Nathanael's pov:
I settle my phone back down on my desk after the fifth attempt at reaching Accalia goes straight to voicemail.
No amount of inhaling or sighing will shake this crushing weight off my shoulders, will it?
Once again, I'll just need to go through the day clutching at my own stomach, hoping against all hope that no more devastating news reach my ears.
Seated in the chair facing the desk, Avery stares at me, barely blinking which gets on my last nerves.
"Is something the matter, Avery?" I try my best to keep my voice on the calmer side in order not to frighten him.
In response, he finally blinks, "No, sir," she shakes his little head.
"Is something the matter with me then?" I ask.
"You seem… Intense, sir," he nods.
"Lovely," mumbling under my breath, my right hand reaches up for my fingers to clench around the bridge of my nose.
Although, I immediately straighten up in preparation to receive the individual heading our way.
