Chapter 20- Third Event: Warm Sensations and Cold Shoulders
While Cementoss was busy repairing the broken stadium after the match, which ultimately resulted in a student with two broken arms, Izuku was taken by the robo-medic team straight to Recovery Girl's office. There, he was being tended to by a peeved-off heroine and visited by a familiar face.
"Five fractures on his right arm and seven fractures on his left, he also seems to have dislocated his right arm, and not to mention they are both swollen and he has lost sensation in them," Recovery Girl recounted all the damages, a stern look adorning her face before looking at Yagi. "He pushed himself too hard, making a fool's error, but I'm not surprised, you being his teacher," she said, sending the man a disapproving look. Yagi was taken aback by that statement.
"I understand, Recovery Girl, but…I think that Young Midoriya really acted as a hero, thinking outside the box with that attempt. Securing his place in the third round," his tone was as if he did not understand the severity of the medical officer's words.
She diverted her gaze back to her patient, bare-chested and with arms swollen, bruised, and covered in minimal wrappings. "Do not praise him for his recklessness. He needs to be more careful with his body, or else things could have been much worse. This level of damage would have needed me to insert metal rods, impacting his arms' mobility and use of them in the future," she concluded with a knowing tone.
'Would have?' Before Yagi could even respond, "IS HE OKAY?! MIDORIYA!" The door to the room opened with a bang, causing the scrawny hero to startle, coughing up blood.
"They scared the crap out of me," the hero muttered under his breath, regaining his composure. In came some of his classmates: Tsu, Iida, Uraraka, Koda, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup; the latter looking a bit peeved. Uraraka turned to politely address the skinny man. "Hello, sir," she said, giving a small smile and a wave.
They all stepped closer to the boy's bed. "Oh, Izuku! Are you okay? You had us worried there," Bubbles was the first to speak, worry laced in her voice. Koda stood behind, quiet but with a worried expression on his face.
"Yeah, Midoriya. Quite honestly, that was very foolish to act so brash," Iida sternly remarked, which made Izuku slightly flinch. "You cannot keep injuring yourself like that. Most Pro heroes won't sign a sidekick that hurts themselves and—"
"Alright, man, he gets it. You don't have to be so harsh on the guy," Kirishima spoke up.
"True, Iida, you're just rubbing salt in the wounds," Tsu bluntly commented, effectively silencing her uptight classmate.
Izuku was embarrassed but more so touched that some of his friends were here to check on him, which made him feel bad for his actions. He couldn't help but avert his eyes from the glaring stare of one of the Kayama sisters, knowing fully well the situation he brought upon himself.
"Alright, everybody out, visiting hour is over. My patient will need some intensive healing before his next match," Recovery Girl announced, wanting the students to leave.
"Are you going to perform surgery?!" Uraraka exclaimed, making a few people, namely Bubbles, worried.
Iida cut in again. "Miss Recovery Girl, surely he could not go on with the rest of the battle in this state, even with surgery?" Iida asked, dramatic and robotic in his approach. A pair of green eyes rolled at the mention of that.
"You don't need to worry your little heads, just leave me to do my work. That includes you, sir," she said, eyes landing on the skinny man, who reluctantly walked away. As they were making their way out, Yagi turned to address the last student in the room. "Miss, um, Miss, as Recovery Girl already mentioned, we must leave. So I ask—"
"That's okay, sir. She is my assistant and I will need her help to handle this work," Recovery Girl said point-blank. Yagi was spluttering but could not say anything, for fear of exposing his true authority, giving her the go-ahead to shut the door in his face.
"Some visitors get on my nerves," the elderly lady muttered under her breath. She briskly moved to the other side of her boy's bed. "Alright, let us get started. I presume that someone will come shortly to assess if this troublemaker will be able to compete or not."
"Recovery Girl, I want to say I am really sorry for wasting your time and I know what I did was foolish, but—OW!" He was cut off by a punch to his arm, by none other than Buttercup. "Yeah, it was stupid of you!" she commented with an eye roll.
Recovery Girl had a good giggle before composing herself. "Alright, that's enough, young lady. I wanted you to stay so that we may finish this quickly and he does not have to get surgery. Now focus!" Recovery Girl sternly reprimanded the raven-haired girl. Buttercup cooled her temper, just a little, and placed each of her hands on the boy's own. The latter already knew what was going to happen but still had a slight blush at the gesture.
Recovery Girl saw this but paid no mind, focusing on guiding her assistant. "Now, Buttercup. From my understanding, your other part of your quirk is that it allows you to convert your plasma energy into a different form of energy to heal the injuries of your companions."
"Yup," Buttercup responded, eyes closed.
The woman nodded. "Very well. I have mentioned to you, on more than one occasion at our lessons, that your ability is quite a rare and remarkable ability, with some people's healing ability only managing to work to a certain extent; I being one of them. That is why I want you to be careful in using your said ability in the open; a lot of very bad people are willing to do anything to acquire that specific ability," Recovery Girl cautioned, a dire tone coming out.
"Yeah, yeah, don't worry, Granny. Can I get started on him now?" Buttercup remarked, as if she did not listen.
The elderly woman just huffed. "Very well, missy. Honestly, young people these days," she sighed before saying, "Now, Buttercup, I want you to concentrate on those specific areas of the body and nothing else. I have noticed that when you activate your quirk, you tend to release more energy than needed. While I can admit, it is impressive that you do not tire yourself out so easily, I want you to concentrate on directing the flow of your powers in one direction."
Buttercup did as she said. She concentrated on the task, activating her powers, eyes alight, a greenish-yellow luminescent glow came from her hands and enveloped the swollen, injured arms of the boy beside her. To Izuku, the sensation was usually strange, comforting, and oddly tingling. The feeling was as if a heat source was covering his arms, much like a heat pad used to aid in relieving aches, pains, and muscle stiffness. The energy flowing through his arms essentially repaired the fractures, boosting his own healing factors and easing the inflammatory response that the body was carrying out.
If Buttercup was being honest, she had never really needed to use her healing abilities on a regular basis when she was home. She considered the power to heal a lame one and always thought that one of her other sisters would be a better fit for the power. Okay, there were times back when injuries were caused by accident and she was glad that she had the ability to heal; those were times when it made her realize that sometimes, force is not needed. 'Sometimes.'
In no time, the injuries sustained on the arm were greatly reduced, until there was nothing but a slight touch of redness left to deal with.
Seeing this, the elderly doctor could not help but give a small smile. "Very good, dear. You may leave the remaining work to me and sit down to rest." Buttercup did as she was told. She may not have felt tired, but was happy to sit down and relax a bit. After the youthful hero applied some medication and gave the boy a good scolding lecture about health and safety, she left the room to inform the sports committee of the dealings. This left the two teens behind.
Izuku, after getting over the initial embarrassment and shame of the lecture given, was brought out of his thoughts by a badly contained snicker. "Huh?"
"Sorry, dude, but it was kind of funny to see Granny chew you out for that," the raven-haired girl did not try to hide her smirk, which made the green-haired boy even more flushed with embarrassment.
"Calm down, Green Bean. I was just messing with you. I was impressed by your last match out there, really stuck it out to the end," Buttercup said, not losing her playful smirk.
That made the boy oddly happy, expressing it with a big smile of his own. "Thanks, Buttercup, I appreciate it, and I am impressed by your healing quirk. I knew that it can heal a wide range of injuries, but seeing it up close makes it all the more amazing."
"Yeah, especially if you're usually the patient I get to show it off on. Guess that's the lucky part of you being reckless, huh?" She said, raising an eyebrow at the guy, who looked sheepish once again. Before either of them could say another word, the door opened. In came Midnight,
"Oh, hello there, students," Midnight addressed them, eyes now on the boy. "Izuku, I just saw Recovery Girl, and she informed me that you are alright to continue the rest of the competition. Is that true?" She asked.
"Y-yes, Ms Midnight, I'm perfectly fine," Izuku said, lifting up his arms to prove his point.
She nodded. "Very well, then I suggest you finish up here and get moving. That goes for you too, Buttercup; you don't want to be late, do you?" She asked, a smile on her face. The two shook their heads no, and off Midnight went.
Buttercup eagerly stepped down and walked towards the door. "Alright, Green Bean, we better get a move on. Blossom's match is going to be next, and I don't want to miss her going up against Candy Cane Head."
"W-wait, what?" But she had already left. Izuku got off the bed, and as he was putting on his shirt, thoughts were going through his head. 'She must have meant Todoroki. I wonder how he will face off against her.'
"Better find out."
After the group was escorted out of Recovery Girl's office, they quickly disbanded, leaving the two PPGs and Koda to walk around before the red head's next match.
"Do you think that Izuku will be alright to compete in the next match?" Koda surprisingly asked. He has been getting comfortable around the girls, mostly Bubbles, as of late.
Bubbles was brought out of her thoughts and smiled. "Don't worry, Koda. Buttercup is there with Recovery Girl, and it will be fine," Bubbles replied, a gentle and reassuring smile of her own.
"Bubbles is right. Honestly, I am more worried for what Buttercup will do to Izuku after she heals him," she said, a giggle escaping her lips. Suddenly Todoroki stepped out of the corner and appeared in front of the group. His eyes stared ahead, gaze landing on the girl with a bow. The said red head caught on to his gaze and knew that a talk was not so avoidable at this point.
"I want to speak to her. Now," not a request, but nothing short of an order.
Bubbles was not liking the guy's attitude and wanted to call him out on it, but a steady hand rested on her shoulders, stopping her from doing that. "Blossom?" She looked back to see her sister was giving a serious but reassuring smile of her own.
"It's okay, Bubbles. You and Koda go back to the stadium and watch the rest of Kirishima's match. I guess I'll have a chat with Todoroki." She turned her gaze onto the boy and gave a warning, a 'don't try anything with my sister' type of warning. With that, the big lug and the blonde girl left, although the latter seemed a little reluctant, she knew that her sister would be fine. As she was moving forward, she could not help but cast a sympathetic gaze onto the boy; for which he ignored it.
When it seemed like the two were gone, Blossom gave a small but cautious smile. "Hello, Todoroki. Are you here to check on Izuku? He should be doing alright right about—"
Todoroki interrupted, "I am not here to see him."
"Oh?" Blossom said.
"Though I am glad he didn't quit. I did make a promise to beat him in this tournament, and him forfeiting will make winning much less satisfying," he said, an icy tone coming to the surface. Blossom did not like his response but wanted to give the guy the benefit of doubt.
"Look, Todoroki, I understand that you—" he interrupted again.
"You know nothing of what you saw. Besides, I didn't come here for idle chit chat," he said.
"Oh, and what would that be?" Blossom curiously asked, though she had an idea why.
Todoroki slowly began to walk forward, never faltering his gaze with the girl, "I don't know what your angle is, but if you expect a thank you, then you are sadly mistaken. We both know that you can get in trouble if he found o—"
"So you're going to tell him?" She did not wait for him to finish, neither for an answer before continuing. "Look, Todoroki, I don't want any trouble, so I will just leave you to your world." With that, she walked past the boy, barely taking five steps before a miniature ice column erupted in front of her, causing her to step back in surprise. She looked back at the boy, an annoyed expression present.
"I just came to remind you that I won't make the same mistake like last time we battled. You are just another stepping stone for me to achieve my goals, and I will not be defeated by you. So don't say I didn't warn you," he said, his tone was full on intimidating. The once annoyed look that adorned her face gave rise to irritation. Her eyes were slowly glowing pink—
"Hey, guys, what's going on?!" A familiar called out, promptly causing Blossom to take a breath and turn her head away from the bi-colored haired boy. Kirishima was walking over to them, albeit he looked worse for wear, with his track suit all ripped and singed in various parts, exposing some surface layer scrapes and bruises that looked to heal well enough with time. Seeing her classmate in that state, she was momentarily taken away from her train of thought concerning the expressionless boy behind her.
"I take it that your match is over?" The bi-colored haired asked, a bit of condescension in his speech. Kirishima, for all else, just gave his signature toothy smile, "Well, it was a tough match, I didn't think my quirk would have stood a chance against Bakugo's explosions. But hey, I lasted long enough," she said cheerfully, which made Blossom smile in acknowledgment at his positive side, but did not like the way he unintentionally tore himself down.
Todoroki just tsk'd, "Interesting way of looking at a loss. Well, I better get going if I want to win the next match." He passed by the girl, "See you on the battlefield," he remarked before leaving both redheads behind.
"Man, what's his deal? Have any clue—" He turned his head to ask the girl, but was met with a scowling Blossom, hair slightly flowing, as if a breeze passed by.
Blossom was enthralled in a swirl of emotions at that moment, but before she would let her mind wander deeper, a gentle but calloused hand rested upon her shoulders, snapping her out of her trance-like state.
"Hey, Blossom, are you okay? I hope Todoroki didn't hurt you or anything?" He asked, gesturing to the now melting ice column, a look of concern on his face. Blossom took a deep breath, "No, Kirishima, Todoroki and I were just having a sort of chat before the match and he just tried some intimidation tactics. That's all," she spoke truthfully. Kirishima seemed slightly content with that, seeing no injuries on the girl; though he wanted to ask more questions but chose to refrain for now.
"Anyway, I take it that your match was not so good?" She gently asked, hoping to divert the conversation in the other direction, which seemed to work.
He rubbed his back awkwardly, "Yeah, well, you know how Bakugo can be so intense when it comes to a battle," he said.
Blossom could not help her eye roll. "Yeah, I figured as much." But still gave him a friendly smile. "How about I escort you to Recovery Girl before I have to get ready for my second match?" She offered, which made the spiky-haired boy pause at that. "Really? I-I wouldn't want you to be late because of me. Even though that is awfully cool of you," the boy said.
Blossom gently shook her head. "It's fine. It assures me that you won't suddenly collapse on the floor, and it is my way of thanking you for helping me at USJ attack." She firmly offered.
The mention of the USJ attack made the boy slightly frown. He did not do what he did to be paid back but because he wanted to help her; isn't that what friends are for?
"Hey, Blossom, you don't need to repay me to thank me. I did what I did because it was the right thing to do. Besides, you ended up helping me in the end also; I should be the one still be thanking you." His serious tone gave way to an appreciative one, flashing a comforting smile towards the other redhead. Blossom was silent for a moment, till she gave her own smile and silently agreed as they walked towards the medical room.

-Ninth Round: Kayama Blossom vs Shoto Todoroki-
"Welcome back everyone! So to recap from the last battle! It was Izuku Midoriya vs Jurota Shishida, with the former being the victor! Now, we all so the young boy in pain, but I want to reassure you all that from the Medical report we got from Recovery Girl! Izuku Midoriya is safe to compete and move on to the next round!" Mic announced. The crowd gave a wave of cheers. "Alright, we will commence the next match shortly, so I advise that you all get to your seats!" Mic informed.
As Izuku and Buttercup found their way back to the benches, the former was bombarded with questions and concerned individuals.
"Wow! Izuku, you seem much better now!" Uraraka exclaimed.
"Yeah Izuku, Recovery Girl must have a really strong quirk. I thought those injuries would have gotten out of the competition." Mina commented.
"At least you can still compete, huh man?" Kaminari said.
"Yeah. I am thankful for the their treatment…well most of it." Izuku said, feeling the fresh warnings.
Tsu walked up to Buttercup. "Hey Buttercup, may I ask you a question?"
"She shrugged. "Sure. What's up?" She asked, genuinely interested.
"Well, Recovery Girl asked that you stay around to help with Izuku's injuries. I know that she made an announcement about you being her assistant and all, but would that be, because you have a healing quirk?" Tsu was no dummy, she intentionally lowered her voice so as to not catch the attention of other people in the row. She was mindful of how special healing quirks are.
Buttercup took a moment to think, but ultimately decided, "Yeah I do. Is that a problem?" She doesn't really have a problem with Tsu, she found her as one of the only few in the class that she found cool. That being said, she also wanted to know if she had any problem with that.
She shook her head, "Nope. Just wanted to confirm my suspicions, that's all." She said honestly.
"Alright." Yeah, she knew she couldn't trust everybody, but she could tell who was okay with her and her sisters.
And speaking of which-
"ALRIGHT EVERYONE, LET'S GIVE IT UP FOR OUR NEXT BATTLE ROUND!" Present Mic exclaimed, his enthusiasm matched by the screams of the crowd. "ALRIGHT! NOW FOR OUR EIGHT ROUND, WE HAVE THE FIERY RED HEAD OF CLASS 1-A! A LADY GIRL THAT NO STRANGER TO THE ART OF A CALM MIND, BLOSSOM KAYAMA!"
Todoroki stared across the stage as his opponent made her way up the steps, her pink eyes locked on to his, with an underlying level of cool and discipline. But behind them, there was a storm just wanting to be let out and roam. She took a deep breath and focused on her opponent
"VERSUS…A GUY WHO CAN PULL OUT A GLACIER OUT OF HIS POCKET! FROM THE HERO COURSE, SHOTO TODOROKI!"
As the crowd's cheers rang through the air, the two combatants drowned it out as they focused on each other on stage. Todoroki was sending out a cold, icy stare that Blossom did not let phase through her persona, not unless she wants things to get ugly.
"I already told you. I won't underestimate you or your little tricks this time." He calmly but firmly stated, Blossom nodded in response.
"Let's see about that." Blossom, oh so confidently stated. And Todoroki narrowed his eyes at her.
The teachers all eyed the pair on the stage beneath them with a curious eye. All Might especially was unsure how this was going to turn out. He had seen both in action through the weeks especially today, and still couldn't tell who would take it. This was a battle of power versus versatility, brute force versus technique. It was for sure a coin toss for him.
"NOW PEOPLE, LET'S SEE WHAT THESE TWO ARE MADE OF!"
The crowd's cries died down as Mic readied them for the show. Both combatants heard the call as well, bracing their bodies and readying their stances. Soon everything went silent, the only thing that could be heard was the rustling of the breeze.
"START!"
The ice burst out from Todoroki's foot across the stage straight for Blossom, she kept her focus on the incoming ice shards, and unleashed a blast of her telekinetic waves, that shattered the incoming ice shards. She wasted no time and took an offensive approach, lifting pieces of the ice debris, she launched five large pieces at the boy. Todoroki glared and formed an ice barrier in front of himself blocking it before another larger stream of ice burst out towards her. Blossom unleashed a gust of her icy breath that froze the shards mid-air before sending them hurtling back towards Todoroki. He dodged with agility, but the surprise in his eyes was evident, before he glared again.
Undeterred, Todoroki unleashed a series of ice constructs, each one more intricate than the last. Blossom unleashes another gust of her icy breath to form a pillar beneath her feet, elevating her straight in to the air, where she managed to dodge the ice constructs. Todoroki simply stomped his right foot, sending erupting ice spikes, each one getting higher and higher, until they impact in to Blossom's ice pillar, shaking the foundation. As the pillar begins to fall, she acted fast and using her ice breath, yet again, created a slide for which she skated to down safely.
'He is very skilled with those ice powers." Blossom mentally mused at the thought.
"I have to give you credit. Your actually a lot more skilled than I gave you credit for." He shot a furrowed brow at her. "But I felt like you're holding back this whole tournament."
Blossom matched his gaze. "I don't know what you mean." She raised her hands out, a pink glow covered them. The glow extended to other pieces of the large ice chunks, lifting them off the ground.
"The way you act. You seem so sure and focused, as if you think you're going to beat me." Cold coated his right hands, a chill sent out.
"You call it overconfidence, I call it discipline." With that, she flung the large ice masses. Todoroki created an ice wall that took the hits, shattering it in the end. Then he unleashed an ice ramp straight at the girl. Blossom send a blast of her telekinetic waves at the ice ramp. The attack hit, but Todoroki used the leverage to jump up and over to Blossom, she reacted quickly and dodged the incoming ice punch he struck at her spot. Todoroki stared at her, catching Blossom off guard, as a wave of ice crawled over and encased the girls' leg. She was immediately halted, giving Todoroki chance to with a makeshift ice blades coming straight at her. Thinking on her feet, she shot pink eye beams that caught Todoroki by surprise and made him retreat before he got shot.
Blossom's leg, enveloped in pink aura, broke free from her ice case. She gave a sigh of relief. She managed to remain calm.
Todoroki was slightly panting, frustrated at what had happened. 'Damn it! I was sure to have ended it. I forgot about those same eye beams she used in the battle trial.' He mentally chided himself for making an almost costly error.
"He is quick on his feet; I'll give him that…" Blossom whispered to herself.
Todoroki created an ice floor and skated towards her, unleashing columns upon columns of ice her way. She copied the move and using her ice breath, skated away from the guy. While shooting his columns with each precise laser beam.
Up in the Class 1-A section, Izuku leaned forward in his seat as he watched his friend battling Todoroki. The attacks continued back and forth against each other. Blossom using her unique powers against Todoroki's ice powers. His mind was spinning as he saw her battling, realizing just how coordinated she was. She was matching all the attacks. And when she seems to be caught off guard, she quickly recovered and countered. But he noticed something in the way she fights, like…
"She's holding back…" Bakugo growled out loud.
"What? You think so? No way." Kaminari doubted. "Don't be such a fucking idiot! You can clearly see that she is holding back." Eyes narrowed. 'What is she hiding? Is she just making fools of us?" He scowled at the audacity.
"Wow, Todoroki sure is strong…" Uraraka gripped her hair in suspense. "Come on Blossom, you got this!"
The others were watching with the same thoughts, seeing how much force was being unleashed with Todoroki's attacks. Midoriya saw how the other Kayama's were watching with different expression of their, but ultimately with the same thought. Worry.
Huffing out, Blossom took several breaths to ease her mind. The stage was littered with ice shards, debris and broken columns, from the attack her and her opponent had been using against one another. She wiped off some loose sweat from her brow and looked across the stage to Todoroki standing there, looking towards his right arm. She could see the patches of frost forming on his skin. Not only that, she noticed the slight movement he was trying to hide.
He was shivering.
Blossom had been in this world for several months, and though she read many book, there were stuff she didn't know. One thing she did know from studying with Nemuri, was that quirks had limitations. Even with training, there was only so much a body could take using their power. And the more Todoroki was using his ice, the more frost seemed to form on the left side of him. She then noticed his left was untouched… and unused. He was hurting himself by refusing to use that power. She then felt a rise of frustration seeing that.
While she stared at him, Todoroki stepped forward and took another deep breath controlling his motions, but he looked angry. "You know, its bullshit how you have done nothing but piss me off." he hissed towards her.
She furrowed her brow at the statement. "How so? I have been matching the same level of annoyance you have shown me."
"I have seen how your sisters fought. And I heard how you got your high score at the entrance exams. You have a lot of power in you. So why…" Shoto claimed as his right hand clenched in ice. "Aren't you taking this seriously and making a fool of me?"
Blossom glared. "You may be right, but it is really hypocritical of you to be saying I'm not taking this seriously, when you haven't given it all you got." Her voice rose, eyes subtly glowing pink. As she met the boy's glare.
Todoroki's heart jumped slightly, but kept his composure not showing any emotion. Before he could say anything, he watched curiously as her body was showing a pink glow. "What do you think you are doing?"
"Showing bit more seriousness." She taunted him
"What is she doing? Why is she suddenly glowing?" Jirou questioned out loud. Kirishima however, had a feeling of what that glow meant.
'Blossom…Please don't lose control.' He mentally begged.
"Buttercup, do you think?" Bubbles asked.
"Nah. She has it under control." She knew what she meant. "But for now, we watch carefully." Buttercup stated. She knew as well as Bubbles, if the situation could go out of hand, then they will act.
Shoto glared towards the red head, clenching his fist at her move, "You trying to get under my skin won't help you. This match is over now!"
Blossom stood still, her face full of determination. "You told me, you wouldn't underestimate me."
Grunting, Todoroki blew out of his mouth a small frost cloud. "I'm not. Either way, I've seen your power and know you can't stop this."
Blossom watched as a stream of ice larger than anything he used against her yet, burst forward and rushed her direction. She wanted to gauge Todoroki. She knew that something bigger is off with him, and she just needed to chip the surface. But she knew that pushing her mental scape would lead to a dangerous outcome.
She readied herself…NOW!
Yelling out, Blossom threw her glowing fist forward and struck it into the ice coming towards her. The impact shattered the ice outward, cracking back and splitting the incoming attack into hundreds of pieces. Todoroki's mouth fell open in shock from the new display. "What the hell was that?"
"WOAH! BLOSSOM JUST SURPRISED US FOLKS! SHE JUST SHATTERED THAT ATTACK OF TODOROKI'S, THAT'S A NEW ONE!" Mic yelled out in a mix of shock and excitement. His co-host widened his eyes as well to the sudden change. Nezu who coincidentally was there at the right moment, smiled. Was amazed at the action taken and the focus used.
The Class 1-A students were all in amazement as well, their eyes widened in disbelief from the match. Kirishima especially intrigued as his tail twitched. "That was so manly!" He said out loud earning a nod from Kaminari.
"Yes, that was amazing what she did and-"
"GO BLOSSOM!" Bubbles cheered her on. "Yeah red! Shatter the competition!" Buttercup also cheered.
Midoriya, wide-eyed, observed the crazy scene, his curiosity growing. Each of their powers were just so fascinating.
Even Bakugo was silent as he watched the match continue.
'So, looks like these girls are actually worth the fight. Good. Might get to put one in their place.' He sneered to himself and grabbed his chin, analysing which would be his possible opponent in the finals.
Shoto glared as his previous ice attack clattered to the ground in front of him. "You were holding back earlier, weren't you?" He accused her. Blossom stayed silent, her glow disappearing, for a few seconds before eyes reached his arm, seeing the frost creeping up his skin and even forming on his face.
"You look cold, Todoroki." With a pointed look.
Shoto's heart skipped a beat as his right side clenched to her words. He exhaled out and couldn't hide the frost coming out of his mouth.
"It seems you are using your right side too much. Wouldn't you feel better if you warmed yourself up?" She taunted him, bringing a furious glare to his face as she continued. "You are hurting yourself doing this. I know you have more in you than this ice, so why are you holding back against me?"
"What the hell are you doing?" Shoto sneered out clenching his fist.
"If you want to test your abilities and prove you're strong, then actually use the powers in your arsenal." Blossom clenched her own fist and glared back. "I have shown you that I am serious. What about you? Are you actually going to act like this, even when you supposedly want to be a hero?" She felt like a hypocrite, but saw the difference all too clearly.
"Damn you…" Shoto blood raced through his body, the words she was using sounding familiar to him. "Did my old man get to you and tell you this?"
"I don't see him on this stage, do you?" Blossom shatters the ice incoming. She however notices that the speed difference has become big. They are getting slow.
"I will win and become a hero without his power." Todoroki bitterly said, the cold now getting to him. "I will be nothing like him." Getting ready to launch another attack.
"You're right, you'll be worse." Blossom pointedly said.
On hearing that, Todoroki stopped, his blood ran cold. "What d-did you say?"
She proceeded to slowly walk forward. "You say that you will be better than Endeavor. Say what you wish about him, but he is depicted as always giving his all to save people and apprehending villains using all his potential. But you care too much about proving a point to a man that you deem you don't care about! Enough that you are willing to sacrifice innocent people's lives to prove so? That does not make you a hero! That makes you worse than him!" She stated, as she finished.
There was a heavy silence on the stage. It was only broken by the murmurs of the crowd as they await what was to happen next. Blossom took a moment to realize what she said, more out of growing frustration than malice. She needed to talk to him.
"Todoroki, I-" At that moment, all matters of talking, were off the table. The bi-coloured hair boy was now sending out jagged ice shards, each one larger than the last. "HOW DARE YOU COMPARE ME TO THAT MONSTER!" He yelled, all sense of calm lost.
Blossom was now trying to dodge spikes after spikes. She was not worried about them, but of the boy whose right side was slowly forming crystals, as his anger was getting palpable.
"Because of him, she is gone. I can't remember the last time I saw her smile, and I haven't been able to face her since…!" He looked straight at her, his eyes filled with pain and anger. "I haven't had my mother since I was a child. And it's because of him!" His right side continued to gather frost on his arm and leg but he didn't stop. His mind then pictured the image of his father watching him now, causing his hatred to rise even more. "I am and never will be anything like HIM!"
Blossom was now panting. The situation out of control. He locked eyes with the boy, before he finally said-
"GO TO HELL…" Todoroki's eyes shot open in anger.
His foot slammed back into the ground, Blossom gasping in shock as another explosion of ice burst forth, rivalling the attack used on Sero earlier, she witnessed on TV. She had no time to defend, she jumped back as she crossed her arms over her face and braced for impact. It took less than a second before she felt her body blasted back up by the force of the glacier and by then it was silent. You could see that she was suspended five feet off the ground, frozen solid.
The audience stared in shock to another mountain sized glacier formed on the stage, amazed by the power this student could unleash. He rivalled the strength of some of the upper ranked heroes, and for the second time he had ended the match in a powerful finale. But this time the one hit with the ice was fully encased inside this time, bringing a wave of concern to the victims
"BLOSSOM'S BEEN FROZEN FULLY IN ICE! SHE DOESN'T HAVE ANY AIR!" Mic shouted out to the scary situation.
"Blossom!" Kirishima yelled out in fear as he leaned over the railing.
Shoto panted on the ground with more ice over his body, his eyes widening in fear as well. He was angry, but he did not mean to encase even her face inside ice. Midnight was thinking the same thing as she hurriedly ran along the edge of the arena towards the glacier and looked to Blossom, suspended fully inside the ice. She gritted her teeth and turned back towards the one who froze her. A glare befitting an angry mother.
"Todoroki, thaw her out of there now!" She demanded.
"R-right…" Shoto panted and stood back up and hobbled over towards the glacier. He reached his left hand up to touch the ice, when he stopped in his tracks, upon what he saw. A familiar luminescent pink glow was slowly erupting within the ice prison; from Blossom's body.
"What?" Both Todoroki and Midnight stopped moving when they saw the pink glow completely cover the whole glacier.
"Buttercup…?" Bubbles looked at her sister with a nervous look.
"Oh, crud." That was all the response Buttercup had to give, for the her sister to be worried now.
At that moment, the glacier was slowly cracking. Everyone was wondering what was going on. But the cracks were spreading farther and farther out the ice. Before anyone knew it, the area that encased the red haired girl, was now opened; broken to pieces. The said girl was suspended, not in ice, but mid-air. Hair, held in a ponytail, flowing in the air; eyes and body were glowing the same vibrant bright pink.
"WOW! BLOSSOM BROKE HERSELF OUT! IS THIS IS SOMETHING NEW?!" Mic shouted out once again in amazement. He was just as shock and confused as the rest.
Midnight's mouth hung open in shock before she shook her head clear and raised her hand. " B-blossom is freed, therefore the match continues!" Though she worried for how she called the judgement like that. It would soon be seen as the wrong one.
Everyone else in the audience were left in a state of utter silence from the power displayed. The students all stared in amazement at first to the power Todoroki had, and how many things Blossom could do. But now, a sudden unease covered the air as the battle took an unexpected turn. Many of the people and heroes in the audience were finding it hard to grapple what was happening and the extent of this girls' powers.
A certain flame hero however only gripped his crossed arms tighter, the frustration inside growing to the match he was watching. "How the hell…" Endeavor mumbled out under his breath, "These damn girls won't quit."
Shoto was in disbelief as he stared at Blossom there, broken free from his most powerful ice attack. "What the hell did you do there? You couldn't move." He questioned her.
Blossom however was not talking. Todoroki, decided to just end this whole match one again. 'Whatever she did to get out must have made her tired and easy to beat.' And without missing a beat, he unleashed sharp icicles of spears , hurling them at great speed and accuracy.
"Blossom. Look out!"
Blossom did not even flinch with what she did next. A bullet like explosion gave off, such that it could rival a canon blast. Everyone didn't know what just happened. Todoroki's eyes were wide and alit with something akin to fear. His icicle spear, had completely shattered before it even reached halfway across the stage. What pinpointed something akin to her responsible for the counter attack, was Blossom's hands in the air, a flicking gesture made.
"W-what did s-she do?" You would think that Izuku was the one that spoke. His voice stuttered, barely registered in to a whisper.
The red head girl now made a swirling gesture with her hand. The glow on her hands shown brighter for what's to happen next. The enormous glacier made moments ago, now crumbed. The ice were also covered in a pink aura. The ice made their way around the stage. They spun around them, faster and faster, creating a sort of vortex effect.
Everyone was at a loss for words. This had never happened before in Sports Festival history.
Todoroki, who was stunned at what he was witnessing, quickly shook it off and started his next attack. He sent streams of jagged icicles, ice spears, various constructs in different directions, aiming to knock her off balance. All fruitless efforts. Each attack was met with a canon like strike that shattered his attack; as if they were nothing. He now realized that she was firing ice blocks from the icicle vortex, with her telekinetic abilities. So he tried to dismantle the flow, but was met with his attack broken and the vortex unaffected.
"Do you actually think that what you're doing makes you better than him?" The question caught Todoroki off guard, not expecting her to talk.
"W-what…what are you-UGH!" A shot of ice hit him. It was gentler in comparison to her other attacks, but still hurt him.
"You say you want to be a hero." Another shot was given off. "You say you are different than him?" Another one shot and hit. "I understand you are hurting, but… WHAT ABOUT ALL THOSE PEOPLE WHO YOU REFUSE TO SAVE WITH YOUR POWER IN THE END?!" He barely had a chance to think over her words. Many shots were fired off. Todoroki tried his best to defend at different angle, but it was proving hard. Blossom looked enraged, almost lost in her power. "Now to end th-" 'Blossom!' She heard a familiar voice. 'Get your head on straight, Red!'
She knew who. She quickly set eyes on her two sisters and saw the worry showing on their faces. Realization of what she was doing, washed over her mind.
"No, no! I can't lose myself again! NOT AGAIN!" The glow that radiated off her body, a burst forth; slowly dying down. She looked at her opponent, barely standing; just another victim. 'Another one.' Thinking that, she raised her hand in the air, halting the vortex, much to Todoroki's and everyone's surprise. She clenched her fist and the ice suspended in the air, quickly…evaporated?
"What the?"
"How did she?"
"Who is she?"
What came next, was another sight to behold. Blossom walked up to Todoroki. Said a few words and quietly walked off the stage. Everyone was flabbergasted at the action, but Blossom did not waver in her steps; marching towards the exit.
"Come on Bubbles!" Buttercup ordered. Bubbles was already on her feet, leaving behind their confused class, and three empty seats.
Blossom was having her mental turmoil. She acted rashly. Basically put the girls in danger out there, even when she herself had warned her sisters of the potential danger of showing off. She almost k-k…
"NO!" She broke down. Tears streaming down her face.
'Oh Blossom, face it. You're not in control as you think you are.'
'You're one forgotten breath away from tearing this whole world apart.'
'Imagine the power Blossom, what we could do with it.'
'All you have to do is...GIVE IN!'
Blossom was shaking, powers pulsating. She wanted the thoughts to stop. She wanted the pain to stop. She was so caught up in her mental turmoil that she didn't notice when she was enveloped in a sort of hug.
"Shhh. Blossom, it's okay." Gentle words managed to enter in to her ears. She managed to calm down, looking up, "G-girls?" She hesitantly asked.
The face in front was not of her sisters, but of a worried and guarding Kirishima. He tightened his hold, as if he thought she would want to break away. That was the last thing on her mind, as she buried her face in to his chest, tears still falling as she tried in vain to catch her breath. "I don't want to lose control." She wearily said, almost inaudible. But Kirishima heard it. He didn't understand it but knew she didn't need to be questioned. "It's okay. You won't." He gently said, as if he oh so sure himself. That was enough to make Blossom finally feel calm.
Across the halls, two girls were watching the whole thing, with a conflicting mixture of ease and worry.
"This shit just got crazier." The raven haired girl stated and Bubbles could not even argue.
For yeah, shit was about to get even crazier.
