It's been a week since the academy started and now Ken was on his own. He no longer had Hiruzen to train him. Mukai was still his bodyguard and the one responsible for his taijutsu skills and enhancing his six senses. Mukai was not much of a swordsman so he could only teach Ken the basics of Kenjutsu.
Seeing that he had mastered all the jutsus that Hiruzen had taught him except the rubber and quicklime form of lava, he decided to learn some B-rank jutsus of Earth release and Fire release.
He wanted to have a sufficient number of B-rank jutsus before he graduated. Since a C-rank mission can become an A-rank mission at any time, having B-rank jutsus would comfort him and give him a sense of security.
Ken went to Hiruzen's personal library of jutsus to learn some new jutsus.
He wanted to first master B rank jutsus of both earth release and fire release natures before moving to other natures as well as his kekkei Genkais.
As for A rank jutsus, he had to ask Hiruzen to give him some but Hiruzen was not going to give him that high rank of a jutsu yet. He was going to give an A-rank jutsu when he graduates anyway.
Thus, he decided to train Rasengan.
A jutsu without a hand sign would be his trump card when fighting in close combat.
Just imagine him fighting with fists with his enemy but he suddenly forms a Rasengan and slams it to his enemy's chest. It would be an instant victory.
It would be a brilliant combination with his Ash fist jutsu too.
The jutsu that his grandpa gave him to sense his opponents was Earth Release: Seismic Sense. Despite its usefulness, it was deemed to be a C-rank jutsu because of its many weaknesses and shortcomings.
It can be only used when the shinobi is on the ground. It is useless on water bodies like rivers and seas. A shinobi who has jumped in the air or who is on a raised platform like a tree or someone who is flying can't be sensed either.
He can't use it to distinguish whether a person is a civilian or a shinobi, an ally or an enemy, a genin or a jonin.
Its only use thus was to prevent anyone sneak attacking him from behind as it would alert him if someone got behind him. He could also use it to find out if anyone was going to ambush him.
It could not detect every attack like if someone threw a kunai, he would not be able to detect it.
But Ken had an idea to combine this jutsu with some other jutsu that uses wind to sense people.
He would then be able to also sense people in the air or any flying shurikens. This jutsu had a weakness opposite to that of the earth tremor jutsu. If anything is stationary on the ground, it would not be able to detect it.
He searched the entire library to pick the jutsus that would suit him. Although he wanted to learn all of them, it was too time-consuming.
It was better to master a few jutsus and reduce their hand signs than learn a thousand jutsus that can only be done by using all of their hand signs. It was very easy to know which one was more useful in a battle between shinobi.
The first jutsu that he picked was Earth Style: Great Mud River.
Using the jutsu, Ken could transform the surface underneath his opponent into a muddy river that sweeps them off their feet and carries them downstream.
The next jutsu he chose was Earth Style: Earth Dragon Bomb.
After creating a mud source, Ken could create a dragon-like head to shoot mud balls at an enemy.
He remembered that in the anime Hiruzen combined this jutsu with a fire jutsu to be more threatening, as the fire makes the mud balls searing hot.
'I thought, Mud is a kekkei Genkai. But every second earth jutsu is a Mud jutsu here.' Ken thought
Earth Style: Mud Wall was the third jutsu that he selected. It will form an earth wall in front of the user.
The most interesting jutsu he found was the Earth Style: Rupturing Earth Palm. This Jutsu is also called as the earthquake slam. Ken liked this jutsu a lot.
This jutsu causes the ground surrounding the enemy to spiral inwards on itself, burying them alive or crushing them. This technique is capable of causing quite a bit of damage to the area.
This jutsu is like Gildarts (Fairy Tail) crushing magic used on the ground. It can be used to destroy any area or to make the enemy fall. Even a huge summoning beast might fall because of its jutsu.
[A/N: This jutsu is classified as C rank along with the other two jutsu in the databooks and the fandoms. But they are quite strong for C rank so I decided to classify them as B rank]
He only took one fire jutsu scroll which was the Fire Style: Dragon flame bomb. (Karyū Endan)
Flames are manipulated into the shape of a dragon and divided to strike the target from the left, right, and front all at once.
This was one of the strongest B-rank fire jutsu. The amount of skill it takes to control the flames in this jutsu makes it very difficult to learn and use. Its power equaled an A rank jutsu.
After checking the library once again if he missed any jutsu, he took the scrolls for the respective jutsus and decided to learn them.
