Chapter 1 - Chapter 0: A man shall die, but be reborn

-American research lab of supernatural phenomenon-

In the building which seemed to be wholey constructed of metal and parts of white stone and brick, was a lab said to contain the righteous and genius minds of the nation in supernatural phenomenon. The building had three stories high and was several stories deep, about 10 or so. The research lab occupied a vast amount of land subsidized by the government to research and explain the supernatural phenomenon which is populating the earth.

Sheldon Gordon, a research scientist who graduated from university some time ago, was heading a project that would explain or at least give an idea about a phenomenon which allows the growth and creation of supernatural phenomenon.

In bunker level ten, the one where the research expirament is taking place, Sheldon is staring down at his notes for what seemed like the thousandth time for the day. Others were waiting on his command to begin the experiment.

"Sheldon, the machine is complete, can we begin now?" complained a younger scientist, who looked like a fresh graduate from university. Sheldon did not react to it in vocal ways, but he looked at him with a stern eye and caused him to calm up.

He went back to his notes for a final look over before he nodded yes.

He stood up, his posture straight as if an iron bar was place in his spine to kept it straight. People thought it was quite neat and befitting his position, but it was just his time in the Jrotc in his high school that kept it straight.

"Rodriguez" he spoke as a scientist emerged from the shadows onto the railing giving an overlook on the machine they built for a singular purpose.

"Yes sir?" asked Rodriguez as he fixed his glasses which was drooping almost off his face. "Is the machine ready?""Yes sir, everything has been calibrated and the specs and constructions are all in place" he responded to the question as Sheldon nodded. "Alright, lets head down there and begin the experiment" he called as he descended the stairs with Rodriguez following after.

The experiment, in simple terms, was the analysis of energy wavelengths and forms to determine the root cause of supernatural phenomenon using a material known as Mythril to forge a resonance frequency.

This will be done through a subtle fission process to cause a reaction and use the reactor and an attached sensor to observe the phenomenon. Of course, the machine and material are stable and variables are accounted for.

Sheldon arrived and nodded to one of the scientist nearby and they punched a button and fiddled with some of the dials and began the fission process. "Alright, make sure you keep observation!" Sheldon shouted. He was not about to have a problem on this miraculous day.

The culmination of years of work on theory, review processes, and approval for this to start. Not to even mention the funding they struggled to procure to make this experiment even possible.

Sheldon observed the process, the fissioning of mythril. The reactor machine was containing the burst of energy, and it was getting readings for the unusual energy it was perceiving.

Sheldon eyed the glow with apprehension and uttered a short prayer as the machine contained the glow behind its metal shell. Through an attached screen, the scientist were observing the reaction down to the most micro levels, it might as well have been observing quarks.

"That energy wave right there" Rodriguez pointed out as they observed the screen with Sheldon scrutinizing it. "It looks differently than the rest, its forms and pattern are out of the norm for usual readings" he finished.

Sheldon nodded, as the energy wavelengths they were observing was out of norm for usual readings and studies. Maybe it operated under quantum uncertainty, who knows. Sheldon was already observing the phenomenon when an irregularity was beginning to form in the energy and the energy being produced was going overboard.

"Alright everyone, keep it below max level! Try to funnel it out!" Sheldon screamed, and the scientist nearby began by opening certain valves and tubes to funnel the energy out the machine into nearby cannisters. However, to their chargrin, the energy was still being produced above max board, and the disaster began to happen.

the machine, while built to withstand the energy produced from several nuclear explosions, was beginning to burst apart at the seems. Bolts went flying out and the metal was beginning melt into slag.

" Begin evacuation protocols!" Sheldon yelled as he hit the emergency alarm to notify the superiors and the local government officials of the impending damages. The younger scientist were being funneled out first, up the emergency elevators and stairs and anything that was available.

Then the older ones were being evacuated. Sheldon was about to leave before he noticed something. "Alright, Ill meet you guys back up!" he announced, and to the cry of his subordinates, he closed the elevator and sent them up.

He came back down and noticed some of the valves were not opening up correctly, thus letting the energy build up in the machine. He went down flights of stairs to manually open the valves. It was dangerous, and even the heat was beginning to build up.

He twisted the valves and the energy began to flow, yet it refused to die down and the metal around his being turned into slag as a slight crack was viewable on the glass. Sheldon had thoughts of fleeing, he wanted to live and see his parents, yet he didn't want to abandon a project he sacrificed his own health for.

He went to the last valve, yet before he made it, the machine burst open and the energy spread out it waves, and despite all prayers and miracles that could happen in the world, Sheldon was caught up in the explosion, and not even his body remained.

-Empty Space-

Empty space, more accurately called the land of the gap, was a place between the seems of the multiverse. It was a place unreachable by most and is considered a land where no laws are in place.

Sheldon existed here in not but the form of a soul. He was drifting, conscious yet could not even move his own body. He was aware of where he was, not the name of course, but he was aware he was somewhere he shouldn't be.

'The experiment went wrong' he thought to himself. 'All those years wasted and the facility is even damaged. Can kiss my team goodbye' he cried as he drifted endlessly in empty space. Then, he felt something start to wrap around his body. It felt like threads from a sweatshirt that was coming undone. He was pulled by these threads to somewhere he couldn't know.

He then felt as if he could move his fingers, and then came along his toes and his whole body seemed to follow suite. He tried to get into an upright position, which he suceeded at after a minute. He then saw his whole body was made from blue energy, which seemed almost mist yet liquid like.

He remembered how the energy which killed him had a similar look. As he was analyzing his new form, he was pulled into a place which was swarming with the blueish energies. A thought entered his mind, and he knew all that was before him.

The well spring of all the multiverse potential. The reason for ones growth and stagnation, the reason for evolution put forth into many worlds without divine interference. The source of supernatural phenomenon.

Of course, that wasn't the most surprising part, he was the avatar of the wellspring, a being of infinite potential, and he could grasp the direction on which these strings led, and a desire began to fester within him.

He wanted to travel to where these threads went, to grow into supernatural powers of his own. Domination wasn't his thoughts, but the ability to grow unabated with potential unfounded in all men.

As his desires firmed he grasped one of the threads, a power filling his body and soul as he tugged the string and he was pulled, a feeling which was akin to suction by a hi tech vacuum, or the vacuum of space pulling him to and frow as he disappeared from empty space. It was empty, except for a might guffaw that echoed in the gaps of space and time, seemingly filled with enjoyment.
