Chapter 7 - Going into Primary School

Nearly a year and a half later…

-September 3, 1969-

Gilderoy's POV

Today is the day that I start going to school. I'm pretty excited in general despite the fact that I am going into kindergarten, it would be a great opportunity for me to make some new friends and maybe I could even learn something new as I never went to a British primary school.

I will attending Mayflower Primary School, which is supposedly one of the best primary schools in the area. Well, I can't really judge about it really... As for my eldest sister, Margaret, she is already attending a magical school, she would've went to Hogwarts like my mum did but for some reason, my mum decided for her to attend Wilkinshire Academy of Magical Studies and Learning. Maybe it was for her safety, as who knows what is still terrorizing both magical and muggles across the isle.

Those damn fanatics!

But perhaps it is partially because of her gaining more favouritism towards me. Goodness gracious I hope not, I love my mum but I still want my sisters to not feel left out.

As for the the school, it is located in some remote place of Canada, it's neither a big nor small school and currently has a maximum of roughly 750 students attending there. The school is mostly well known for producing highly skilled but academically inclined students, for they specialize in Runes, Enchantments, Herbology, and Potions.

The school itself encourages their students to be creative, intelligent, and while still being hardworking.

Although this school was started by a few Hogwarts Alumni, it already deviated greatly from Hogwarts since it's inception from 1785. This school has no house and points system. Their school colours are indigo and bronze with a black crow as their mascot. Sounds to me like Ravenclaw's dream...

As for their style of uniforms, they are much less formal as they only wear a white buttoned up shirt, an Indigo coloured tie, and a light grey cardigan. They also wear a tan coloured tweed trousers for the males and a pleated black checkered skirt for the females. They don't provide a formalized wizarding robe attire as they believe that providing them a wizarding robe as part of their uniform would be too expensive. They instead requires the students bring themselves their own robes.

They also don't have a requirement of wearing leather shoes as part of their uniforms, so I have heard that many students wore their own types of shoes.

As for why I also think why she is attending there in that specific magical school in Canada and not anywhere else, well my mum knows a few former classmates in her year that she sometimes send letters to communicate with them and has since then moved away to Canada and now currently worked as staff members of that particular school.

Since she knew them enough, she uses an owl to send a letter for a request for an enrolment for Margaret last year, since then they communicated back and forth due to school supplies, the entrance exam and amongst other requirements on enrolling my sister, Margaret. After the all the due process and some paperwork that my mum has to fill out on, especially for the enrolment process while sending a formal rejection letter to Hogwarts, they finally gave my mum an approval letter on Margaret's enrolment.

And yes, my family has an owl though it mostly own by mum as she bought it a couple years back. Let's just say that taking care of it and cleaning it became one of our chores.

For my sister, it was not that difficult to pass the entrance exam due to her being studious and having sufficient magical powers to easily pass it. Though I did have a hand in helping as the past year, as I helped her in memorizing and studying theoretical knowledge that is enough to pass as first year.

Especially, when I already have enough magical knowledge to cover the first year classes, only theoretically of course, which I graciously asked my mum if she has any of her old magical books in her possession she kept and she kindly offer to give her old books to me while also offering some extra lessons for me and my older sisters.

I think other main reason as to why mum is sending Margaret to another school instead Hogwarts is because she didn't want her to embarrass me by the time I arrive to attend Hogwarts. I think that's the same thing for Sarah as well, for mum is also thinking about what school she would send Sarah to quite recently as well.

My mum has recently started to praise me and compliment me more that she is going over inflate my ego if I were a regular child. So I make sure to politely tell her to tone it down a bit and do it more subtly as like I said, I don't want my sisters to become jealous and feel left out. I honestly thought she would not do that kind of stuff due to my older sisters being magical and not squibs, but it is probably because of their magical potential.

At this current point, I have already started to practice my magic for a while now. I have gradually started to refine my overall control and efficiency on my magical energy to the point that I can somewhat sense my sisters's magical potential and based upon my observations, they're going to have average level talent and prowess, perhaps.

Keep in mind, they would become more skilled and robust if they worked really hard and could effectively learn if they're determined and worked hard enough. Therefore my analysis is very fallible.

And I think my mum can kinda sense their potential too as that's probably the reason why she loves me more as the favourite child for her.

Due to my sisters potential on magic being so average. Starting the past couple years, I willingly started to help them out on maximizing their magic efficiency by providing them a basic calisthenic exercises, do a yoga routine regularly, meditations, and doing some control exercises on their magic use. I told them repeatedly do some some simple spells repeatedly with concentration and focus while also taking account having rest days. And don't forget running, as we did a lot of running mainly on the nearby park.

I hope my efforts will be fruitful for them as I want them to have a sufficient enough power to at least reach above average in skills. God knows they need it…

Anyways, now, I'm about to go for my first day at the primary school. My dad has started the car and my mum decided to not drive today. I went in the car with my leather book bag and wearing a white polo shirt, a navy blue jumper, a grey trouser, and a pair of black leather shoes along with the school crest on the jumper.

After a little while, I finally arrived at the entrance of the primary, where my dad dropped me off and they went to the reception desk and quickly ask them where is my classroom and one of their staff politely told me the room and quietly lead me to the classroom. My dad pat me on the head as he said goodbye.

Thankfully, it was before the bell has rung, so I arrived here on time. I quickly found a desk and chair to sit and relax.

Moments later, the teacher arrived and did the role call of all the students in her class and asked their names, age, and likes/dislikes. It continued on for about several minutes until my name is called out.

"Now, then, may you please introduce yourself?" Mrs. Clark asked.

"My name is Gilderoy R. Lockhart and I am 5 years old. I like reading and I dislike anchovies. Yucky!"

"Alright then, Gilderoy! It's nice that you like to read. It's good for the mind, mister. It will be quite interesting to know you better." As Mrs. Clarke remarked softly.

"You as well, Mrs. Clarke." As I said politely to her.

After all of my peers Introduction is finished, we began to start on the first lesson for today. Really quite boring innit, really…

We were just learning about on how to count to 10 and doing some basic addition and subtraction lesson. Reading time or in many cases, learning how to read for most of the kids, but since I already knew how to read very well and considerably much more than my peers. I decided to just doodle around on some pieces of paper. Mrs. Clark was bit unamused as to why I am not listening to her, but she politely asked why I am not listening…

I simply told her that I already knew how to read and my reading comprehension is far above my peers.

So I demonstrated my understanding by reading the whole picture book that I got from the class's library area out loud with no breaks or stuttering.

Mrs. Clarke was promptly impressed with my ability, but softly reminded me to stlll pay attention to develop a better habit. She then promptly left me alone to keep drawing. Really, that teacher thinks I'm a bit arrogant, but alright considering how much I have to downplay my own level so so much…

Then recess time happened and I went outside to play. I played hopscotch, leapfrog, of course good old football with my classmates and some kids from the other classes, to be honest I haven't that much fun in years.

"This is fun, so fun" I exclaimed as I hadn't played around and be like a child for quite a long time, well outside of my family's of course.

After the interesting recess, lunch has started, my lunch is a simple ham and cheese sandwich, a small bottle of apple juice, and a Tupperware filled with carrots and celery. It was a good lunch, really wish mum let me prepared my own food today.

45 minutes later, The Lunch period has ended and the whole class took a nap, myself included. It was a restful nap, except for the occasional drools and snoring from some kids around me…

After an hour we all woke and it's time to go home, my parents is outside waiting and I exited the entrance and pick me up. I went inside the car and my parents asked me about my day. My mum decided to pick me up this afternoon.

"How's your day" She asked amusely

"It was alright today, mum, a bit tedious and playtime and lunch was the only thing keeping me sane." As I explained with a slight sigh as I know that it would be dreadful for me if I have to hold back so much.

"You'll be fine, Don't worry" As mum exclaims why and it would be good for me to find friends, though looks a bit unsure, due to me being surrounded by muggles. But she relented as she saw the benefit of having a normal education to be prepared.

As we drove home, I quietly thought about this, as I hope to eventually skip a grade or two. My mum and dad had a bit of a back and forth initially about me and my sisters's early education, she initially wanted homeschooling, my dad wanted and my sisters to go to public school.

After a little while, they compromised to have us 3 kids to have regular public school and while mum teaches us magical education at home after school before we go to magical school.

After that thought, we arrived home and I simply went to go read some books somewhere else…

Also, both my sisters's muggle education is a few grades above the norm due to my help and the fact they are naturally bright for their age… 😉
