The soldiers retreated as fast as they could, but this was still not fast enough for them to escape unharmed. They had to face more than a few Jade Mantis Demonic beasts before they finally crossed the boundary between the human and demonic beast territories. The demonic beasts that were chasing them did not stop just because the humans had crossed back into their supposed territory. To the beasts, this entire world was theirs, and the humans were simply pests that infested the land.
They continued giving chase, killing many human soldiers along the way. By the time Kai Syaoran and his group reached Serene Metropolis, only half of those who had managed to escape were left. The others had been cut down, eaten, or turned into blood mist by the Jade Mantis Demonic beasts. "Open the gates!" the Chosen General bellowed. His voice attracted the attention of all the guards posted on the thick grey city walls. The walls were over two hundred feet tall and almost as thick.
