Chapter 102 - Chapter 101: Trials

On the other side, Shea, Tohru, Tio, and Yue currently witnessed a battle as multiple apostles engaged in combat with dragons.

Shea looked at them from a hidden spot and asked, "Hey, are those people also dragons?" She asked, not knowing the difference between a dragon and dragon men.

Tio stared at the sky with emotionless eyes and answered, "No, they are Dragon men."

"Really?" Shea looked at Tio with curiosity.

"That's right, as a dragon, I can attest to it," Tohru said from the side.

"The sky above is clear, and I don't sense anyone on the ground; we should start moving," Yue said while surveying the surroundings.

Everyone nods and starts to move forward.

"Hey, why can't we just destroy this illusion?" Shea asked.

"Yeah, I can easily annihilate all those illusions with ease," Tohru agreed.

"We can't do that. If we try, another illusion will likely replace this one, and we'll find ourselves right back where we started," Tio stated firmly as she walked ahead.

"Is that the only reason?" Yue stared at Tio with a sceptical gaze. From what she is sensing by , those illusions are dangerous.

Tio, noticing Yue's scepticism, explained, "These illusions are likely part of the trial set by the labyrinth. They probably reveal the atrocities committed by the gods in the past. If we destroy the illusion, we could risk failing the trial."

Yue stared at Tio, sensing she didn't lie. She nodded, "Alright."

"Even then, if those damn pigeons try to attack us, I will obliterate them," Tohru said, showing her fist.

"Let's go; we need to regroup with the master," Tohru said, taking the lead with a cheerful stride.

"Yeah," Shea agreed with her, following after her.

Yue and Tio, seeing them take the lead, followed after them.

Walking through the dark, labyrinthine corridors of an old ship, Hajime and Kaori were trying to find their way out.

Hajime looked back. "You okay there, Kaori?"

"I am ok now," Kaori said, walking a step behind him.

Making sure she was fine, Hajime looked forward and kept an eye out for traps.

"Say, Hajime. That illusion just now, basically, that king destroyed the peace, right?" Kaori asked, confirming what she saw.

"Yeah, that's how it seemed, but did you feel anything strange about it?" Hajime asked, wondering if he had missed something.

"I will not say it's magic or anything. When he was on the stage and giving that speech about peace, everyone looked at him with reverence and trust, or at least until his speech did a 180."

"I just don't understand if he really hated the demons and demi-humans in secret that much. They would not have seen him in that light. Isn't that strange?"

Hajime listened to her and somewhat agreed.

"I think before that banquet, something must have happened to him, which turned him like this," Kaori said in an unsure tone.

"Anyway, I bet it has something to do with that damn god," Hajime says in annoyance.

Suddenly, Hajime's senses pick up something heading towards Kaori; he immediately moves, gets in front of her, and grabs it.

"A thread?" Hajime pulled it, activating a trap.

In response to that, from the left side of the wall, a large number of arrows were shot at them.

"Tsk, a pesky trap." Hajime noticed the arrows and released a wave of his mana, blowing the arrows away. Following that, a large gust of wind started to blow.

"Hajime, what's going on?" Kaori was panicking in this storm of wind, and her balance was slipping.

"Another trap, Kaori; give me your hand." Hajime, seeing how fast the wind was, tried to get hold of her. But before that could happen, the strong wind blew her away.

"Kaori! Damn it!"

The wind stopped, and Hajime immediately tried to follow after her, only to be stopped by another illusion of a small army.

"Tch, get out of my way." Hajime pulled out Donner and Schlag.

DOPANn!

DOPANn!

DOPANn!

With each of his bullets, Hajime took out all the illusions.

"Kaori, where are you?!" Hajime headed deeper, where Kaori was taken away.

"Hajime, I am here," Suddenly, he heard her voice from one of the rooms.

"Kaori?"

"I am here," Kaori's voice came from the door on his left.

Hajime immediately kicked and tore the door down and saw that Kaori was lying on the floor.

"You ok there?" Hajime used his demon eye to scan for any wounds.

"Hajime, that was so scary, so please comfort me a little." Kaori got up and tried to get closer to Hajime, trying to hug him.

But before that could happen, Hajime pointed Donner at her.

Kaori looked confused and, hiding a bit of panic, said, "Hajime, what are you doing?"

Hajime stared at her coldly. "What am I doing? Isn't that obvious? Shooting down my enemy, of course."

DOPANn!

Hajime hit her with a mana bullet, sending her tumbling to the ground, as a rusty knife fell out of her robe.

"Kyaa!!"

"Ha-hajime, why are you doing this?" Kaori looked at him in shock and disbelief.

In response to her begging, Hajime's eyes turned even colder. "Silence, do you think I am stupid? Do you really believe I can't see through your act?"

"I can see right through you. You damn piece of trash lurking under Kaori's skin," Hajime points Donner at her.

The ghost in Kaori, seeing that she was seen through, broke into laughter, "Fuh, fufufufufu…"

"Hah… And here I thought it would be easy using this body." Kaori's expression turned sinister.

"Even if you know that, there's nothing that you can do; this girl's body already belongs to me."

DOPANn!

DOPANn!

DOPANn!

Hajime fired three consecutive shots at the stomach, chest, and head.

"Gahak!"

The ghost feels the mana bullets and writhes in pain.

The ghost stared at Hajime with venom. "Are you insane? Don't you care about what happened to this girl!? This is her body."

"Silence!" Hajime's eyes turned even colder as he pushed Kaori to the ground.

"As a parasite, you care a lot about that body, don't you?" Hajime pointed Donner at the ghost's forehead.

"These are mana bullets; they will not hurt Kaori's physical body. The only one feeling the pain is you."

"Huh? You are stupid. Do you even know what the consequence of that is? If you force me out like that, I will break this girl's soul. Are you sure you will be okay with that?" The ghost, feeling angry and scared of Hajime, decides to threaten him.

Hearing that, Hajime's patience broke, releasing his bloodlust and aura; his dark red aura, combining with his bloodlust, took on a reddish-purple tone.

"You've got some nerve to use my dear person to threaten me. Very well, I won't force you out of her body. Then doesn't it also mean as long as I don't force you out, Kaori will be fine, right?" Hajime's bloody aura started to rage, and his surroundings started to shake, making him look like a monster straight out of the abyss.

"So, I just need to beat you in a way where you yourself will be forced to leave. Even if that fails, I'm sure my friend can suggest a good way, and even if that also fails, I am sure one of the labyrinths holds a power that will surely help me out. And when that happens…"

"I will capture you. I will make sure you regret threatening me with someone precious to me. I will make sure you won't die. You will beg for death, beg for the sweet release, but you won't get that."

"Even if you go insane, I will fix you back up and torture you all over again."

The ghost, hearing that, had paled and started to shake uncontrollably, unable to say anything; only tears and grunts came out.

Hajime again pointed Donner on her forehead.

"Eek!"

"Hey, don't be so scared. You won't die. I won't let you die. You had messed with someone important to me. Death is too good for you. You are my enemy. Now prepare to face the consequences."

The ghost, never in her existence, would have thought she would face a day when she wished she were dead. But now facing this monstrous, crazy man, she really wished she were.

[Please, someone save meeee! I don't want to live anymore.] The ghost screamed in her heart. At this moment, the ghost just wanted to get out of here. For that, she was ready to forget her grudge and pass on.

Luckily, someone was listening to her prayer and decided to grant her wish.

"It's ok, don't worry, I will properly send you off."

The ghost, hearing that motherly voice, for some reason, felt safe.

Kaori's body was enveloped in a green magic aura. Then, from her chest, a white orb flew out and easily phased through the ceiling.

Hajime observed the whole scene play out with his demon eye and saw the ghost flying upwards. For a second, he thought about firing a bullet but decided not to because of Kaori.

Kaori opened her eyes, and the first thing that came to her eyes was Hajime.

"Hey, Hajime, can you get a little closer?"

Hajime did what she asked and got closer.

Kaori, seeing his face a few centimetres away, closed the distance herself and pecked him on the lips.

"What are you doing?" Hajime asked.

"Nothing, it's just a confirmation to myself that I love you, and I want to stay with you forever," Kaori said, looking at Hajime with a loving gaze.

"Even though you know my heart belongs to Yue," Hajime reminds her.

"Even then, I will carve my own place in your heart, and you will not be able to stop me."

Hajime sighed, hearing that, "Then there is nothing I can do about it."

"Yep," Kaori giggled.

"We should get going; others are waiting for us," Hajime said, getting up.

"Ah, about that, can you carry me?" she asked.

"My feet are a little wobbly, and I can't stand."

Hajime, hearing that, picked her up in a princess carry, making her blush and happily snuggle into him.

"Hey, Hajime, can you say that one more time?" Kaori whispered.

"Say what?" He acted like he didn't understand.

"You know that, what you angrily said about me to that ghost," Kaori tried to remind her.

"Hmmm… nope, can't recall it at all; I guess I have forgotten," Hajime claimed.

"Geez! Why can't you let me have this one, you bully?"
