Nathanael's pov:
Ava never once as much as grazed me, let alone land a clean punch or kick. By the time we were done, the two of us were drenched in our own sweat.
I expected her to complain a lot more, but after the first failed attack she'd opened with, her traits had hardened, pushing every other emotion aside, leaving but clear determination in sight.
Admittedly, I've gotten a bit rusty too considering my last training session goes back to when we still lived in Eldersville. In other words, more than two months ago. This one was like no other. The joy and motivation that have washed over me from the very start rivaled none I've ever experienced when fighting before.
"Here," Ava extends a bottle of water my way.
"Thank you," I take it with a smile, "You did really well,"
"Why do you say it like that?" eyebrows furrowed, she crosses her arms over her chest.
"Like what?"
"Like you expected me to do a lot worse than I did,"
