The samurai, sensing something amiss, immediately drew his sword and slashed off the head of the child in the woman's arms. The child then dissipated into a wisp of blue smoke, vanishing without a trace.
The child was killed, but the woman showed no sign of grief or anger. Instead, she continued to smile alluringly, spreading her arms wide and saying, "Then please hold me."
The samurai, unmoved by her beauty, swung his sword again, cutting off the woman's head.
Subsequently, the woman also disappeared into thin air.
The next day, the samurai returned to the scene of the previous night's events, only to find two graves with their upper parts chopped off.
From this incident, the name "Smiling Seikou" was given to the blade used to slay the specters.
Later, this famed blade, which had banished ghosts and spirits, was passed into the hands of the Heian Period daimyo, Kyogoku Takakazu.
