Dev couldn't read Elestria's mind. So, he just stared at her, prompting her to say something.
The urgency made it impossible for Elestria to think clearly. She played with her cookie-slippery fingers. She squeaked, "How, how was it in Emberfall?"
Dev raised his eyebrows.
Elestria looked at him. Five seconds later she looked down. She was calmer as she stared at her knuckles. "Is Emberfall all... all white wolves?"
"Not all." Dev had an amused smile. He had forgotten how many times he had smiled. "Emberfall is predominantly black wolves. I'm one of the white wolves."
Elestria nodded. Again, she nodded.
"You are confused, hm?"
She neither nodded nor shook her head. She just looked down.
"Count on me."
Elestria looked up.
"Rely on me when you want something. I will fulfill it."
It takes a lot of courage to ask someone to count on you. There is no cancellation if that person has already accepted it. Dev was ready for the consequences. He wanted Elestria not to be afraid.
