Chapter 9 - Chapter Nine

Marlon was pacing around the room frantically like a mad man with both hands held behind his back. The royal ball was a gathering where Nobles from different towns came together to mingle and also learn information based on some certain things- more like gossip. So when George said commoners were attending, they were all confused.

"Why is it so shocking?". George queried. "You call them dogs, you DO NOT want to associate yourselves with them but you still have them beneath you, moaning your names and abusing them".

"That is different". Marlon fired, nose flared and brows drawn together tightly, causing the skin on his temple and in between his brows to overlap and squeeze.

"How so?". George was amused. Marlon was about to say something nasty when a shaky voice interjected.

"Now, let's not fret. It's not going to be that bad". Lady Genesis spoke through clenched teeth and swallowed a bile of disgust.

George stared blankly while Autumn managed to bite down a long held laughter.

"You both haven't said a word". Marlon slapped his hand down hard on the table and glared at the two twins who refused to butt in, inconspicuously holding their hands under the table for comfort; they spoke to themselves with their eyes and nodded at the same time in sync.

"I-It's n-not l-like anything-g we s-say c-counts b-because we cannot go a-against a direct order f-from the king even t-though he has only ruled for a year". Jack the twin with a mole on his cheek choked out and held onto his brother's fingers, pressing down for comfort now that all attention was on him. George's stare was too immense that it made him whimper while his brother Jaxon had almost wet his brown pants, eyes wide like saucers.

"Now let's discuss the main reason why we're here". George waved Autumn off to stand resting on the golden stone pillar behind him while he sat forward, legs uncrossed and propped on the floor with his elbow resting on the table and his fingers intertwined while he spared everyone of them a glance, including Marlon who was standing behind an awe struck Lady Genesis. Surprised faces flashed before his eyes and he chuckled darkly and read murmuring minds that thought he called them here just to say few words. Throughout the one sided conversation that he conducted, he allowed nods and murmurs to flow through but glared and cut shut anyone who wanted to comment or object; he wasn't the King and if they had any problems, they should try settling it with the king who would gladly have their tongues hung somewhere in the castle.

"Lastly..." George concluded, bringing the meeting to an end. "His Majesty wants you all to be good dogs during the ball and not cause trouble, you all will treat Commoners as equal comrades during the ball; meaning no insults or abuse to anyone lower than you especially Commoners. Nobles, Lords and Kings from other regions, towns and kingdoms would be attending that ball". With the comparison to dogs and treating Commoners like Nobles made some hiss under their breath, afraid of the ticking time bomb seated in form of human- so they thought, while some hurled curses at the king under their breath or in their minds. The good part of this whole ordeal was that they got to strengthen their connections with Nobles from other regions and it made them think positive while Lady Genesis's eyes glittered at the mention of Kings, Lords and Nobles because that was the only thing she picked up from the whole conversation. Her top priority was to get married to a handsome someone in a very high position.

"I wonder how the king got connections so fast to invite them when he has only being known for a year". Lady Genesis whispered to Marlon, referring to the Kings, Lords and Nobles from other regions.

"True. But what surprises me is the fact that the Almighty George now takes orders from someone else". Marlon made sure his sentence was loud and clear for everyone to hear. George's eyes narrowed but that didn't stop the smile that was stuck firmly to his lips.
