Regardless of the nightmare, she would hardly approve of her brother marrying Valerie. It was not that she disliked her or her partially humble background, as discriminating over social class or status was something that she detested, as she was still holding her perspective that every human being was equal.
Instead, it was caused by the fact that she had seen them as family, although they did not have a blood relationship. She had regarded Valerie as her sister, and she meant it.
Hence, if she saw Valerie married to her brother, in her eyes it looked like her brother married his own sister, and Joanna could not deal with that presumptuous view.
Besides, by saying that, apart from the essence of the dream, she also wished for Valerie to pursue her happiness by not ruining innocents' lives.
