Chapter 48 - No. 1 Versus The Champion (Part 2)

"After that encounter, only 179 contestants remain!"

The crowd was loosing it. They were protected by an invisible (visible when hit) forcefield from stray energy releases. Some shouted in anger because of bet losses. Others cheered. It was all interesting.

But most of the crowd was focusing on a particular fight between two boys enveloped in energy, purple and green.

Hito and Renji went in for each other. Renji went for his throat, but Hito ducked and went for his belly. He got it, but at the cost of Renji slamming his fists on his back hard. They both staggered briefly.

Hito coated his right hand in purple. And went for Renji's left ear. Renji blocked it, but it was a smart feint attack, as the real one landed on his side, shifting his balance.

But Renji used that balance shift to perform a cartwheel and jump back. Then ran towards Hito and then gave an unexpected dropkick. Hito was pushed back, but as he tried to move forward, he was unaware that Renji used his landing from the dropkick to spin on his hand, and so, his face met two spinning kicks before Renji performed a backflip. As Hito was recovering, he aimed his hand like a gun, and a small green bal of energy appeared.

Hito was met with a rain of green energy pellets as he tried to block.

"Enough!"

Hito's energy exploded outwards, obliterating the pellets, them he dashed forward, stunning Renji and delivering a direct punch to his face with all his might.

Renji's energy around him disappeared while he flew back a little and landed on the floor. Then he got up and brought up his energy again.

---

Kaito had just finished eliminating someone. The opponents he had faced so far weren't all top tough. He only had to use energy for one of them, and he almost lost, because of the weird technique they used.

Right now, he was walking somewhere in the arena. He had spotted a light blue dome somewhere earlier. He had seen people go there, give two strikes to break it, and leave impatiently. Some ignored it. But he had a feeling that if he wanted a challenge, he could go there. So that's what he did.

He finally reached it and looked at it. He sensed a faint energy inside. So he decided to give it a punch. It didn't really do anything. He gave another. Then another. He kept giving punches, each slowly rattling the dome.

He reasoned that at that rate, it won't take him anywhere. So he decided to gather a lot of energy in his hand.

He built white energy in his fist, slightly large, condensed it, and then delivered it to the dome with all his might.

'Bingo'

It worked.

---

Silence.

That was all Tokira wanted. He had been learning to control his energy for a long time and use it in other ways. One of the ways was to create a barrier.

He was inside one of such barriers, and surprisingly, no one bothered him after two failed tries of opening it.

He had used a lot of energy to make it strong, and he had recovered most of the energy. He couldn't see through it, but sensed when someone came.

That was why he was aware when he heard footsteps coming towards him. He wasn't bothered.

The person tried once. Twice. Thrice.

'That's strange...'

Another hit, stronger. It was strong enough to shake it. Tokira stood up, alert. That was when he heard nothing again. But he because very weary, because he felt a lot of energy rising outside, before—

*Crack!*

The barrier shattered, leaving behind a white haired boy with white energy in his fists.

---

"There you are," Kaito sized Tokira up.

"Can't someone have some peace?" Tokira slightly frowned.

"Oi, calm down, I just want a duel. I have a feeling you're strong, so let's fight."

"Okay."

That was all Kaito heard before seeing black briefly, so he jumped back, holding his face.

"That's not fair, bro. You didn't even—"

Tokira rushed in, not giving him a chance to talk.

But Kaito deflected his palm strike.

"That's it!"

He tried to elbow Tokira's hand, but Tokira spinner and went to Kaito's back, giving a punch. But Kaito ducked and flipped Tokira over to his front.

Tokira landed on his feet, and then jumped back.

---

Renji brought up his energy and then dashed towards Hito with a strong punch. Hito met the punch, but Renji controlled himself to slip away, sweeping Hito's legs in the process. As Hito was landing on the ground, Renji planned to give some sort of ground single leg dropkick, but Hito bounced off his hand mid-fall, landing on Renji's stomach. He then stepped on it, but Renji jumped off his back to get up, throwing Hito off balance.

The both of them regained their footing and looked at each other.

"You really deserve your no. 1 slip. I'm not gonna lie."

"I told you so. You're not bad for the champion, either."

"Just 'not bad'? You've gotta be kidding me! Let me increase your opinion!"

Renji coated his hands in green and rushed in. He had removed the energy surrounding him, by that time.

Hito fired out small energy balls. Renji punched them all as he ran. Then he unexpectedly boosted forward faster than before, catching Hito off guard.

What made it was was that he feinted a punch, which Hito used his last balance to block, only to be met with a kick to his side. Then the punch came. The combination stunned Hito as he staggered back.

Renji then formed a ball of energy and blasted it to Hito. It hit his stomach, throwing him 10 metres away.

Hito slowly stood up. He looked at the stands, where Sensei was. Then he breathed in and out. The energy surrounding him disappeared.

He brought his arms in a way that his bicep formed a right angle with his body. His forearms slanted down diagonally. Then he opened his palms.

Whitish blue balls formed in them.

'That's not the colour of his energy,' Renji thought, 'it's an energy attack beam.'

"So that's how it is," Renji said, "let me showcase mine, too."

Renji crossed his arms and as he was opening them, a pale pink big ball formed.

At the same time, Hito joined his palms together, as the bluish white became larger.

Standing opposite each other, they released beams, which clashed in the middle.

They both pushed, none winning the clash.

Then Hito shouted and pushed, causing his beam to overwhelm that of Renji.

Renji surrounded himself with energy making him stronger, so his beam started to push Hito's back. So Hito did the same, and the beams stayed equal.

They kept pushing, the beams kept going back and forth in the fight for overwhelming each other.

Then Renji closed his eyes, and then let out a grunt. Soon, his beam started pushing back Hito's. No matter what Hito did, he was loosing out. As Renji's beam was about to overwhelm him, he jumped up, dodging it.

He was mid-air, with no control. Renji smiled. Hito figured it out.

Renji blasted a ball towards Hito. Hito couldn't dodge mid-air. So, it hit him, taking him with it out of the arena.
