Karna moved towards Gildart's house knowing that Cornelia had told him to go home and to stop creating any sort of problems in the guild.
"What the hell are you doing here kid?" A grumpy Gildarts asked as he was sitting in the lawn of the house. He seemed extremely bored.
Well. He can't be blamed for that. after the buildings were switched out because of the reverse Anima from Edolas, the Gildarts shift mechanism of the entire city needed a rework that would take months or even an year.
Karna remembered the time the city had decided to put the Gildarts shift. There was an avalanche of magical beasts that suddenly attacked Magnolia that day. It was caused by a lunatic dark wizard who wanted to control the world by taming those beasts.
But the problem was that he got killed during the activation of that forbidden ritual, making Magnolia, the place where he did the ritual, a beacon for every magical beast within fifty miles of it.
Karna was out on a mission during that time, but from what he heard, Gildarts had destroyed the town in a single punch, destroying the magic circle and making the beasts run away in fear.
The townspeople were sceptical of the result as there was no civilian casualties, but the town was entirely destroyed. Some said that the town would have been destroyed even if Gildarts was not there to do it and Gildarts had actually saved the people's life by destroying it.
So, the mayor along with the master decided to rebuild the city. And at the same time, do a few editing in the entire structure so as to reduce the destruction caused by the absent-minded Gildarts.
But right now, when almost all the buildings are intact, restructuring will require destroying the houses and arranging it.
Yeah, not happening.
So right now, they are waiting for the next big destruction to happen. Though they are having mixed feelings about it seeing that they are praying for a valid reason for everything to be destroyed so that they can re create it to not get destroyed further.
Yeah, Karna was not going near that.
"Alright old man, you heard about the S class trials coming soon right?" Karna spoke and a bit of fire started coming in Gildart's eyes.
"Oh yes, how can I forget. I have the chance to use violence on all those idiots without Cornelia getting mad" Gildarts said while punching his open hand.
'Not the aim of the test, but sure' Karna thought as he continued.
"Well, we had a lot of S class wizards, so we decided it was better for you to stay back and keep watch on the guild while the others go to Tenrou island for the test"
Karna watched as Gildart's elated expression due to his sadism change to surprise, horrifying reaction to a look of betrayal.
"But…. but…why can't others do it" Gildarts asked
"Well Master needs to be there because he is the guild master, I am the second strongest currently, so I have to be there and all those with power levels under you won't be able to manage the guild alone.
Basically, you are strong enough that all the others can go while you hold down the fort." Karna said with a small grin.
"What the hell!!, that's not fair. Why can't I go out and have fun with you guys" Gildarts complained while sounding like a whining child.
"Alright then" Karna turned around and talked while walking "I will tell Cornelia that Gildarts does not want to remain in the guild with her even though he was gone for many years on a quest and only came back recently"
"Wait , Noooooo!!" Gildarts shouted as he tackled Karna.
After a few minutes of discussion.
"Alright fine, I agree. But what is the real reason kid?" Gildarts asked serious this time while putting away any jokes.
'Thought so, even though he looks stupid most of the time, he isn't an actual idiot. He might have easily realised that the reason I told him was a complete bullshit'
"Let's just say, that our guild might have some trouble in the future. We will need you to protect it when problems appear" I said.
Gildart's expression sharpened.
"Alright kid, you guys go out there and come back safely, I'll make sure to take out anyone who has any ill intentions towards the guild" Gildarts said as he slightly flared his aura.
I smiled and walked back, knowing that I had duped him successfully. Gildarts now believes that the danger will appear on the guild instead of the people who are going to the island.
I hope he won't kill me after I come back in seven years.
'Now, I guess I have a date' Karna thought nervously as he went near the now displaced fountain. The meeting place that Ultear told him about.
As he was thinking on how to face it, he was suddenly ambushed by Ultear who hugged his arm without any warning. He turned around while startled as he never sensed her getting near him.
She had a smile on her face that widened when she realised she had caught me off guard.
"What do you think?, it's a stealth technique I got while combining both time and cold. Hehehe" She laughed at the end as she explained what she did.
Karna listened carefully as she explained the complications of the spell. But at the same time, he was thinking about what was currently happening.
He was currently dating a friend of his with the complete permission of his girlfriend who once said she will kill herself if he dies.
Karna still had no idea on how to deal with his as he had never imagined himself in this scenario. As he was about to voice it out. Suddenly she closed his mouth by using her fingers.
"Alright now, I know what you are going to say next. About how you have never thought about it. How you only thought about Cana and how you only thought of me as your friend alone. Nod if you agree"
Karna nodded.
"Well, for the rest of the date, you are going to shut up and let me lead you throughout this date. As for the matter of you seeing me only as a friend" she suddenly came close to Karna by so much that the only thing separating them was the finger she had on his lips.
"We will see about that" she said with a smile that reminded Karna of her evil counterpart.
