IMOGEN'S POV
Elijah stood, and when he spoke, his voice carried just the right note of sincerity mixed with regret. "Your Honor, I know I made mistakes. Serious mistakes. I let outside pressures affect my judgment, and I hurt the woman I love in ways I deeply regret."
My stomach churned. He was good at this. Too good.
"Imogen is the mother of my child," he continued. "She's the only woman I've ever truly loved. If there's any chance we can rebuild what we had, I have to try. Our son deserves to have his family whole."
The mention of Joseph made my hands clench into fists under the table. Using our child as emotional leverage, just like I'd known he would.
Judge Morrison turned to me. "Mrs. Rossi, I'd like to hear from you directly. How do you respond to your husband's statement?"
I stood slowly, feeling every eye in the courtroom on me. This was the moment where everything could go wrong. Where I could let anger or disgust show on my face and destroy months of careful planning.
