Fiona walked up to Liliana, who was sitting on the sofa, and hugged her thigh, her face filled with sadness and desperation.
Behind her, Charlotte, Iris, and Stella followed, each wearing an expression no less sorrowful than Fiona's.
Liliana forced a smile, then gently lifted Fiona and placed her on her lap.
"Don't worry, Fiona. Your daddy will be fine. You know how strong and amazing he is, don't you?" she said softly, trying to soothe her with affection.
But those words didn't reflect her true feelings. Her heart grew heavier and more painful every time she imagined the possibility of Leon's sudden death.
Still, she kept convincing herself he couldn't be dead—that he was still alive somewhere.
But no matter how hard she tried, her panic and fear continued to grow day by day, slowly, surely, and unstoppably.
