The world itself seemed to slow down at the impending turn things were about to take. The wind, the dust, even the bit of water vapor that gathered above and condensed into thin, sparsely populated clouds.

While the world had seemed to freeze earlier, that had simply been an impression due to the tension of the coming danger whose pressure in the sky had almost turned tangible. But this time, the world really, literally, froze.
