Chapter 616 - Chapter 535 : Not Bounded By Fate!!

The "Blood Moon" wove a destiny that contained only cause and effect.

There was no process in between.

It simply set two points. The line that connected them, no matter how twisted or jagged, was never strictly controlled.

Every soul and body born upon this planet could become one of its pawns.

Yet not every pawn could walk the path from cause to effect.

They were like wind-up dolls, trembling forward in a single direction, only to be stopped by countless unforeseen factors before ever reaching their destination.

Only the rarest of the rare ever reached the "effect," fulfilling their fated deaths, and in the end becoming nourishment for the planet itself, hastening its maturity.

In the junk heaps of Meteor City, the "Blood Moon" casually chose a child.

This choice had nothing to do with lineage.

Nothing to do with talent.

Nothing to do with personality.

It was merely a random selection, one that alone could satisfy the requirements of "destiny's cause."

The "Blood Moon" did not care whether this child would ever reach the final "effect" of fate.

To it, he was nothing more than one piece among countless pawns.

That child's name was Germain.

He grew into adulthood, gradually stepping into the spotlight, and time and again he called upon the "Gift of Destiny."

The "Gift of Destiny" bestowed upon Germain abilities most suited to him, and those powers continued to evolve.

By the end of 1997, he had indeed undergone evolution.

But even so, this was not enough for the "Blood Moon" to spare him any attention.

Across the endless flow of time, far too many had accomplished the same.

It meant nothing.

Later, Germain rashly attempted to break into the "Wall" ahead of his time.

He failed, and was cast by the "Wall Facers" into the "Ancient Labyrinth."

This, too, was of little consequence.

No one paid true heed.

There had been far too many "chosen ones" who had shared this fate.

Most of them failed within the "Ancient Labyrinth," not even worth remembering.

If one could not even pass through that place, then they were meaningless to the design of the "Blood Moon."

But everything changed at the end of 1998.

Germain defeated the Chimera Ant King, Meruem.

Through that victory, he underwent explosive growth, and at last, gained the possibility of becoming an Apostle of God.

He shone with his own light amidst the endless darkness, and at last, the Blood Moon turned its attention toward him.

When Germain truly became the Apostle of God, the Blood Moon was certain—this man would be the final demigod to fulfill the prophecy of the Destined Death.

So, when Germain clashed with the Apostles of God under the dominion of Curse of Resentment, the Blood Moon guided his evolution.

Germain gained the Burial Blade, slaughtered the Fairy, and aided the Deep Sea in defeating Curse of Resentment.

Afterward, the Blood Moon and Darkness loosened the chains that bound Flesh, hidden deep within the western shores.

Freed, Flesh began to stir, extending its corrupted hands toward the eastern coast.

In response, Germain first struck down three of Flesh's Apostles of God, weakening its power, before engaging Flesh in a battle to the death.

In that moment, the Blood Moon grew even more certain—Germain was indeed the final demigod. The mission of the divine would be completed through him.

Thus, for a second time, the Blood Moon accelerated Germain's growth, just as it had before.

What should have taken centuries of accumulation was instead compressed into a fleeting span of time.

Though forced to mature unnaturally, Germain did not disappoint. Instead, he succeeded in slaying a god, becoming a true demigod—the Hunter.

Now, only the fated clash remained—between Hunter, the Deep Sea, and Darkness.

They would all die, reduced to nothing more than the richest of nourishment.

During this time, Germain and the Deep Sea tried to resist.

Yet they never realized that even their rebellion was still within the bounds of the Destined Death.

One demigod would perish between Germain and Darkness, while the Deep Sea would fall to the Blood Moon's hand.

As expected, everything unfolded exactly as the Blood Moon had ordained.

Now, before it stood only Germain, the Hunter. And most of the "gifts" once bestowed upon him had already been reclaimed.

Germain no longer possessed the strength to fight back.

Though he still drew his meat saw cleaver and firearm, and though the badges he carried continued to drain the last remnants of power, it was nothing more than a dying flame—an arrow shot from a broken bow.

The only thing the Blood Moon needed to do was deliver a fatal blow to Germain.

Yet within the "causality" it had laid out, there existed something strange—an anomaly it failed to notice.

At the end of 1997, Germain's Gift of Destiny suddenly evolved.

That was no coincidence.

It happened because a soul from another world had taken over this body, while the original soul had already been reduced to nothingness.

The new, stronger soul pushed the Gift of Destiny into evolution.

And from that moment on, this soul would continue to evolve—again and again, endlessly.

All of this escaped the notice of the Blood Moon.

When Germain eventually became the Apostle of God, it simply assumed this was yet another result of his Gift of Destiny.

That was the Blood Moon's first mistake—it had misjudged the root cause behind Germain's destiny.

The second mistake came when it revealed its true form and temporarily lifted the Planetary Seal, seeking to quickly annihilate Deep Sea and Hunter.

Deep Sea was indeed destroyed, and Hunter seemed to be on the verge of death.

However, the Planetary Seal was never just about preventing the creatures of this world from escaping.

It had another purpose.

The very origin of Nen lay in the influence of Outer Gods, whose power seeped into this corner of the universe.

It was this influence that had given birth to the Blood Moon, making it believe itself to be the emissary of the Outer Gods on this planet.

It served them willingly.

But after witnessing the rise of one demigod after another, it realized that, if left unchecked, their numbers would soon grow beyond control—and eventually threaten even itself.

Thus, the Planetary Seal functioned like an atmospheric shield against solar radiation, weakening and absorbing the influence of the Outer Gods.

And at this very moment, that seal had been lifted.

Germain was now fully exposed to the influence of the Outer God.

To Its shock, the man who should have been at the end of his life, his strength nearly extinguished, suddenly received a surge of power.

Germain's recovery was not only swift, but unnaturally so—his Nen was being restored at a terrifying speed.

Before It had cast the Planetary Seal, the creatures of this world could greedily absorb the radiation of the Outer Gods, growing stronger and evolving at alarming rates.

But never—never once—had there been a being whose rate of absorption matched what Germain displayed now.

It was a horrifying realization.

Even worse, the Blood Moon understood the dilemma it now faced.

If It attempted to enforce the Planetary Seal again, It would weaken Its own power, giving Germain the opening he needed.

Yet if It refrained, and allowed Germain to continue absorbing energy at this pace, that too would grant him an opportunity.

Why?

Why was this happening?

Germain's fate—his story—should have already ended here.

This was the third mistake of the Blood Moon—misjudging the outcome of Germain's "Actions."

Looking back now, Germain's battle against "Darkness" was unlike any before.

He fought without the Blood Moon's support.

And yet, Germain still won.

He defeated that most ancient of demigods, the most loyal subordinate of the Blood Moon, the very will of the earth itself.

Even so, the Blood Moon could still accept this.

If Germain were to come before him, only to die by his own hand, that too would still align with "death by destiny."

But at this very moment, the Blood Moon finally sensed something amiss.

Germain's fate… seemed to have slipped out of his grasp.

The Blood Moon considered countless possibilities, yet none could truly explain the present reality.

Until, in a sudden flash of realization—

In this world, if there existed anything that could surpass his knowledge, his imagination, and even the "gifts of destiny" themselves…

It could only be a power that came from beyond this world.
