Chapter 17 - 017 Shi Lei's sudden attack (Please collect, recommend)

On the second morning, Liu Banxia was practically walking on air. His face beamed with a bright smile, and he greeted anyone he met with extra enthusiasm.

DING! Daily task assigned: treat 20 patients or perform one primary operation.

Task reward: 300 experience points, 5 Honor Points.

As Liu Banxia entered the hospital, the system sent out the task notice.

Liu Banxia felt slightly relieved. These daily tasks were only triggered when he was at work, ensuring he would still get some rest.

"Well, well, someone's in high spirits! Being the one to perform surgery really makes a difference. Now, hurry up to Treatment Room Two; two beautiful ladies are waiting for you," Zhou Li, who had arrived early for work, teased.

"Teasing me again? Who are they?" Liu Banxia asked curiously.

"Go and see for yourself. I'm busy with the handover; I don't have time for your nonsense," Zhou Li said without lifting her head. This kid always knew how to stir things up.

Upon entering Treatment Room Two, Liu Banxia was delighted. "Why are you two here so early?"

"Doctor Liu, our Yanzi has been waiting for you since the crack of dawn. She's never this enthusiastic about work," Qiaoqiao said with a grin.

Wang Xiaoyan slapped her lightly. "You're unemployed; you don't get a say in this."

"Just thinking about it makes me furious!" Qiaoqiao suddenly exclaimed. "I don't know which damn idiot messed with the sauna's heater. You go to a sauna to relax, not to fiddle with the equipment! All the wiring has individual leakage protectors, but somehow, they managed to burn out several lines."

Liu Banxia froze for a moment, then tried to keep a straight face. "What happened? Qiaoqiao, are you a technician? You don't look like one."

"Her? If she were a technician, the sauna would probably have to close within a week!" Wang Xiaoyan burst out laughing.

Liu Banxia sighed inwardly. What a small world! The damn idiot they were talking about was him. The thing was, he hadn't messed with it on purpose. It hadn't been hot at all when he went in, and no one had answered when he called for help.

He'd just wanted to see if the switch was loose. Then he felt a slight tingle, then the power went out, and then he went home with the system.

Yesterday, he'd only suspected he got the system after being electrocuted, but he really couldn't be sure if that tingle was actually an electric shock. He hadn't reacted at all at the time, and then he'd just gone straight home under the emergency lights.

DING! Daily task completed (1/20)

Received 10 experience points and 10 points of wound dressing skill proficiency.

The experience points for this dressing change were pathetically low. Liu Banxia figured he was like a high-level player killing low-level mobs now, so the rewards were naturally smaller.

"Alright, your wound isn't seeping much. Come back in two days; it's healing nicely," Liu Banxia said with a smile.

"Yanzi, didn't you feel any pain? He seemed to be working on it for quite a while," Qiaoqiao asked curiously.

"Not at all. Aren't you going to have him look at your finger?" Wang Xiaoyan replied.

Qiaoqiao turned to Liu Banxia.

"I can change your bandage too. Just remove it yourself tomorrow. It isn't serious," Liu Banxia said casually.

After he finished re-bandaging Qiaoqiao's finger, Liu Banxia felt even more frustrated. This time, the system gave him nothing at all. It seemed he really had progressed a lot.

"Doctor Liu, I've been looking everywhere for you! Thank you so much."

Before Liu Banxia could respond, a man walked in from outside, thanking him profusely as soon as he saw him.

"Oh, I remember now! Brother Liu, right? How's Uncle doing? I was so busy yesterday, I didn't get a chance to go check on him," Liu Banxia said with a smile.

"Let me formally introduce myself. My name is Liu Haibing. If it weren't for you, not only would my dad have been in danger, but I would have been in serious trouble too," Liu Haibing said, handing over his business card.

"Please don't say that. It's just part of the job," Liu Banxia said with a smile, taking the card.

"Bro, I won't beat around the bush. Here's my business card; keep it safe. If you ever want to buy a house, contact me. Every time we do a project, the developers allocate a batch of houses to us. See when you have some free time, and let's grab a casual meal together?" Liu Haibing offered.

"Haha, that's hard to say. We have set start times for work but no set end times," Liu Banxia replied, laughing.

"You should also pay more attention to your health. I don't need to give you specific medical advice; what applies to Uncle Liu applies to you too. And don't worry, there will definitely be times in the future when I'll need to trouble you."

"Alright, it's a deal then! I'm going to the ward to see the old man now," Liu Haibing said before hurrying out.

"Well, well, Doctor Liu," Qiaoqiao said with a teasing smile, "Are we in your way?"

Liu Banxia shot her an irritated glance. "I offered to treat people too, why didn't you mention that?"

"Well, I can treat people too! Once the inspection is over, I'll treat everyone at the sauna; it's on me," Qiaoqiao declared generously.

"Oh, please don't. I can't afford that place. If I get hooked, I won't even have money for rent," Liu Banxia replied with a hint of helplessness.

"You're being so dramatic! It's not like you'd be paying. Unless... you're hoping for something extra? Huh? You're not really thinking of doing something extra, are you?" Qiaoqiao asked curiously.

"Oh my god, the dressing is changed. Can you please stop torturing me? Go home and rest. Let Yanzi take care of you. And be careful not to move too suddenly; you might hurt yourself," Liu Banxia said earnestly.

"HAHAHA... you're hilarious! Let's go, Yanzi. You're practically a hospital celebrity now," Wang Xiaoyan laughed so hard she was rocking back and forth.

"Hmph. 'Yanzi, Yanzi'... listen to how chummy you are with her," Qiaoqiao said, pursing her lips at Liu Banxia.

Liu Banxia didn't dare respond, fearing he'd only make things worse.

"Huh? Boss Shi, what brings you here?" Just as he was about to leave, Liu Banxia saw Shi Lei walking in.

"How did your preparations go yesterday?" Shi Lei asked with a smile.

"Of course, I had to prepare diligently. It's a first time in life, it's bound to be unforgettable, right?" Liu Banxia said with a straight face.

Shi Lei nodded in satisfaction. "Good. Then join me for an inguinal hernia surgery."

Liu Banxia shot him a reproachful glance. This is a sneak attack!

"What? You find inguinal hernia surgery uninteresting? If so, I can call someone else, no problem," Shi Lei said with a smile, seeing Liu Banxia's expression.

"For someone like me, whose sacred duty is to save lives and heal the injured, how could I possibly find any surgery uninteresting? I'm just worried my dazzling brilliance might outshine your radiant presence, Boss," Liu Banxia said, suddenly becoming very obsequious.

Shi Lei gave him a smiling glance, then, with his hands behind his back, strolled towards the inpatient department.

Changing shoes, changing clothes, scrubbing his hands—Liu Banxia eagerly stepped on the foot-pedal switch for the sink first. However, upon entering the operating room, he froze. Even with a surgical mask on, Liu Banxia could recognize Qi Wentao, who was standing by the operating table, already wearing sterile gloves.

Although it wasn't a case of 'enemies meeting with eyes blazing,' Liu Banxia still felt a strong sense of aversion. Qi Wentao also looked surprised, as if he hadn't expected Shi Lei to bring Liu Banxia in.

The surprise wasn't limited to just the two of them; everyone in the operating room felt it. News of yesterday's incident had spread throughout the hospital, and even those in the operating room had heard about it.

Even Wang Lei felt the same, wondering what Little Shi was up to today.

Ignoring everyone's stares, Shi Lei said, "Liu Banxia, verify the patient's information."

This was a serious matter; every detail had to be meticulously checked and confirmed before the operation could begin. Verifying a surgical patient's information, though tedious, was crucial to prevent errors. Any mistake could lead to grave, irreversible consequences, especially given the current tense doctor-patient relationships. Therefore, in a large hospital like this, the procedure had to be strictly followed.

After verification confirmed everything was correct, and since the patient had requested general anesthesia, Wang Lei placed a breathing mask on the patient.
