Actually, this Taoist could have escaped on his own. Although Han Dongchen was a soldier and quite skilled, those outside the secular world naturally have their means of preserving life. A sudden grab was indeed of little consequence to him. However, the elder Taoist understood better that he and Han Dongchen were bound by fate. Otherwise, they wouldn't have encountered each other repeatedly. As practitioners of cultivation, having karmic ties meant a resolution was needed, and so, he could not leave.
At this moment, he envied his junior brother, who could ascend early to heaven by helping the great benefactor Su Xiaowan. As for him, whether he could ascend depended on the will of the heavens. A single misstep, and perhaps a lifetime of merit would be wasted.
