Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

I stood there for a while, contemplating the peculiar existence of a brothel in a supposedly "holy" city. "Wait... why the hell is there a brothel in a so-called, 'holy' city!? No... I shouldn't question the gods' will. I suppose the gold in this city has to be paid for in some way..." As time passed, I grew impatient. "Morsus. Ardent. How are things progressing on your ends?"

"I already acquired a uniform. Waiting in the shadows until it's time," Ardent replied.

"Good. I'm close to getting mine. And you, Morsus?"

"I'm struggling a bit, but I do have a plan... somewhat..."

"Somewhat!? Morsus, we can't rely on 'somewhat'! Do you need some help?"

"No, Lucius! I'm not a child! This is my problem, so I'll sort it!"

"The problem is that this isn't just your problem; it's everyone's problem! If you mess up just a bit, it could yield catastrophic consequences!"

"I know that, so just shut the hell up!"

"What did you just say?"

"You heard me."

"You're walking on thin ice, Morsus. Get your act together or leave. Ardent and I will finish this job, alone."

"Pfft! Be that as it may!" I cancelled my telepathic channel with them to cut off their voices until I decided to activate it again. (Damn it! Where is that whore!? I swear I'm going to barge into that brothel and kill every whore in sight!)

After a while, just when I considered counting my losses, the whore returned with guards. She was sobbing and full of tears, pointing her finger at me. (Oh, shit...) I tried to walk the other way, acting unaware. The guards began chasing me, and with everything and everyone in the way, I pushed through, drawing attention to myself. (I really messed up this time... Damn it!) More guards swarmed my way, and an alarm sounded, alerting the whole city to my presence. I dodged and melded with the shadows, running faster than any human could. Though I managed to lose most of the guards, they now knew I was no ordinary person.

Due to unfamiliarity with the city's complicated streets, I ran into a dead end. I turned around and saw five guards approaching, out of breath. (Looks like I have no other choice but to fight. I could easily take down all five with my bare hands, but I have no time for that, and I don't have my sword with me. Guess I'll have to use this blood dagger. It's a very useful tool, though I prefer my black blade instead. "Halt! You are the one who threatened to kill a woman's life! We need you to come with us for questioning!" I pulled out the blood dagger. "Drop your weapon, or you'll regret it!" I lunged forward and stuck the dagger in one guard's neck. I pulled it out, and the blood from his body began pouring out towards the blade of the dagger, connecting like a string of blood. Furthermore, I pulled further away, and a huge ball of blood began forming on top of me. A second later, I drained the guard's blood completely, leaving him as nothing more than a human raisin. The other guards froze in shock, giving me enough time to cut open their throats and quickly drain their blood. They all lay there dead. (A very good blade for assassinations and silent kills. It can drain the blood of any animal or human instantly. Even a small cut can be lethal, depending on your target's bleeding, but I still prefer my black blade.) I noticed one of the guard's uniforms looked much more decorated. I hoped that was the right uniform. Furthermore, I quickly changed clothes and stuffed their fragile bodies into a nearby barrel, ensuring no one saw me. (Great. Now I can speak to Lucius again and tell him of my success.) I reactivated my beacon orb. "Lucius. I got a uniform."

"Morsus! What the hell did you do?! The whole bloody city knows about you now! They're on alert and might have to cancel the baptism ceremony! I should have known you were still too inexperienced for this... "

"But I have a uniform on! They won't suspect me!"

"You are dismissed from the contract, Morsus."

"Wait what!?"

"I said you are dismissed from the contract! Return to your chamber and wait for further instructions. Ardent and I will try to clean up whatever evidence there is of us being here. Now go!"

A strange feeling started to form inside me. What is it? I never felt like this... is this what humans call "rage"? But how!? Vampires aren't supposed to have this emotion! *I am not supposed to feel this emotion! I am supposed to be one of the best! A perfect being! No flaws! No drawbacks! No Nothing! WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME? Am I becoming a human? Am I becoming unbalanced? No! Impossible! Never! Never! Never! Oh, no... I can't let the others see me like this! I don't know what they would do to me if they saw I was unbalanced! I need to go to my room and figure out what is happening...
