IMOGEN'S POV
The car ride to Joseph's school was quiet until Talia leaned in slightly from the front seat and whispered, "We're being followed. Black Studebaker, three cars back. Been tailing since we left Mr Elijah's office."
"Good," I said, not even pretending to be alarmed. "That means Mr. Sutton still has hands wrapped around Elijah. I was beginning to wonder when he or his daughter would take the bait."
Talia's eyes met mine in the rearview mirror, steady and sharp. I lowered my voice. "Get out when we reach the light. Drop the sample with Dr. Monroe at Good Samaritan Hospital. Tell him you're from me. He'll know what to do."
"Understood," she said.
The car slowed at a yellow light. Talia opened the door with barely a sound and slipped away, blending into the sidewalk like she'd rehearsed it.
The car moved on.
