On a Sunday afternoon, Mrs. Cheng had spent the entire afternoon cooking a lavish meal. They had only brought Cheng Xiaopeng home this year, having never met the mother-son pair previously. The relationship between them was inevitably awkward, even polite like strangers. With the thought of having to rely on this son in the future and guilt towards their younger son, Mrs. Cheng was making a great effort to cultivate intimacy with her son.
"Old Cheng, why haven't Xiaopeng and Rou Rou come back yet? Call them." Mrs. Cheng became anxious as she set up the table with the dinner meal but the two hadn't returned yet.
Her older son simply went out for the afternoon, and hadn't returned for dinner, and then…. never returned, leaving a shadow cast in her heart.
"They're adults and it's normal for them to not be back until this time. Don't worry." Mr. Cheng read the newspaper without lifting his head.
