Chapter 8 - Talents

I couldn't take it anymore.

The whispers, the shadows, Ava's strength, that monster at school… it was all too much. My head was pounding, my chest felt like it would rip open. I needed answers.

I slammed my bedroom door shut and sat on the edge of my bed, staring at the cracked mirror on the wall. My reflection glared back at me—messy hair, tired eyes, a face I barely recognized anymore.

"Hey, you," I muttered, leaning forward until my forehead almost touched the glass. "I know you're in there." My voice shook, but I forced the words out. "I need to know what's going on. What was that monster? Why are you in my body? I need answers."

For a moment, nothing. Just silence, the kind that made my ears ring. My fists clenched on my knees, frustration burning hotter by the second. Then—

Laughter.

It started low, like a whisper in my chest, then grew louder, darker, until it echoed inside my skull. I gritted my teeth as my reflection seemed to smirk back at me.

"You need answers, huh?" the voice hissed, dripping with mockery. "Don't worry… you'll get your answers. Very soon."

My heart thudded. I wanted to scream, but I bit it back. "Start talking."

The voice chuckled again, then grew sharper, more serious.

"The night of the blue moon… that's when I slipped in. When you opened the door. Your body was weak, vulnerable. And I—" it paused, almost smug "—I made it stronger. Faster. Deadlier."

My stomach twisted, but I stayed quiet.

"You call them powers," the voice continued. "I call them talents. Gifts buried deep, waiting for the right moment to awaken. That girl—Ava—she's not ordinary. What you saw today was no accident. She has her own talent. A strength awakened, just like yours. Maybe weaker. Maybe not. Time will tell."

Ava… a talent too? My chest tightened.

"And that monster at school?" I asked.

"That thing wasn't human anymore," the voice hissed. "Shadows twisted into flesh drawn to power. The world is filling with them… and only those with talents can stand against them."

I swallowed hard, my throat dry. None of this felt real, but deep down I knew it was.

The voice softened, almost whispering now. "But before you dream of trusting her… Ava must be tested. Studied. Watched. If she is trustworthy, maybe—maybe—our secret can be shared. But betrayals…" The voice darkened again. "…betrayals cut deepest when they come from friends.

This the summarized version of your answers ,you will get your full version soon

I gripped the edge of the bed, trembling. My reflection stared back at me, its eyes darker than mine, as though something else was staring through me.

So Ava was like me. Stronger than she let on. But could I trust her? Or would trusting her only destroy me?

I pressed a hand to my chest, trying to steady the chaos inside.

"I don't know if I can keep this up," I whispered.

The voice chuckled, fading into silence. "You don't have a choice."

And just like that, I was alone again—alone with too many answers, and even more questions.
