Chapter 2 - Chapter 1

THREE YEARS AGO

"Honestly, what am I gonna do with my life? I'm so tired of this fucked up world. Took both my parents and my brother and now I'm left alone in this cruel world." Emory lamented as she recalled the drastic accident that claimed the lives of her family earlier that year.

Recalling the tragedy was like a deep knife carving into her chest with no intention of killing her. She had managed to escape the tragedy but at what cost, her sanity? She had to move away from her home, the place she grew up to live in a new environment, a new city, bustling with noises that mentally disturbed her mind.

She was on the verge of becoming insane and her habits of nibbling on her nails when she was nervous made them uneven and damaged; the skin around them became sore and sometimes torn with time.

But after seeking for help from professionals, Emory's life changed for the better. She slowly managed to let go of the burden and pain she had endured and began to face life forcefully. Nevertheless, her shattered heart could not be mended. At last, her season of renewal came.

MONTHS LATER

"I feel so refreshed! I can't believe my business is celebrating its first milestone. It's been great these past months." She excitedly shared with her friend, Jessica - or Jessi, as she dearly calls her.

"I know! You've been doing great honey. I love that for you." Jessi remarked.

"When are you coming back? I've missed you. We need to celebrate."

"Don't worry. I'll be there before you know it."

Doorbell ringssss...…

Emory goes to check on her ring camera to see who it was since she wasn't expecting anyone today.

"It's delivery." The guy said after waiting for a while.

She opened the door and there stood a guy holding a big bouquet with a card on it.

"Emory Pickett, right?"

She nodded.

"Can you sign here, please?" She did and took the bouquet off him wondering who would have sent it to her.

She held the card in her hand and read its content and a tear fell down from her right eye. It was a gift from her best friend whom she was on the phone with and it pleased her heart to know how truly loved and valued she was in their relationship.

Jessica had mended her heart in ways that she had never imagined possible. From an impromptu vacation organised by her therapist to meeting this beautiful woman who forcefully gained access into her life. From thence, Jessi and Emory became close friends or sisters as they believe they are and getting to know each other more deeply as time went by. Jessi made a conscious effort to help Emory overcome her fears and someway somehow, she ended up healing her heart. Without much thought, Emory began to feel safe wherever she went and did not distaste the idea of meeting new people and with having the right networking partners her business began to flourish.
