Chapter 717 - Chapter 717: An Unconventional Confession

Taylor Swift was terrifying when inspiration struck. In just half an hour, she had completed both the lyrics and melody for a new song, a speed so astonishing that Matthew could hardly believe it. Although Taylor Swift had been marketed as a country pop princess and a singer-songwriter since her debut, Matthew had heard from Helen Herman that most so-called singer-songwriters were just for show. However, it seemed Taylor Swift was genuinely talented in songwriting.

No matter how talented she was, by the afternoon, their roles had reversed. Matthew went from being the student to becoming the teacher, instructing her in some aspects of human biology and delving into the complex topic of how mammals reproduce.

That evening, a different kind of "learning session" erupted in the music practice room.

Matthew had heard plenty of rumors about what kind of woman Taylor Swift was, and as for himself, he had always been chasing his dreams.

Since neither of them was exactly innocent, and things had almost been laid bare in the afternoon, there was no need to be coy anymore.

To be honest, Matthew's teaching style was very different from how Taylor Swift had taught him earlier that day. No matter how hard Taylor Swift tried, she couldn't teach him to sing. On the other hand, Matthew didn't have much to teach because Taylor Swift was already an expert in this area.

Despite being just shy of falling into the category of '90s kids, Taylor Swift had only just turned nineteen, but she was clearly experienced and formidable in her "combat skills."

What shocked Matthew the most was that, at the peak of their passionate encounter, Taylor Swift suddenly left, claiming she had been struck by inspiration and locked herself in a room to write a song.

Matthew realized that this singer was using these special methods to trigger her inspiration. And when he later saw the lyrics she wrote, he couldn't shake the feeling that Taylor Swift was the protagonist of the song, with him as the leading man.

Not that he minded—there were already countless tabloid stories about him. Adding one more wouldn't make a difference.

However, using him as a muse to create a song did come with a price.

As a result, Taylor Swift barely slept the entire night, and by the next morning, she was looking somewhat dazed.

After resting for the entire morning, she recovered a bit and called Matthew into the living room for an unconventional confession.

"Matthew, I'm sure you've noticed," Taylor Swift, despite her young age, was very sharp. Otherwise, she wouldn't have stood out among so many girls with dreams of stardom. She knew she could deceive those aspiring starlets, but with someone as smart as Matthew, it was better to be a bit more honest. "Romantic feelings and relationships are my greatest sources of inspiration. I need constant stimulation to write great songs..."

"I've noticed," Matthew nodded.

Taylor Swift continued, "I've never had anyone inspire me as much as you do. Since yesterday, I've been incredibly energized, with a stronger creative drive than ever before."

She looked at Matthew and added, "When I'm stuck in a creative rut, I need this kind of stimulation the most." She suddenly grabbed Matthew's hand. "So, you're my muse. Will you be my boyfriend?"

Matthew was taken aback by her directness.

Seeing that he didn't respond immediately, Taylor Swift pressed on, "I'm serious. Will you be my boyfriend?"

"Well..." After what they had done the previous night, Matthew couldn't bring himself to reject her outright. "Taylor, this is all a bit sudden. Can I have some time to think about it?"

Although this wasn't the first time someone had confessed to him, he had never encountered a confession framed in terms of creative inspiration and muses before.

"Everything that happened last night proves we're a perfect match," Taylor Swift said, tightening her grip on Matthew's hand. "We were made for each other."

When she brought up last night, Matthew frowned slightly but still said, "Taylor, we've only known each other for a short time. We don't really know each other yet. Didn't you say yesterday that this is too fast?"

Taylor Swift dismissed his concerns. "That doesn't matter. If you won't pursue me, I'll pursue you."

Given their recent intimacy, Matthew had been polite in his refusals, but since she persisted, he was about to decline more directly when his phone suddenly rang.

He glanced at the screen—it was a call from Armani. He quickly answered, and the representative from Armani's custom tailoring department informed him that his Oscar suit was ready for him to try on.

Matthew put away his phone and said to Taylor Swift, "I have something urgent to take care of. I have to go."

Taylor Swift thought for a moment and then said, "I'll make plans to see you another time."

She hadn't expected this muse of hers to be so effective. Since it worked so well, she was determined to keep him close.

Matthew didn't respond, just waved and left the house. Taylor Swift escorted him all the way to the front door.

As he drove away, Matthew noticed that the paparazzi were practically in a frenzy. It looked like some had been camping out since the day before, just waiting for him to come out.

Driving out of Malibu, Matthew's mind was still processing what had just happened. Taylor Swift's way of confessing was really unconventional.

Suddenly, a thought occurred to him—was she being sincere? By laying out her motives for liking someone so clearly, it seemed she really was sincere.

After all, many men like a woman because of her looks, but they would never admit it, insisting they admired her personality instead.

Likewise, some women are attracted to a man's wealth but will always claim to be drawn to his talent.

In this light, Taylor Swift seemed full of sincerity.

She was a country pop princess with good looks, making her an ideal girlfriend by most standards.

But the problem was that Matthew wasn't part of that "most."

Matthew didn't mind being the male lead in one of Taylor Swift's songs. After all, if he'd driven her to distraction, it was only fair to expect something in return. A nineteen-year-old pop princess can't be expected to spend the night with you for free, right?

However, as for being her boyfriend, even though Taylor Swift seemed genuinely interested, Matthew didn't think it was a good idea.

He didn't mind that Taylor Swift was experienced in certain matters; that was normal for girls her age here.

Nor was it a dealbreaker that she viewed him as a source of inspiration.

To be honest, Taylor Swift fit his aesthetic perfectly, which is why he had agreed to take lessons from her in the first place.

The real issue was that he had previously dated a pop star and knew one thing: pop stars are several times busier than movie stars. They're either recording or promoting albums or constantly shuttling between planes, hotels, and performance venues.

As he thought about it, Matthew realized he was just looking for a good excuse to turn down Taylor Swift.

After all, they had just shared an intimate night, and he needed a reason that he could live with.

When Matthew arrived at Armani's store on Rodeo Drive, he headed straight to the second floor, where the haute couture section was located. A fashion designer and two assistants were waiting for him. They had prepared five suits for him to choose from for the upcoming Oscars.

After a quick glance, Matthew eliminated the white suit.

For men, when unsure about what to wear on the red carpet, opting for black and relatively conservative styles is always a safe bet.

This rule applies to women too.

Matthew chose a dark gray suit, along with the appropriate shoes and accessories.

Next, he stopped by Studio 13 in Century City. Although still technically a shell company, the studio now had over twenty employees, with Bella Anderson as the current manager.

This studio handled not only film investment business but also various affairs related to Matthew.

"There's another unauthorized biography about you on the market," Bella Anderson informed him, handing over a book. "This is the sixth one."

Matthew glanced at it. The cover didn't feature his photo, just a silhouette that looked a lot like him—likely to avoid legal issues.

"Ignore it," Matthew said, tossing the book aside.

Unauthorized biographies of celebrities were common in the North American book market. As long as the content wasn't too extreme, they usually didn't count as legal violations.

It wasn't just him. People like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Warren Buffett likely had countless unauthorized biographies.

Matthew didn't need to read it to know this so-called biography was full of gossip.

After all, the women he'd been with were numerous and famous, so it was no surprise.

Over the years, Matthew hadn't hidden his escapades, so they weren't secrets among industry insiders and entertainment journalists. Being vividly described, combined with his current fame, would undoubtedly attract a considerable audience.

The tales of his romances with Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Alba, and Rachel McAdams, among others, were all public knowledge. These women had even discussed their relationships with him during interviews, making it all an open secret.

Of course, these stars also praised his abilities in certain areas.

When someone becomes famous, all sorts of people and situations try to attach themselves to that fame.

Matthew had a good attitude about it. As long as things didn't go too far, he turned a blind eye. This was simply part of being a public figure.

If he were to start lawsuits over every little thing, he wouldn't have time for anything else, getting bogged down in endless disputes.

Since he'd chosen this path, he didn't care what people said. Unlike some who try to silence others, not allowing even the slightest mention.

There wasn't much going on at Studio 13. "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" and "The Hunger Games" were progressing smoothly, so Matthew could focus on being an Oscar presenter while also promoting "Fast & Furious 4."
