Chapter 791 - Chapter 791. Political Maneuver. Seizing Partial Control.

The arrival of the envoys didn't change much, if anything, of what Liu Shu had planned. In truth, they were mostly inconsequential in her plans. At most, these envoys would serve as the "hold on and see" factor that would block any aggression from the Covenant's part.

Of course, to ensure they did their part properly, she had already planned to gradually show her uniqueness and have good conversations with them. Today was such a day.

It had been around a week and a half since they arrived, and now, the Verdant Elder and quite a few other top-tier envoys had gathered in a large conference room within a .

The room was able to house over 200 people easily, so the 150-odd people present didn't make it feel crowded in the slightest. Moreover, among these people, those who would actively participate in the conversation numbered at most around 10.

To summarize, there was no one uncomfortable with the venue as everyone took their seats and prepared to discuss important matters.

Liu Shu was participating with her Avatar this time around, sitting at the forefront of the Golden Sap Empire's group. To her left and right, Flor and Seraphina sat silently.

The reason to seat these two closest was that each represented a strong authority. Flor, there was nothing to explain, as she was the de facto leader of the Golden Sap Empire right after Liu Shu.

Meanwhile, Liu Shu's intent to sit Seraphina to her right was to show the Covenant envoys that some of their people had defected to her side and were siding with her. After all, unlike Obsidianis, who had a reason—Veyra's presence during the attack—Seraphina had been a righteous and strongly involved young talent.

If she could convince Seraphina to side with her, there should be something for them to take into account.

"I am glad you made some time to join us for today's first formal and in-depth discussion, Lord Verdant Elder."

Liu Shu started with some basic courtesy, and the Verdant Elder answered in kind. "It is no problem in the slightest. After living in the Golden Sap City for a short time, I had quite a few matters I intended to discuss with Lady Heavenly Willow."

Liu Shu nodded with an understanding expression, and she smiled gently. "Since that's the case, let's change our address to not be so stiff. How about you refer to me as Lady Liu Shu? And if I may, what is Lord Verdant Elder's name?"

The Verdant Elder shook his head. "In our church, when one reaches the level of Verdant Elder, they discard their name and become a Verdant Elder by name. So, calling me Lord Verdant Elder is neither incorrect nor rude."

Liu Shu was a bit confused, but she didn't dig into this peculiarity. Instead, she nodded. "I understand, Lord Verdant Elder. In that case, let's start with what intent Lord Verdant Elder and the other esteemed envoys had come to propose or suggest to our Golden Sap Empire."

"Gladly." The Verdant Elder started. "First, we want to give a formal explanation to our Verdant Sanctity Covenant's actions. As you might know, the war between the Nexus and us has escalated into a full-scale conflict. The entirety of the Star System has raised arms, called allies, and is fighting the scourge of the Abyssal Void Nexus Empire."

Liu Shu nodded. "I am aware. It must be a difficult battle."

The Verdant Elder sighed and nodded. "That's indeed the case. So, when we realized that Rhazor, one of the Nexus's ace generals, had diverted its gaze from the main battlefield, the Verdant Sanctity Covenant saw an opportunity. While it does not sound good or even proper, I will be blunt. Strategically, sacrificing this flank to take advantage of Rhazor's absence was a sound and thoroughly thought-out plan. Here are the results of that choice."

Naturally, the Verdant Elder and the other envoys had not come without a plan. The group they were trying to speak with was an abandoned pawn. Someone they chose to sacrifice. To expect any goodwill at all without resentment from such a party was straight up idealistic and naive.

Therefore, the Covenant gave the Verdant Elder positive battle results to show off and attributed them to Rhazor's absence. Whether they were true or not, only the top of the Covenant would know.

Liu Shu asked. "Are these copies for me?"

The Verdant Elder was a bit confused, but he nodded. "Yes, you can store them away if you please, Lady Liu Shu."

Liu Shu smiled, and one of her roots moved down from the ceiling. The envoys tensed up when they saw the gorgeous and sleek root with blue-glowing veins. Then, to their stupefaction, the root actually divided into four sections, spreading out like a mouth, and swallowed the report.

Liu Shu closed her eyes for a second, and the information in the reports flashed in her mind like a document being uploaded to a computer. Soon, she had absorbed and understood the information.

"I see. These reports do indeed indicate some correlation between Rhazor and the resolution of these conflicts."

Meanwhile, the Covenant people were currently stiff, not really understanding what was happening. The Verdant Elder, while he maintained a perfectly calm facade, was sweating coldly. He smiled, hiding his tumultuous heart, and asked. "Pardon my ignorance, Lady Liu Shu. Why have you… swallowed the reports?"

He wanted to find a more refined verb to explain what he had just seen, but the scene had been so shocking that he blurted out things quite crudely.

Liu Shu blinked and smiled. "A small skill I have. Nothing too important."

By her side, Seraphina and Obsidianis had their eyes slightly locked onto the root that split and revealed a relatively moist and soft interior. Their minds involuntarily went to another word, barely restraining themselves from becoming aroused.

While everyone was shocked, Liu Shu made a calling gesture with her hand, and quite a few roots descended, all of them spitting out a copy of the reports to her people.

This ability left the Covenant envoys heavy-hearted. No one present was stupid, so the implications of Liu Shu being able to "eat" knowledge and immediately print it were just… ridiculous.

The Verdant Elder took a secret deep breath to calm his heart. 'What kind of skill could allow for such a thing? Is it a ? Does it consume ternary essence? If it is a , or worse, a ...'  </p><p>His heart chilled.  </p><p>Liu Shu, having taken over the initiative by perfectly absorbing and comprehending the information that was meant to be talked about for a few hours, spoke to them with a smile. "While I do agree that the gains are substantial, I do have another proposal I have compiled with my limited knowledge. Please, take a look."  </p><p>After Liu Shu took over some of the World-Types, she naturally accessed their databases and plans. Rhazor was an organized and powerful general, someone who gave Liu Shu trouble even with Liu Shu's endless advantages when fighting a defensive battle.  </p><p>Rhazor basically attacked a heavily fortified fortress and was able to put a challenge to the defenses to the point of seeing their limits. Without Xakira holding the front, Liu Shu could only imagine the damage Rhazor would've caused before taking him down.  </p><p>So, Liu Shu looked deeply into Rhazor's plans. The only large unknown in his plans was, surprisingly, Liu Shu herself. The plan was that, after taking over Ceperet and using it as a temporary headquarters, Rhazor would basically sweep over this flank of the Covenant, swallowing at least 10 Solar Systems in less than 20 years.  </p><p>The plans were detailed, and after Liu Shu looked at them, she couldn't find anything to disagree with Rhazor's analysis.  </p><p>The Verdant Elder and the other main Covenant envoys received Liu Shu's report, which she created after deeply analyzing Rhazor's tactics and discussing them with Cael, Xakira, and her other generals.  </p><p>While they read, Liu Shu commented. "As you can see, Rhazor's army had been a powerful one. Not a hastily assembled one. He had powerful Star Lords under him, like Lord Altherion and many others. Moreover, his army had several hundred Level 199 that could've broken through with enough battle experience and become new <Second Ascension> powerhouses." </p><p>Liu Shu's words were not exaggerations. If Rhazor had won against her and killed her entire army, Rhazor's army would've lost many but, at the same time, gained a bunch of top-tier elite forces that would strengthen his power. Not to mention, Rhazor's own level would've increased rapidly. After all, a True World Tree's death gave tremendous amounts of Experience Points.  </p><p>While the envoys read her report, Liu Shu spoke, ignoring their changing expressions. "So, while I do admit that the Covenant winning five Solar Systems on the front line thanks to the Rhazor's absence is quite… admirable, I believe that if Rhazor had not been stopped by me, things would not have looked positive for the Verdant Sanctity Covenant."  </p><p>Basically, Liu Shu was telling them that they had been stupidly lucky that she existed and held this frontline, like a blind cat bumping into a dead rat. While there was not a single derogatory or mocking word in Liu Shu's speech, every single envoy that read her report felt as if Liu Shu's root had whipped their faces, leaving a red mark.  </p><p>The Verdant Elder placed the report back down and smiled. "It is indeed our luck to have Lady Heavenly Willow hold Rhazor from fulfilling the terrifying vision you presented. Your analysis is thorough, Lady Liu Shu. The Covenant does not deny the danger Rhazor represented. However, hindsight naturally sharpens all strategic evaluations. After all, Rhazor completely misjudged your strength and perished here."  </p><p>It was shameless, but the Verdant Elder could not do anything else but drag Liu Shu's reports and achievements down by force and faulty logic. Otherwise, the Covenant and the Golden Sap Empire would be in a debtor and creditor relationship, and the one holding the reins would not be the Covenant.  </p><p>The Verdant Elder could not allow such a thing to happen. So, his mission was to make Liu Shu's achievements sound less impressive than they were. And his wording actually softened Liu Shu's attack.  </p><p>Liu Shu, however, smiled.  </p><p>That smile made the Verdant Elder and the rest feel as if they were prey who had finally taken the bait dangling in front of their eyes.  </p><p>"Lord Verdant Elder is right. How could we ever trust the judgment of the defeated?"  </p><p>Admitting that here lowered Liu Shu's standing, but the cost of that was that the Covenant needed to bury Liu Shu's report. What was needed for such a thing to happen? The Verdant Elder felt as if Liu Shu's root had suddenly coiled around his throat. The answer to that question was… obedience to a certain extent.  </p><p>From the start of the conversation, Liu Shu had never been aiming at merits nor military accomplishments. What she wanted was for all these envoys to feel the shadow of her canopy, and each time they wanted to rebel, for them to look up and see her vast branches above them.  </p><p>While the conversation would continue from now on, Liu Shu now held a terrifying advantage that could buy her some forced loyalty. After all, if Liu Shu sent the current report to the main branch of the Covenant, those above would become incredibly displeased with the Verdant Elder and all the envoys that arrived.  </p><p>In summary, Liu Shu rapidly and almost effortlessly took control of what she wanted. Still, this was a small win in a long-drawn war. She seized the initiative, but her grip was not perfect yet. </p></div></main></div></div><div class="Chapter_pagination__7wErL"><button class="nu_btn Chapter_btn__03Cz2 Chapter_prev__Ykt4T But in Rudra's existence, one thing has remained constant: a person. In her tears and rage. In her love and hatred. Now, Rudra is determined to figure out why she was the only one who mourned his death while the rest of the world celebrated his demise—especially since they had always stood on opposite sides of the war. And her answer might be the one thing he holds most dear—the only truth that remains truly sacred.\n\nIn the kingdom of Partha, power does not negotiate. It descends from the mountain, absolute and ancient, in the form of Ravaan Azhdar — the Dragon King — and his son, Prince Rudra, who inherits his father's fire and none of his patience.\n\nIn his first life, Rudra did what dragons do. He wanted the Saintess of Benevia and he took her — flew across half the known world and carried Teresa Williams out of her country like a thing claimed, imprisoning her in the cursed land of Alaka for months while the kingdoms of men scrambled to respond. He was not cruel to her, exactly. He simply did not think of her as something that required particular consideration. She was leverage. She was a statement. She was, in the particular arithmetic of dragon politics, a piece on a board.\n\nHe did not expect Percival Leonhart.\n\nThe hero came through Alaka the way heroes do — through impossible odds and worse terrain, carrying the legendary sword of Mamon, and he killed Rudra with it. Not cleanly. Not quickly. But definitively. Rudra lay dying in the ruins of everything he had built, alone, which was no more than he deserved and he knew it, and he waited for the end with the specific resignation of a creature who has no remorse, no regret whatsoever.\n\nThen Tish appeared.\n\nNot rescued, not triumphant, not standing over him with justified contempt. She appeared the way she always moved through the world — quietly, purposefully, and in this case with her hands already reaching for him, her holy magic already trying to knit shut wounds that had no business being knittable. She was crying. She was afraid. And she was, against every law of sense and self-preservation, trying to save the dragon who had taken her from her home\n\nHe didn't understand it. He asked her why, once, in the way a dying thing asks questions — without real expectation of an answer. She didn't explain. She kept healing. And then an arrow found her, from somewhere in the dark, and she died in front of him before he could — before he could what, exactly, he would spend a great deal of time not finishing that thought.\n\nThen Rudra woke up in his bed in Ashkavar. Three years before any of it happened.\n\nHe lay there for a long time. Long enough for the disorientation to pass and the facts to arrange themselves into something he could examine. He had been given time back, though by what mechanism or mercy he couldn't say. The world was reset. Tish was alive somewhere in Benevia, being saintly and blessed and entirely unaware of everything that hadn't happened yet.\n\nHe did not love her. He wants to be clear about that, if only to himself. He had barely known her in the first life, and what he had known he hadn't particularly liked — she was stubborn and principled and had an infuriating tendency to keep extending grace to things that hadn't earned it, chief among them apparently him. He did not miss her. He missed the answer she hadn't given him. He missed the specific shape of a question that had no other possible source of resolution.\n\nWhy had she tried to save him.\n\nAnd for that answer, he was determined to burn everything down all over again.\n\n(I will be posting this story on RoyalRoad.com )","pvNum":35000,"bookType":0,"checkLevel":15,"categoryType":5,"categoryId":70002,"categoryName":"Fantasy","coverId":1782658546479,"chapterCnt":62,"firstChapterId":"94759309266703292","lastChapterId":"99589401570496614","lastChapterName":"In Need of A Healer","lastChapterTime":1791133599000},{"bookId":"35614365300311905","bookName":"Kill The Old Ones!","authorName":"Hateful_Fellow","authorId":"14640405306036701","description":"I never believed that there is an 'afterlife'.\n\nSimilarly, I also never believed that reincarnation, rebirth, transmigration, or any other bullcrap related to it, were real either.\n\nI died as a loser, and that's my choice...well, not really, but I was never really the guy who aimed high, I just accepted whatever's thrown my way and made do with it. Loosely based on the bones of Dungeons \u0026 Dragons, this is not a tale of shining knights; it is a chronicle of the broken, the stitched, and the profoundly unstable plundering their way through a world that should have known better than to let them meet.\n\n\nNokera The Typhoon of the Open Seas\n\nIf the ocean had a nightmare, it would wear Nokera’s face. A pirate captain whose reputation for cruelty is only outmatched by her navigational genius, she is the true danger of the waves. Nokera doesn't just sail the seas; she subjugates them. With a cutlass that has tasted the salt of a thousand hulls and a gaze that can turn a mutiny into a prayer for mercy, she is the iron fist holding this band of misfits together—mostly so she has someone to help her carry the gold.\n\nDravenya The Mistress of the Dark\n\nShadows don’t just follow Dravenya; they obey her. A sorceress of lethal refinement and abyssal power, she moves with a lethal elegance that suggests she’s already decided exactly how you’re going to expire. While the others bring the noise, Dravenya brings the silence—the cold, crushing weight of the void that leaves her enemies as nothing more than footnotes in her grimoire.\n\nZadok \u0026 Sally The Holy Roller and the Headache \n\nZadok is a 7’7” mountain of a man, a Cleric of the Light who is unfortunately terrified of his own shadow—and for good reason. Living inside his head is Sally, a spectral stowaway with a tongue like a razor and a sense of humor that borders on the sociopathic. While Zadok is busy hyperventilating over a \"spooky\" breeze, Sally is busy taunting him, whispering vivid descriptions of his impending doom or suggesting he use his massive mace to \"accidentally\" flatten a tavern. They are the heart, the soul, and the absolute mental breakdown of the party.\n\nKaelia The Stitched Titan\n\nA towering, seven-foot masterpiece of surgical blasphemy and lightning-driven spite. Kaelia is a forensic architect’s dream and a pacifist’s worst nightmare. Her past is a labyrinth of cold tables, ozone, and secrets shrouded in the \"3-7-8\" prisoner code etched into her mind. With one hazel eye dreaming of aesthetics and one glowing Tabaxi eye mapping your jugular, she views the world as a half-finished workshop. She doesn't fight; she performs a dismantling reality with a blunt, sardonic indifference that leaves her wondering if your liver would make a better footstool than a conversation piece.\n\nFrom the dripping, brine-soaked piers of Luskan to the soaring, treacherous spires of Waterdeep, the crew of the Obsidian Wake will leave a trail of broken glass and bewildered guards in their wake. They will descend into the lightless depths of the Underdark, navigate the shifting sands of Anauroch, and brave the frost-bitten wastes of Icewind Dale.\n\nWhether they are infiltrating a Tiefling’s gruesome laboratory or accidentally triggering ancient traps in a forgotten dragon’s hoard, one thing is certain: there will be blood, there will be treasure, and Kaelia will definitely have something blunt to say about the quality of the wine.\n\nMaces and Miscreants: Because the only thing more dangerous than a monster is a monster with a sense of humor.","pvNum":13044,"bookType":0,"checkLevel":15,"categoryType":5,"categoryId":70002,"categoryName":"Fantasy","coverId":1773510073666,"chapterCnt":6,"firstChapterId":"94730327364270509","lastChapterId":"95121685321144258","lastChapterName":"Blood and Lace","lastChapterTime":1778264554000},{"bookId":"33919732300685505","bookName":"CRUIX","authorName":"Kapildev_Sarmah","authorId":"33928234208868501","description":"In a world where every person possesses a floating book that grants them power at a cost, Arthur Kura lives an ordinary life in the city of Gruse, fascinated more by novels and philosophy than the strange system surrounding him.\nBut beneath the ordinary world lies a mystery surrounding the Cruix—the colossal book that governs every other book in existence.\nWhen Arthur becomes entangled with the Regans, a powerful organization guarding secrets far older than anyone realizes, his life begins to unravel.
