Chapter 7 - Classes are back in session
Prologue
"Earlier this week, many reports and rumours have surfaced about the incident that occurred at the U.A. facility, the USJ, but only now has real information been released to the public." A reporter's voice eminates from a small television lying in a large, dirty room. The owner of the TV is looking through a stack of letters, most of which he immediately throws into the garbage can, besides one, that catches his attention.
"Appearently, a group of villains, called the 'League of Villains', attacked the facility during school hours. They were planning to kill All Might, most of the students getting caught in the middle, along with two other U.A. tea-" The TV shuts off as the man presses a button on the screen. He rips open the letter, and inspects its contents.
It has been a long time, hasn't it. I come bearing good news,
which I sadly can't tell you face to face right now. Since spring,
I've started my time as a U.A. teachers, and have taken on the
task of guiding the next generation of heroes.
Originally, I started there to mainly find a successor, but I had
found one even before I started! A quirkless boy, named Izuku Midoriya!
He proved to not only be brave, but also selfless, kind, resourceful
and heroic. He proved that despite lacking a power, he also had
the great potential to be a hero! He proved himself worthy by
risking his life in trying to help someone in need. That is why I
told him about my quirk.
But, there is another fact that I believe will interest you. I'm
sure you are aware about the USJ incident that occurred earlier
this week. If not, many villains attacked U.A. during a lecture,
putting not only my student's lives at stake, but also my fellow
teachers'. One student, named Ben Tennyson, proved himself to
not only be brave, but skilled, and powerful. He ran into danger,
without his quirk, and saved both mine, and my successor's life!
He found out about my true form, and I found myself obligated
to tell him about my injury.
I am very proud to be the one to guide, not only him and my successor,
but the many other children that had proved their bravery that day.
But it's clear I have much to learn about teaching. Soon, the day where
I must trouble you again will come soon, and I'm counting on you, once
that day comes.
-Sincerely yours, Toshinori Yagi.
"Hmm..." An elderly voice murmurs, as he chomps down at a biscuit resembling a fish. "So Toshi has found himself a successor and someone to share his secret with." He takes another bite from his pastry. "I'm sure Nighteye will find this interesting." He grins to himself, as he takes a final bite from his pastry.
Chapter 7
Classes are back in session
A few members of the U.A.'s staff are sitting around three wooden tables, placed to form an angular U. Among them is a large man, wearing a tight red spandex, with white gauntlets. His hero name, is Vlad King. Next to him, is a voluptuous woman, with a white, tight, full-body suit, with a chest-less, black, leather, leotard, decorated with red gems, over it. The rest of her costume mostly consists of leathery belts, straps and... cuffs? What in the... whatever, her name is Midnight.
Next to her is the cowboy-themed pro, Snipe, is wearing a classic gas mask, and a large, brown, cowboy hat, with the letter S ingraved in a steel plate on it. He's also wearing a white vest with tan straps holding it in place. He's also wearing a pair of tan gloves, and yellow pants. His hair is styled into dark blue dreadlocks, and finally, he's wearing a large red cape.
Next to him is Nezu and All Might, who's in his skinny form. Before the tabel is detective Tsukauchi, who's currently wearing a black suit and grey tie. He's holding a stack of papers in his hand. "Me and the police have been investigating the 'League' and its members ever since the incident, and we still haven't found any records on a man named Shigaraki with a decaying quirk, nor have we found anything on someone named Kurogiri, with a teleportation quirk. It's very likely that they are using aliases."
"Hmm... so you're telling us you don't have any info on the league's leaders?" Vlad asks with furrowed brows.
Tsukauchi shakes his head. "We do have some info on the villain titled as Rojo." He reorders his papers. "Rojo, formerly known as Joey Reed, was a villain and crook from America." Everyone, besides Nezu and All Might, raise an eyebrow at this. "She has a quirk called Techno, which allows her to control technology by touching it. The armor she wore was made out of some sort of nanotechnology, which allowed her to manipulate and reshape her armor in many different ways."
"Do you think you'll be able to track her down?" Midnight asks.
"Not likely, since there are no records of her in japan. No flight logs, no ID and no crimes, besides the attack."
"What about that massive robot? What do you know about it?" Snipe asks.
"The thing was extremely advanced, made out of some unknown material."
"Unknown?" Everyone asks simaltaniously. Tsukauchi nods.
"The only thing we do know about it, is that multiple satalites picked it up, as it entered the atmosphere."
"WHAT?!"
"It sounds impossible, but it seems that the robot is-"
"Is what? Some sort of alien?!" Snipe interupts.
"Maybe, but..."
"It's too ludacrous." Midnight says.
"What is it then?" All Might asks.
"Not sure. Maybe it was made by the league, using a quirk-based material, assuming there are more members that escaped or if some of them were kept hidden. Presuming the warp gate doesn't have a limit to his quirk, he might have teleported it into space for safe keeping?" The detective theorizes.
"But if it was sent by the league, why didn't it attack me?" Everyone turns to All Might. "The league wanted to kill me, but the robot seemed more interested in my students, specifically young Tennyson."
"Again, we're not really sure about anything. We can't even get into the robot's code and see what it was programmed for. None of our engineers has been able to get through the things firewalls. We're considering getting in contact with I-island to get one of their scientists to take a crack at figuring out what makes that thing tick."
"Mmm." Nezu hums, scratching his chin. "This seems to be quite the predicament. But I doubt the league is reckless enough to attack the school once more, now that over 95% of their forces have been captured. It will take a very long time for them to regroup, which will most likely give us the time we need to locate and capture them." Nezu says optimistically. Although, the other teachers seem doubtful, they don't say anything, besides one of them.
"I don't know..." All Might mutters, catching everyones attention. "The leader, Shigaraki was very... childish and impulsive. He was bragging and monolauging about the fact that Nomu had multiple quirks, and what they were, which is what led to me gaining the advantage in the first place." All Might cups his chin as he continues. "He was acting like a child bragging about a new toy or pet. And when I defeated the Nomu he became visibly upset, throwing a tantrum, like a child... Like he had enever been told no in his life. As if he was expecting everything to go his way... He was a man-child."
"A child with an extremely dangerous quirk!" Vlad jumps in.
"It's likely he was never given the quirk counseling most children get during middle school." Midnight adds.
"Doesn't really matter now, does it." Snipe says.
"There were over 80 members arrested that day, all of which being small time thugs. The fact that this supposed man-child was able to convince them to follow his crazy plan, and view him as a true leader... now that there are so many heroes, villain are beginning to feel pressured. That might explain why they were so quick to follow Shigaraki."
"I guess that makes sence..." Vlad says.
"Many people are looking for a cause to get behind." Snipe says.
"So what can we do to stop it?" Midnight asks.
"With the help of all of you heroes, we'll do our best to narrow our investigation, and find the perpetrators." Tsukauchi answers.
"Mmm, A man-child, huh." Nezu ponders. "I suppose this Shigaraki has a lot in common with our students. They both have so much potential, and it's very likely someone is nurturing the villain and his malice." This statement makes All Might shiver.
'I don't even want to think about what that could mean...'
Ben lies tiredly in his bed. He's still tired and weak. He's been sleeping for like 12 hours now. He looks at the bandages covering his torso. He rolls off of the bed, and falls to the ground, rolled into a bed-themed burito. He rolls across the floor until he bumps into the wall. He opens his eyes. The walls are lined with Sumo Slammers memorabilia, ranging from posters, action figures, dolls, playsets and other items.
Ben sits up, still having his blanket wrapped around his body. He groans. "Showtime..." Ben mutters as he gets out of his cocoon.
Ben opens the door to his classroom wearily, as he enters.
"Hey, Ben! You good?" Kirishima asks from his seat, as many other worried eyes zoom at him.
"I'm fine! Nothing a soon-to-be hero can't handle." Ben says as he grins, making everyone calm down.
"We didn't really have a chance to thank you for saving us from that mist-villain, so thank you." Tokoyami says stoically, yet genuinely.
"No problem. That's what heroes do, right?" Ben says, making a small grin creep along the crow's face.
Ben walks over to his seat, and sits down. Hagakure, the invisible girl, speaks up. "Oh, did you guys watch the news last night? It was so cool how we all got a few seconds of screen time! Though I doubt anyonw saw me hanging out in the backround." She mumbles disappointedly.
"Atleast you got some at all." Ben mumbles as he stretches. "I was too busy passing out." Ben says as he rests his head on the desk.
"It is a little unfortunate that the most heroic that day didn't get any credit..." Kirishima says. "You got seriously wrecked!"
"Did you show off any new forms?" Kaminari asks.
Ben scratches the back of his head. "Eh, yeah like... four, I think." Making most of the class look at him with wonder. "First, when that teleporter guy threw we into the flood zone, I turned into Ripjaws, who's a fish-man with a face out of nightmares, then I turned into Eye Guy, who's covered in laser-shooting eyes, to freeze the villains attacking me and Tsu, then I used Diamondhead to punch Shigaraki and fight the Nomu, and then I used Stinkfly to fight the big robot." Everyone goes quiet as he mentions that last one.
"Oh yeah, I think I saw it as we exited the USJ!" Kaminari says, scratching the top of his head. "What was that thing?"
"Beats me." Bakugo grunts. "But it was weak!"
"Gotta agree with ya' there Bakubro." Ben says, making Bakugo frown.
"Don't call me that, freak." He growls.
"EVERYONE!" Iida shouts out as he stands in front of the class. "QUIET DOWN AND SIT DOWN!"
Everyone in the classroom deadpans. "You're the only one not sitting."
Iida walks back to his desk in defeat. "Darn it..." He sits down, as Uraraka pats him on the back.
"Wonder who's going to teach class today, because I doubt Aizawa will." Ben ponders as he begins leaning back in his chair, anchoring himself to his desk with his foot, making sure he doesn't fall. "That Nomu thing messed him up pretty badly."
Suddenly, the door slides open, as the Erasure Hero, Shota Aizawa, enters. "Morning class..." Everyone looks at him stunned. His face is covered in bandages, making him look like a mummy, and his right and left elbow is wrapped in bandages, and his right arm is hanging over his stomach with an Arm Sling.
"Mr. Aizawa! I'm happy you are doing well!" Iida shouts while waving his arms around.
"You call that okay?!" Uraraka asks in a whisper.
"My well-being is irrelevant. What's important is that your fight isn't over yet." Everyone tenses up.
"Our fight?" Bakugo ponders.
"Isn't over? Does he mean..." Midoriya freezes.
"Ah man. More villains?!" Ben finishes.
"The U.A. Sports Festival is on the horizon." Aizawa says.
"The U.A. what-now?" Ben asks.
"YES!" Half of the class exclaims, while the other half is still angry about how their teacher phrased that.
"LET'S GO OUT AND KICK SOME ASS!" Kirishima screams with glee, as a hand is planted in his face. Kaminari's hand.
"Wait a second!" Kaminari interupts Kirishima, as Jiro continues the electric boy's train of thought.
"Is it really a good idea to hold the festival so soon after that villain attack?"
Ojiro continues. "The villains could attack us again when we're all in the same place!"
"Apparently the administration thinks this is a good way to show that the problem has been dealt with, and that there is no more reason to worry." Aizawa says, his voice slightly muffled under the bandages. "Plus, they will beef up the security more then ever. Many pros will keep guard outside the stadium, and even more heroes will be stationed in the stands. This festival is too big of an opportunity for young heroes, and it's not something we can just cancel over a few villain."
Ben raises an eyebrow. "Really? I just thought it was for entertainment." Midoriya turns to him in confusion.
"Ben. Do you not know how important this competition is." Ben looks around, realizing that practically everyone in the classroom are looking at him as if he's crazy.
"Uh... no..." Ben says as he shrugs, as an awkward smile fills his face.
"It's a way for us to catch the attention of heroes and agencies. It's a way to get an easy route into the hero business once you graduate, and work as a sidekick." Midoriya explains.
Ben looks at Midoriya blankly. "I was just thinking I would fly solo."
"Wha- how were you going to get payed?" Midoriya asks.
"Ehhhh... I never really thought about that." Ben says as he scratches the back of his head, making everyone deadpan.
"That's true." Aizawa says. "If you want to get a proper job as a hero once you graduate, the best way to show the world what you got is to do your best in the sports festival. You only get three shots at this during your time here at U.A. Which means you better not slack off on your training." He says that last part strictly.
"Yes sir!"
As the first couple periods ends, the students are all chilling in the classroom, getting ready go to lunch. Most of them are talking about how fired up they are for the festival. Ben sits by his desk, while trying to figure out more about the event on his phone. He has heard of it, and he has seen it a few times on TV. It seems pretty interesting actually.
The event is devided into three segments, all of which being randomized competitions. The first one is a free for all, used to minimize the contestants. The second one, is a team-based competitions. And the last one, is a combat-focused event, with a bracket-based rules, where people will fight eachother for a spot on top! At first, Ben didn't really care for it, but now that he has seen it himself, he's getting kind of hyped up!
"This is going to be pretty easy!" Ben says confidently as he plants his feet on his desk and leans back in his chair.
"Don't be so sure, freakshow!" Bakugo hisses.
"Yeah, yeah, you'll kill me and I'll loose, I've heard it before, and I'll continue to hear it until my graduation. I get it!" Ben says nonchalantly, pissing off Bakugo even more.
"Hmm, everyone seems pretty fired up for the festival." Midoriya says nervously.
"You aren't?!" Iida asks. "We came here to become heroes! Why wouldn't we get fired up?!" Iida says, as he begins wiggling his waist around, as he waves his arms around weakly.
"That's an odd way to show you're fired up, Iida! It's kind of weird" Tsu says blankly, referring to his odd dance moves.
"Aren't you looking forward to it?" Iida asks Midoriya.
"I gotta ask the same! Now that I know more about it, I'm pretty invested too!" Ben says as he walks up to the two.
"Of cource I am... it's just-" Midoriya is interupted by-
"Deku, Iida, Ben..." The three turn to Uraraka. "Let's do out best at the sports festival..." Her eyes are absorbed in determination, her usually bubbly and cute behavior is now replaced with an intimidating grin and a glare that could kill.
The three boys recoil in response. "W-w-what i-is u-up with your f-face?!" Midoriya asks, stuttering.
"Wow, you're like, totally different! You're not carefree at all, even though that's what your name means!" Mina adds, poping out from behind the stunned trio.
Uraraka takes on cambat ready stance, while plunging her fist into the air. "WE'RE GONNA DO OUR BEST, RIGHT?!" Ben grins, as he plunges his fist into the air, as Iida, Midoriya, Mina and Tsu follow.
"Yeah!" Ben shouts!
Uraraka turns to the rest of the classroom, asking once more if they're gonna do their best, as they too raise their fists, although they are very confused by her shift in personality. As she does, Midoriya begins to think about something.
As the four students exit the classroom to head to the cafeteria, Midoriya asks Uraraka something.
"So, Uraraka. I was wondering, why did you want to become a pro hero?" Uraraka begins to sweat lightly, as she becomes nervous.
"Um... well... because..." Uraraka's reaction makes Midoriya find a guess.
"For m oney?!" Uraraka flinches lightly as Midoriya asks. "You want to be a hero for money?"
"Well..." She's rubbing the back of her head rapidly, as she looks around, embarrassed.
"Well... I guess, if you want to boil it down, then yes... I know it's a very unwholesome reason!" She looks down at the floor in embarrassment. "You guys have such admirable motivations, it's kind of embarrasing..."
"Why? You simply wish to support your livelihood! How is that not any less admirable then our reasoning?" Iida asks.
"He has a point." Ben says as he digs his hands into his pockets.
"Yeah, but it's just a little unexpected!" Midoriya adds.
"Well, my parents owns a construction company, but-" She begins messing with her hair. "we haven't gotten any jobs in a long time, so we're flat broke! This isn't really something I've told anyone, though..."
Iida and Midoriya cups their chin, as Ben scratches his lower cheek. "Destruction, huh..."
"Oh!" A light bulb goes off in Midoriya's head. "If she were to get licensed, she could use her quirk to bring down the costs, right?!" Ben and Iida immediately get what he means.
"She could make all any material or equipment light!" Iida adds.
"With that power, she could even help with transportation, and the odds of any accidents occuring would be extremely low, making it safer to work there!" Ben adds.
"Right?! That's exactly what I told my dad!" Uraraka shouts as she points at the three. But her excitement, quickly turns sour. "But then again, he told me he would rather want be to do what I want, and reach my own dream... so that's what I'll do. I'll become a hero, get rich, and make sure my parents will get an easy life!" She says, as her somberness turns into determination, making the trio before her look at her, inspired by her speech.
"BRAVO! BRAVO!" Iida shouts, tears running down his face.
"I gotta say, that's pretty admirable!" Ben says with a grin.
Midoriya is still rather stunned though. Suddenly, loud footsteps can be heard. "YOUNG MIDORIYA IS HERE!" All Might shouts as he runs up the the group, while pointing at Midoriya.
"A-All Might? What's wrong?" Midoriya asks with a surprised expression in his face.
"LUNCH..." He pulls out a small, bunny decorated bag. "WANNA EAT WITH ME?" All Might asks lightly, making Ben and Uraraka spit take as they giggles to themselves.
"That's adorable!/That's hilarious!" Uraraka and Ben shout respectively.
"Well?" All Might asks. Midoriya turns to Iida, who nods.
"Uh, sure." Midoriya says as he follows the mighty man. Ben and Uraraka wipe their tears from their faces.
As the three are standing in the line to get their lunch, Uraraka speaks up. "So, why do you guys thing that All Might wanted to talk to Deku?"
Ben tries to keep Midoriya's and All Might's secret under wraps. "Beats me... hey, why do you call him Deku? I thought only Bakugo called him that." Ben asks.
Iida decides to respond. "You see, he said that Bakugo used it to make fun of him, but when Uraraka said it was cute, he quickly switched tracks." Ben immediately deadpans.
"Of cource he did."
"But to answer your question, Uraraka, I believe Midoriya tried to save All Might during the attack. Maybe it's about that." Iida says. "And remember what Tsu said about their quirks on the bus? All Might must have taken a liking to him!"
"Makes sence." Uraraka says.
"Eh... yeah... sure." Ben says as he scratches the back of his neck.
Not too far away from them, stands their dual-coloured classmate. 'All Might and Izuku Midoriya. Hmm' He scowls weakly as he looks at the trio.
As the class are sitting in the classroom, less then a minute away from the school day to end. Before them, stands Aizawa, there to deliver one last announcement for the day. "Tomorrow, you will return to the USJ to actually complete your Rescue training."
"WHAT?!" The class shouts.
"Sir!" Iida stands up while raising his arm into the air. "Is it truly safe to return there so soon, especially after the tragedy that nearly transpired?!" Iida question, as he flails his arm around.
"Furthermore, returning there might bring up repressed trauma!" Yaoyorozu adds. "And the possibility of another attack is not out of the question!"
Aizawa nods. "I see where you're coming from, but I wasn't done speaking." Iida and Yaoyorozu settle down. "Since the attack, we have added many more failsafes and firewalls to the security system, and since the one who was behind the blackout has been captured, the odds of the villains entering without the authorities being informed, are low." Some students seem to have been put at ease, but others, aren't completely sure. "And, we won't be going there alone this time." The class are mildly confused by this. "We weill be joined by Class 1-B." This makes the entire class raise an eyebrow.
"Is that really a good idea?" Kaminari asks. "And, why is that necessary?"
Aizawa scratches his nose with his working arm. "Since the attack, it's very clear that many members of class 1-B believes you are a gang of brats, who don't have any respect or care for anyone else in U.A. That all the attention have already gotten to your head." Most people in the class are disheartened by this.
"We're brats because we almost died?! Wow..." Ben says as he crosses his arms.
"But... If they join you during the rescue excercise, we hope that they'll see that you too are worthy of being heroes."
"So it's a way to get all the extras from the other classes to like us?" Bakugo asks, annoyed. "Tsk. What a waste of time."
"Well... maybe there is at least one brat in this class..." Ben says as he settles down, making Bakugo twitch with anger, but he restrains himself... I didn't even know he could do that!
"And, since 1-B will be joining us, their teacher will as well. Vlad King." Aizawa says. The class begins to settle down, seemingly calming down. "Now, if you wish to do well during the festival, which I assume you do, then I expect you to spend these next few days training!" Everyone nods simultaneously, as they are excused.
Epilogue
One of the drones lunges forwards, plunging its fist into Shigaraki's stomach, making him wretch. He plants his hand onto the robot's back, as it begins to rust and crack, falling to the ground as a pile of rust. Shigaraki gets up, as another robot tries to tackle him. Shigaraki rolls out of the robot's way, as it punches a hole through the floor. Shigaraki tries to destroy this one too, but it grabs the villain by the wrist, as it squeezes his arm, making Shigaraki fall to his knees in pain. He tries to attack with his other arm, but the robot grabs it too.
Kurogiri extends his body, consuming two robots into his form, teleporting them away. He tries to suck up another on, but it raises its arm, as some a barrel pops out of it. It takes aim, and a red laser is shot at him. Instead of getting sucked into the villain's teleporting torso, the blast hits him on the collar, making him flinch. The robot then shoots him in the face. He backs away, as the robot tackles him, slamming him into a shelf. The robot then plants its blaster on his face, not giving him a chance to use his quirk.
Rojo sidesteps out of the way of a metallic right hook. She grabs the robot's arm and throws it over her shoulder, slamming the drone into the ground. She proceeds to crush the robot's head by stomping on it, deactivating it. Another robot tries to grab her in a sleeper choke, but before it can get a good grip, she grabs its arm, spins around, and slams it into a nearby wall, damaging the robot. Another robot suddenly vanishes. Rojo doesn't seem to care, as she grabs a bottle of whiskey from the counter and takes a few gulps, as the robot reappears behind her soundlessly, raising its hand as it sharpens, creating a dagger of sorts. Just as it's about to stab her, she throws the bottle backwards, slamming it into the robot's skull, knocking it to the floor. She then proceeds to lift the robot into the air by the neck, as she throws it into a wall. The robot sparks and jerks, until it collapses onto the ground.
"As I expected." Vilgax's voice calls out from an unknown source. "You're league is composed out of nothing but fools and weaklings..."
"Hey!" Rojo shouts as she picks up the pieces of the smashed whisky bottle. "I actually defeated your damn robots!"
"You failed to collect the Omnitrix from a mere child, you have no right to question me!" Vilgax hisses. "You, the man behind the monitor. You are clearly the true mastermind behind these operations. Your soldiers are weak, undisciplined and irritable. I will grant you the means to turn your underlings into warriors! In return, I will be free to take command of your league, should the need arise."
"Hmm... that is a tempting offer!" The man on the other side of the screen says.
"No, master!" Shigaraki shouts, still restrained by the humanoid drone. "Don't trust this trespasser! He's trying to take control of your league!"
"Don't mind my disciple, Vilgax. He's simply too inexperienced to understand the worth of alliances!" The voice says calmly. "Don't worry Tomura. There is no reason to worry. He's simply trying to make a transaction. Plus... he couldn't take you, even if he wanted to..." He speaks with malice, although it seems to bring Shigaraki a sence of calm. "I accept."
Chapter 8 - Say hello to Class 1-B
