In the year 2126, in an apartment on the outskirts of Tokyo.
Uhh, my head hurts. Where am I? I look around and see that I'm lying on a bed. Looking out the window, I see a dystopian city and smog covering the sky. So I am an overlord. Now what?

I click [Continue], and a bunch of information opens up. I first see that the system will only last if I stay in this world. And it will not join me in the new world. If I even go to the new world, which I will. As I proceed to look out the window and see smog, looking back, I continue to read. And I find that the system has no true intelligence, unlike the great Sage in that one manga I read. But as I look through the system, I find that there is a loot box-like option where upon completing missions, I get a reward. Which will be really useful, although it seems like the rewards will only really be money and miscellaneous stuff. But that's better than nothing, I suppose. Especially in a world like this, where corporate slaves are more common than concrete.

Ohh, I completed a mission. And I got a bronze loot box. And it seems that I got all the memories of this body. Hmm, it seems that my new name in this second life is Akira. And it seems that what the system gave me is true. Just a day ago, it seems my father in this life died. And everything he had has gone to me. Including his small fortune. Although it seems like half of it has been taken by some debt collectors my father tried to swindle.
Although I'm not too upset. He was an asshole who barely took care of me after my mother died. Quite the womanizer as well. But at least he knew how to make money.
I get out of my thoughts and decide to walk over to the mirror. So I guess this is the new me. Pretty average-looking, I guess. Although it seems like I got my mother's eyes. And I have black hair like every other person in Asia.
I suppose I should open up that bronze loot box now. I pull up the system and click [Open]. I see a bronze box in front of me start to crack, and three prominent lights start to come out of it. I see grey, green, and blue, and little sparks of purple. But it seems to stop at blue. The box opens up. I look inside and see a futuristic-looking VR headset and some money. I pick up the futuristic-looking headset and get a small epiphany as I remember seeing an advertisement about this headset. It's one of the newer gaming headsets in the market.
So this is the thing everyone is talking about. It's three times more powerful than the previous VR headset in the market. I suppose I put this on my desk. I look back inside the box and pick up the money. And it seems to be 295,000.00 yen, roughly 2000 US dollars. I suppose this will come in handy. But from what I remember, I still have a lot of money that my father left me. But I suppose I should do some research on Yggdrasil if it's come out yet. If so, I need to get a gaming PC and get anything I need to set it up.
If it hasn't come out yet, then I have time to prepare. Which I hope is the case. Because then I can reap more rewards and get a better start than most other players.
