Chapter 128 - An Unexpected Awakening (125)

Starfania felt the weight of his accusation like a physical blow. Not only must she keep the truth of their hometown being VulcanFire, but she also had to keep her lineage a secret–as Caesar's daughter. Her pulse raced as she met his fierce gaze, summoning all her resolve. Starfania took a deep breath, steadying herself.

"We are not spies," she said firmly, her voice steady despite the storm inside her. "We come from a place that has seen more hardship than you can imagine. However, we stand for something greater. We fight for the truth."

Lyam's brow furrowed, skepticism etched across his face. "The truth? Or are you simply trying to protect your own interests? It's hard to believe you when your past is shrouded in such secrecy."

Violet shifted uneasily, glancing at Aeron for support.

"We all have our histories, Lyam," she interjected, her tone softer. "But it doesn't define our present or our intentions. We've come here seeking allies, not enemies."

The tension in the air thickened as Lyam considered her words. Starfania sensed the flicker of doubt in his eyes, a glimmer of possibility. She pressed on, her heart racing. "You may not trust us now, but our goals align. We all want to see an end to the violence, to the chaos that grips this land. Together, we might stand a chance."

The silence hung heavy as Lyam weighed her plea. He glanced at Aeron and Violet, seeking their thoughts in the brief exchange of glances. At that moment, Starfania could feel the balance of their fates hanging in the air, teetering on the edge of decision. Would he trust them, or would he turn them away, sealing their fate in shadows?

Before they could react, Lyam's demeanor shifted. The smirk faded, replaced by something unreadable. Without a word, he unlocked the cell door and swung it open. The creak of the hinges echoed through the chamber as he stepped aside, tilting his head slightly in silent invitation. Starfania hesitated, her pulse quickening. But despite her uncertainty, something in his gaze–a fire both intense and unwavering–compelled her forward. Without fully understanding why, she could trust him. Holding her breath, she stepped out. With swift precision, he sealed the door behind her, the iron bars clicking into place. His brown eyes locked onto midnight eyes, unreadable yet piercing.

" Realising you doesn't mean I trust you, " he said, his voice even but firm.

Before Starfania could respond, his hand closed around her arm–not harsh, but unyielding. He pulled her closer, his voice dropping to a low command. " If you want my trust, prove your worth. "

An unspoken understanding passed between them in that moment, thick with tension. Then, without breaking stride, he moved to unlock Aeron's and Violet's cells. The siblings rushed toward each other, relief washing over their faces as they embraced. It was the first genuine moment of solace since waking up in this place. Lyam turned back to the trio, his stance unwavering. " Follow me. "

Puzzled by Lyam's actions, they hesitated for a moment before cautiously following him through the door. He moved with purpose, leading them swiftly to a hidden black entrance. With a firm push, he threw it open, revealing a breathtaking world beyond–one unlike anything they had ever seen before.
