Chapter 141 - The Strength of Your Love

Being trapped underneath the God's mansion for so long, Evangeline was desperate to find an end to her suffering.

There was nothing else for her to do other than hope that one day she would either be put out of her misery or saved by someone.

The likelihood of the latter seemed impossible though as who in their right mind would— or even could— defy the wishes of a God.

Days went by since her first imprisonment and she was already shown the true nature of the God she was told was the most righteous and holy.

He was a sick monster that only held those of purity as treats to snack on until there was no more left to chew.

Even after five years of the constant treatment, Evangeline still held on despite the gnawing pain and heart ache.

Her desire for Edmond only grew as he was the only one that made her feel happy during the toughest times.

It was this feeling that the God preyed on the most.

He constantly brought up the futility of her dependance on the idea of her lover swooping in to save her.

There was nothing she could do except accept it until the moment he grew tired of her.

So, when Edmond did in fact end up in the Angelic Realm, the God did not grow worried but instead grew excited at the prospect of showing Evangeline an even greater pain: the pain of losing her lover forever without even getting the chance to see him one last time.

Now, after telling her of his scheme, the God left Evangeline to sit in silence and know that the chance she had been hoping for the longest time was about to be taken away.

'No. How could Edmond be fooled like this? Is there really no end to this life of torment?'

Evangeline had toughed it out for the entire time, but now her mentality was being shaken, and the final embers of hope were being extinguished.

'Does he not feel my love for him? Is that it?'

With one last thought, she passed out from exhaustion.

On the other side of things, Ego was out and about with a plan in mind after being shown the ways of the two rulers.

Firstly, they casually touched Theef and transferred a trace of spirit water into his body to start the process of awakening a wisp of consciousness in him.

The process took a while as it was their first time, but soon enough they had utilized the special nature of their constitution to their advantage and formed a connection with Theef.

'If you can hear me, let me know inside your head.'

Theef did well to hide the surprise of the sudden voice in his mind but knew that this was the start of the fight against the God's plan.

'Loud and clear.'

'Good. We need to get the rest of them in on the issue at hand without rousing the suspicion of the prick lying in wait.'

'Alright, but what then? I can't imagine Edmond will take the matter lightly and I'm not sure if he can stand up against a god.'

'But I can.'

Theef turned to Null and then back at Edmond and the fake Evangeline.

'That's right. As long as Null can get to him before he can screw us over, he can find a way to reverse the situation,' Theef had complete trust in his best friend.

With the plan set in motion, under the guise of celebrating the reuniting with the final flame Ego managed to successfully plant wisps in each of the members of the crew except for Edmond.

'I just don't understand why he would set up such an elaborate plan,' Klein was almost shaken upon receiving the message, but stood firm.

'I'm ready to kill the bastard. I don't care what he's planning, but he gives me the creeps,' Z'oelo's stance remained steady as always.

'But to end a God... Even I can't see the depths of his power,' Barter's Ruler was perturbed about the matter of ending a higher being.

He was right.

The God in question did not even allow others to see his true form.

It was an effortless feat to conceal his presence and walk among the others like normal.

'All will go well if I get my hands on him. We just can't risk him taking Ms. Florie hostage or anything lest he figure us out beforehand,' Null was confident in his abilities.

He was given the power to bend the cosmos to his will.

What of a God when faced with the wielder of the Cosmic Authority.

With the crew in the know about the circumstances, they devised a way to work around the supervision in the simplest manner.

As soon as the lover and the fake separated from their long-awaited reuniting, the crew moved to "congratulate" him.

In reality, they sought to separate him from the fake and enact the first phase of their plan.

Very smoothly, Ego went up to the fake Evangeline and chatted her up while looking for a way to touch her without alerting her.

"How is it being an angel, Miss Evangeline? I can't imagine it being as bad as a hideous demon," Ego said as a jab to Edmond.

"It feels wonderful! The lands are full of life and we angels are so compassionate with one another. Life could not be any better."

"I see. Well, that's good and all, but we have other places we must go, so we must be getting on with it."

"Oh. Yeah, I guess we can't stay here forever," the fake smiled while laughing inwardly.

'Finally, they've taken the bait and are going to leave with me. The lord truly is as magnificent as I believed he was.'

Her inner voice was wicked— a stark contrast to the angelic appearance she had taken— and full of reverence towards the mastermind behind the scheme.

It was a wonder how such sinister souls managed to find their way to the Angelic Realm.

Just like with any others, eventually those with the potential for bad would fall to such depths.

It seemed even depraved souls could end up blessed enough to find themselves in paradise.

While the initial cheery mood of the moment died down, Ego noticed more and more flaws in the way the imposter was acting.

There was no thought to ask the radiant God for his permission or even thoughts on the matter as the ruler of the realm.

Edmond could roam freely because he took over Azazel's place as the Devil, but a soul under the confines of the Hallowed Plane should not have been easily able to leave unless they had permission from the ruler of their respective realm.

After all, the Hallowed Plane was only accessible to those who were reincarnated as either angels or demons.

It was a closed off plane and the only reason that Null and the crew were able to travel there was thanks to Void's special nature.

Ego figured you could not just escape the system so simply as the God of the Angelic Realm would have left behind long ago.

Or maybe he enjoyed his rule in the realm too much to leave it all behind.

All in all, Ego had a hunch that the God wanted them to leave and the sooner it was, the better it was for him.

'He must've gotten content with the life he has made here given that he is at the peak of the current standards.'

Having the Cosmic Structure at their disposal, Ego could gauge the levels of strength better than anyone else and they knew that Enlightenment was merely a steppingstone in the path.

As they had yet to find a well-known dictation for the next step, Ego put off the matter as they would get to it eventually with the way Null was going about things.

While they were thinking, Edmond had noticed the few odd brush-ups that Ego was doing to plant a wisp of consciousness inside of each of the crew members and was also thinking to himself.

He inwardly sighed and without even the slightest touch, he was inside Ego's own mind through a wisp.

'This Evangeline... she's an imposter, isn't she?'

As a testament to Evangeline's worry, it would be strange if Edmond had truly fallen for the scheme of the God under the current circumstance.

The strength of his love might have blinded him at first, but it was what had shown him the truth when the meticulous ploy was being actively revealed.
