Chapter Six
His hand fell silently.
In that moment, Sofia Hamilton's heart seemed to be tightly grasped by an invisible hand, and she didn't even dare to look at him.
Not even a glance... she dared not.
She was afraid of what she might see...
Halfway through the joke, she continued with a trembling voice, "So, the patient said to the doctor, 'I can't see things far away. Do you know what the doctor did?'"
Sofia curved her lips into a smile as a sour feeling surged up, and it took her a long while to continue, "The doctor said, 'Come with me.' Then he took the patient outside, pointed at the sun with love, and asked, 'What do you see?' The patient said, 'That's the sun.' The doctor said, 'But you can see it, right? How much further do you want to see?'
She laughed at her own words, "Isn't it funny?"
Laughing, she couldn't help but turn to look at him.
But his face was as pale as paper, his eyes closed, as if showing no signs of life.
He must be asleep.
