Chapter 746 - Chapter 746: Social Climbers

The restaurant quieted down as Matthew pulled Emma Roberts to a corner. The crew members who came in later separated her completely from Anne Hathaway, preventing further chaos. For a moment, the only sound in the restaurant was Anne Hathaway's sobbing.

Matthew went over to check on her. Anne Hathaway was in bad shape, with four or five red marks on her face, her nose bleeding continuously, and her exposed arms showing multiple bite marks.

While Anne Hathaway wept, Emma Roberts, seeing more and more people from the crew arrive, suddenly clung to Matthew and burst into tears, as if she had broken down completely.

Things had escalated to a point where they could no longer be resolved easily.

Soon, the police arrived.

The manager of the Hilton Hotel who rushed over had a dark expression on his face. In just a few days, the police had come to the hotel twice, both times due to incidents involving the "Inception" crew.

This crew was practically cursed.

The manager quietly glanced at Matthew, Emma Roberts, Anne Hathaway, and Christopher Nolan in the restaurant, mentally placing all of them, especially Christopher Nolan, on the hotel's blacklist. There was no way he would allow Nolan's crew to stay or film there again.

A few more incidents like this, and the Hilton Hotel's reputation would be ruined.

The catfight between the two actresses drew more attention than the paparazzi scandal with Matthew Horner a few days ago. While the earlier incident could be chalked up to a lapse in hotel management, today's incident was purely the crew causing trouble for the Hilton Hotel.

Could they even continue this partnership anymore? It was as if they were trying to get the hotel shut down.

The police took Emma Roberts and Anne Hathaway away.

The restaurant returned to its quiet state. Matthew noticed that the others, like him, were a bit dazed. No one expected the petite, sweet-looking Emma Roberts to have such a wild and violent side.

She was like a formidable tomboy.

Christopher Nolan and one of the producers from the crew also went to the police station. This situation, while complex, could also be straightforward to handle. However, with Anne Hathaway in such a bad condition, it would be difficult to resolve it simply.

Matthew hadn't yet decided what to do about the situation when Emma Roberts' assistant came running over with a phone. Strangely, the person on the other end was Helen Herman.

After a brief conversation, he understood the situation. Helen Herman was attending an event with many Hollywood stars, and Emma Roberts' assistant had contacted Julia Roberts, who was also at the event. Julia Roberts knew Matthew was filming nearby and asked Helen Herman to request him to bail out Emma Roberts. She would fly to the UK immediately.

On one side was the former Hollywood queen-turned-producer with extensive connections, and on the other was Anne Hathaway. The choice was simple.

With Matthew's personality and Helen Herman's call, he readily agreed.

Soon after, he received the contact information for Julia Roberts' lawyer and headed to the police station.

On the way, Matthew checked the mobile network and found that news of Emma Roberts' fight with Anne Hathaway had already leaked, just like the incident involving him the other day. The descriptions online were vivid, as if the authors had witnessed the fight firsthand.

It had to be said, the British gossip industry was far ahead of its counterparts in other parts of the world.

Matthew even found an especially imaginative story on The Sun's website. The article claimed that Emma Roberts and Anne Hathaway were originally a lesbian couple who had a great relationship. However, after joining the "Inception" crew, their relationship took a sharp downturn. Anne Hathaway supposedly had an affair with Matthew, which led to her wanting to break up with Emma Roberts. Emma's anger over this caused the physical altercation.

The British entertainment reporters were not only well-informed but also much more creative than their American counterparts.

Matthew also found a similarly crafted article in The Daily Telegraph. To distinguish itself from The Sun, it didn't claim Emma Roberts and Anne Hathaway were lovers, but it did drag Matthew into the situation, alleging he was involved with both actresses, which led to the violent fallout between them.

Reading several more gossip pieces, Matthew couldn't help but think that these British entertainment reporters were wasting their talents by not writing novels or screenplays.

When he arrived at the police station and met Julia Roberts' lawyer, Matthew learned that Anne Hathaway and Emma Roberts were still giving statements. However, from what a producer who had arrived earlier told him, Anne Hathaway intended to press charges against Emma Roberts for assault.

After all, Anne Hathaway had indeed been badly beaten.

Matthew pondered for a moment and then approached Christopher Nolan, who had also come to the station with the producer.

"I heard Anne plans to escalate this?" he asked Nolan.

Christopher Nolan nodded and sighed, asking, "I wasn't paying attention this afternoon—did Anne Hathaway deliberately hurt Emma Roberts during the filming?"

Matthew replied honestly, "I'm not sure if it was intentional. But after Anne stabbed Emma, she was in pain for quite a while, squatting on the ground, unable to get up. I had to help her back to the trailer."

He glanced at Christopher Nolan and asked, "How are we going to handle this?"

Nolan spoke softly, "It's best to handle this quietly."

"Agreed," Matthew responded quietly. "Julia Roberts is on her way. Once the police are done, shouldn't we get Anne and Emma out of here? The longer they stay, the bigger the problem will become, and it'll hurt the crew."

It was best for the crew to step in and handle the situation.

Matthew sought out Christopher Nolan because he wanted the crew to help get Emma Roberts released first.

As for how to calm down Anne Hathaway, Julia Roberts would arrive tomorrow, and she could handle that.

"The crew's legal adviser is already on their way," Christopher Nolan said. "This situation is a headache."

It was common for actresses to clash on set, but for one to physically assault the other was rare. Even for a seasoned director like Christopher Nolan, this was an unusual situation.

They remained at the police station until the early hours of the morning, and only after the crew's legal adviser completed the paperwork were Emma Roberts and Anne Hathaway allowed to leave temporarily, returning to the Hilton Hotel. However, neither could leave London for the time being.

Anne Hathaway went straight to the hospital, apparently to document her injuries.

A large group of paparazzi had gathered outside the police station. Matthew and his group were nearly swarmed by them, struggling to break free from the encirclement.

Back at the hotel, Christopher Nolan said something to Emma Roberts that made her face turn pale.

After Nolan left, Matthew walked up to Emma Roberts and gently patted her arm. "Alright, go get some rest."

Emma Roberts nodded and suddenly asked, "Did I scare all of you?"

Matthew didn't answer directly. Instead, he said, "Your aunt called me. She'll probably arrive tomorrow."

Emma Roberts' assistant came over with the phone, saying it was a call from Los Angeles. Matthew then took his leave.

Due to the incident, the next day's shoot was canceled. When Julia Roberts arrived, she specifically sought out Matthew to understand the situation. Matthew refrained from getting further involved, knowing Julia Roberts had plenty of resources to handle things behind the scenes.

By Saturday, Matthew visited Doughty Street Chambers to officially sign a representation agreement with Amal Alamuddin. She would file lawsuits against two paparazzi and the hotel server involved in his earlier scandal the following Monday.

After signing the contract, Matthew returned to the hotel and pulled out a mini-DV camera he had gotten from Brown Williams, preparing for his evening date with Amal Alamuddin.

With all the drama surrounding the crew, Matthew had no intention of leaving the hotel. He had arranged to meet Amal Alamuddin for dinner at one of the hotel's upscale restaurants.

At six in the evening, Matthew saw Amal Alamuddin in the restaurant, impeccably dressed for the occasion.

She was not like any woman Matthew had dated before, exuding a mature, intellectual aura unique to professional women, setting her apart from the actresses and models he had previously been involved with.

However, as the dinner progressed, Matthew recognized a common trait between Amal Alamuddin and Hollywood women—they were both social climbers.

With an Oxford undergraduate degree and an NYU Law School master's, one might expect her to be a disheveled academic type, but scholars could be beautiful too.

Matthew had always been interested in attractive intellectuals.

So, after dinner, he invited Amal Alamuddin to his room. True to her earlier promise, she readily agreed, following Matthew to his luxurious suite upstairs.

They had already set clear expectations beforehand. With everything laid out, Matthew didn't hesitate, and the conversations from the restaurant naturally transitioned into more intimate interactions in the suite.

That night, Amal Alamuddin didn't leave Matthew's suite.
