Lost in thought, Xiaosuisui unknowingly followed the little beggar boy until they arrived before the Grand Hall.
The little beggar mumbled his familiar chant, "Oh great Buddha, you are full of mercy and compassion. Surely, you would not withhold these few coins offered as oil for your lamps? I have my own troubles, forced by circumstances, to turn to you for alms. You are magnanimous, your Buddhist Dharma is profound and infinite. You won't blame me, will you? The alms I solicit are for the purpose of helping people and saving lives; can't you just turn a blind eye and let it pass? I am kowtowing to you!"
After speaking, the little beggar boy kowtowed to the Buddha statue before him, then snatched several handfuls of coins from the donation box meant for lamp oil. He called this "seeking alms from the Buddha."
