✿ "In the Arms of Memory" ✿

I saw her face within the dream,
Soft laughter lost in silver gleam.
Her voice — a whisper, faint yet near,
Calling my name through every tear.
The world grew dark, but love remained,
A bond unbroken, though hearts were pained.
And when I wake, I feel her still —
In every breath, in every will.

It was four in the morning when Ariel woke up, her face damp with tears. She hadn't realized she'd been crying until the wetness reached her neck. Her heart ached painfully as the images of her mother faded from her dream.
A quiet sob escaped her lips.
Horace stirred beside her, his keen senses picking up the soft sound. He turned toward her and gently cupped her face in his hands.
"My love," he whispered tenderly. "What's wrong? Why are you crying?"
His voice was full of concern, but she couldn't bring herself to speak. Her chest tightened painfully, and her lips trembled.
