepped through the smoke, raising a hand to fire a solid shadow spike. Vikram folded the shadow, appearing behind the enforcer, and drove a powerful elbow into his neck. The enforcer fell.
Vikram jumped into the hatch just as a volley of bullets sparked off the iron rim. He slid down the dark pipe, splashing into the cold waters of the Mumbai harbor.
