Chapter 50 - Chapter 50

Crook from a far also noticed the tinny drones which was surveiling the town immediately through a burner phone called Julius to alert him.

As soon as the line got connected, he began to explain what he had just seen and asked if they were to suspend the whole training or carry on with it.

" That confirms it, one of my boys noticed a group of people gather at the rear route to the town. He said the looked suspicious and that it seemed like there were more in the woods"

" That's impossible, how can that. It definitely can't be the government right"

" I should be asking you that. You brought to me four of the Bounty the government put out thinking I wouldn't know if you didn't tell me huh. The dying of the hair was a smart and dumb idea"

Crook for a moment was silent unable to think of any words to utter , he was guilty as charged in this situation but all said was thy he could only apologize and seek what was the next course of action.

Near where the army secretly camped at, Fray and Gwen under the moonlight seemed different from their previous selves. Their eyes glowed with crimson and there hands grew claws.

" They seem after our home" fray with a low growl looked in the direction of the military without a single hint of fright.

Gwen agreed with her sister and they both leisurely moved towards the camp. Their sight alerted the military at the camp making them to suspend what they were doing.

They all in fluid movements pretended to be campers who were spending the night out in the area.

" Aiye" one of the soldiers called out at the two figures in there sight, " what are you both doing walking around in the woods at night"

"Oh children it's dangerous out here" the soldiers as if speaking out of a script simultaneously tried to feign worry at the visitors they were having.

They each had a cup and a can in their hands faking the action of sipping down a cup of warm milk. Fray could immediately tell it's a fake given her heightened sense of smell at the moment.

" Voosh"

"Oh the devil!!! all members be at alert" Jeffery instructed after witnessing the two girls vanished form his line of sight. Their speed was so fast that it was hard to even determine if they were ghost or if they were hallucinating.

"Clicks"

The soldiers' movements were a blur of precision as they geared up for battle. Night scopes flickered to life, casting an ethereal glow on the forest floor. The air was heavy with anticipation, the silence punctuated only by the soft clinking of metal and the distant hooting of an owl.

Jeffery's voice was a low, gravelly whisper, his words snapping through the darkness like a whip. "Positions, now!" The soldiers sprang into action, their footsteps light on the forest floor as they fanned out into defensive formations.

The trees loomed above, their branches like skeletal fingers reaching for the sky. The moon cast long shadows, making it seem as though the forest itself was moving, twisting and writhing in the darkness.

Fray and Gwen's disappearance had left a vacuum, a sense of unease that hung in the air like a challenge. The soldiers knew they were out there, watching and waiting. The question was, where would they strike?

The forest grew clam with even the sound of the creeping insects being isolated , the only sound the soft rustling of leaves and the creaking of branches. The soldiers stood frozen, their eyes scanning the darkness for any sign of movement. And then, without warning, one of the soldiers was dragged from the darkness into the deeper sides of the forest.

" Stay calm, focus remember we also have enhanced strength. Do not let fear consume you and attack at the slightest sound of movement" Jeffery ordered.

" Snap "

Bullets were released at the direction where the sound came from but instead of a scream to be head, a body was flung in their direction when they planned to reload their rifles. The body was injured with two piercings on the abdomen of bullet from which they had fired luckily the body was still breathing.

Giggles of little children echoed around the area making their heart entertained by horror the night itself had put them in. The darkness of the forest was a living, breathing entity, its shadows twisting and writhing like serpents as the soldiers scrambled to regroup and reassess their strategy. The air was heavy with tension, the silence punctuated only by the sound of ragged breathing and the soft rustle of leaves beneath their feet.

Jeffery's voice cut through the darkness, his words a steady anchor in the chaos. "Flanking maneuvers, now!" he barked, his voice low and urgent. The soldiers sprang into action, their movements a blur of precision as they fanned out into a crescent-shaped formation, attempting to encircle the two sisters.

The trees loomed above, their branches like skeletal fingers reaching for the sky, as the soldiers laid down a hail of suppressive fire. The sound of gunfire echoed through the forest, the muzzle flashes casting an eerie glow on the surroundings. Fray and Gwen darted and weaved, their movements a blur of speed and agility as they avoided the bullets.

The soldiers' training kicked in, their instincts honed to respond to the unpredictable nature of the sisters' attacks. They moved with a fluid precision, their footsteps light on the forest floor as they closed in for the kill.

But Fray and Gwen were far from defeated. Their eyes glowed with an otherworldly energy, their bodies seemingly fueled by madness that became brighter with every passing moment. They moved with a speed and ferocity that was almost supernatural, their claws swiping through the air with deadly precision.

The battle was a maelstrom of chaos, the soldiers fighting for survival against the relentless assault of the two sisters. The outcome was far from certain, as Fray and Gwen's powers seemed to be evolving, making them increasingly formidable opponents. The soldiers would need to adapt and respond quickly to survive the night, their lives hanging precariously in the balance.
