Chapter 2 - Chapter One

Suzie lied her head down in the grass, feeling the wind blow all around her. She lay in a field of lush grass as far as she could see. The breeze was so calming that it seemed to lift up all of her fears and anxieties. In fact it was lifting up HER! She didn't seem to mind and quite enjoyed floating around. She spread her arms out to the side and flew across the grassy ocean. She let her hand run against the blades of grass, which were very soft and almost felt like a cool blanket. She felt so free as her long hair flew like a flag and glided across the landscape like a bird. Suddenly, almost out of no where, a small bird flew beside her. It looked like a rather normal bird, but it was all silver. Before Suzie could think twice, she was headed right for a tree. She braced for impact and was suddenly back in her bed.

Suzie let out a sigh, disappointed that it wasn't real. She looked around her room. Her bed was a mess. Her bed sheet was falling off the mattress she found at a flea market. Her blanket was shoved into the side where the bed and the side wall met. Her trash was nearly over flowing from a plastic trash can she found on the side of the road. Suzie quickly shot out of bed and to her dresser. She rummaged through her clothes and old drawings to find a note book with the cover being held together by scotch tape and staples. She grabbed a pen and began writing down the dream she had.

" Ok, green grassy fields... flying... weird silvery bird. " Suzie mumbled.

Suzie was then startled by a knock at her door and a sweet and familiar voice she knew all too well.

" Are you getting ready, Suzie? " Tony asked stern, but worried.

Tony was always there for her. He was even the one who helped get her the house she was in now. Suzie quickly glanced to a digital clock she had sitting on top of her dresser, which read " 8:45 "

Wait, CRAP, I'M GONNA BE LATE!

Suzie quickly slipped out of her sweatpants and t-shirt and into her black work pants and black button down shirt. She quickly slid a tan apron over her shirt and grabbed a cap that had a big waffle on the front of it. She nearly fell on her face when putting on her shoes. She grabbed her phone and wallet before heading out the door.

Tony was already dressed and was in his car. Tony's car was used, so it wasn't in the best shape. It had a dent in the side and a small dent on the front bumper. The car's color was faded. It used to be more of a chrome color but was now a dull grey color. Tony tried to spruce it up with some stickers, but to Suzie, it was a bit tacky. Most of the stickers were old jokes and some were just stuff he found at local stops and gas stations. The car was just big enough to sit the two of them and four of their friends.

They all went inside the diner. Derek leaned on the counter.

" Well, look who finally came in. " Derek said, mockingly.

" Not now, Derek. I'm not in the mood. " Suzie said, half asleep.

Derek was ready to deck her in the face but the manger came up behind them and let out a cough.

" Suzie, may I have a word with you. " The manger said, sternly.

That can't be good.
