Chapter 799 - Chapter 798: Escape

After knocking the man out, Ward glanced at him briefly before grabbing his keycard and opening the door to the back of D5.

He stepped inside, closing the door behind him, and found two elderly men, seemingly absorbed in some kind of calculation.

One of the men looked up at Ward briefly before continuing with his work.

Skye's voice came through, "So, what now? Are you supposed to take someone?"

Ward scanned the room, noticing a blackboard covered in complex data that he couldn't understand.

He took a moment to take in everything, and the data was automatically transmitted to Skye and Amador's handler.

Ward's glasses then displayed another mission update.

"Mission complete. Good luck."

In the control room, May used the third channel to relay information to Coulson, "They sent another message. Coulson, he's close, just a few blocks away, near Victory Square."

"One more message and we'll have his exact location."

Hearing this, Coulson sprinted toward Victory Square.

Meanwhile, Ward had exited the room, spotting a countdown on a nearby computer screen showing ten seconds remaining, along with a password prompt.

Realizing the situation, Ward said, "I know what we needed the guard for—his password."

Skye, watching the footage from Ward's glasses, responded, "Maybe I can help you hack in, give me a minute."

But as the final second ticked down, alarms blared throughout the building. Ward sighed, "No time."

He quickly grabbed the downed guard's sidearm and dashed toward the exit, calling out, "Meet me at the south side of the building. The sooner, the better."

"Got it," Skye replied.

Closing her laptop, she looked at Killer Bee and asked, "Can you drive?"

After a brief pause, she added, "Never mind, I'll do it."

Skye hopped into the driver's seat, muttering to herself, "Which way is south?"

Killer Bee pointed in a direction, "That way is south."

Skye immediately started the car and drove off in the direction he indicated.

Inside the building-

Ward kept his head low and walked quickly. However, one of the security guards emerged, following instructions from his earpiece and instantly zeroing in on Ward, giving chase.

Realizing he'd been spotted, Ward bolted down the hallway, narrowly dodging gunfire as he turned a corner.

Meanwhile-

Simmons had successfully removed Amador's mechanical eye, but there were still wires connected to it.

"Looks like we'll need Fitz for this part. These wires are more his specialty," she said.

"Fitz!"

Fitz hurried over and took the tools from Simmons' hands.

"Alright, the power source and the kill switch should both be inside the eye."

"So, how do we disable it without triggering the switch?"

"I think I've got an idea. I just need to figure out one thing…"

Meanwhile-

Ward was carefully making his escape. Using the X-ray function on his glasses, he managed to take down the security guards in the room before they even realized he was there.

"Ward," Fitz's voice crackled through the comms.

"What is it?" Ward asked, breathing heavily as he continued to evade the guards.

"You sound out of breath. Is this a bad time?" Fitz asked, his voice laced with concern.

"A bit," Ward responded, ducking behind cover while speaking.

Fitz quickly added, "I've got my own problem here. I'm holding a fake eye that's still connected by wires, and it could explode any second."

Ward asked, "Are the wires exposed or concealed?"

Just as he asked, Ward emerged from his hiding spot and spotted his reflection in a mirror, realizing he had been seen.

"Cut the wire—now!" Ward shouted, making a break for the exit.

At the same moment, Amador's handler saw Ward's image through the camera in her mechanical eye.

Realizing their cover was blown, the handler frantically began typing in the password to activate the kill switch.

In the lab, May noticed Fitz's tension.

"What's going on?" she asked.

Fitz quickly shook his head, trying to stay calm. "Nothing. Ward just explained how to cut the wire."

As the handler pressed the enter key to trigger the fatal device, Fitz cut the wire just in time, throwing the fake eye into a prepared bomb-proof container.

Simmons slammed the lid shut.

"Boom."

A small explosion went off inside the sealed container. When Simmons opened the lid, a puff of smoke wafted out, signaling that the immediate danger was over.

By this time, Ward had made it to the south side of the building and contacted Skye. "I'm here, come get me."

Confused, Skye responded, "I don't know what that means."

Suddenly, security personnel arrived, firing multiple shots at Ward.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

None of the shots hit Ward, who quickly returned fire, shattering a window with three shots before jumping through it.

Fortunately, it was only the third floor, and Ward landed on the second-floor ledge, using a stack of shipping containers to make his way down.

As soon as he jumped off the last container, Skye's car nearly ran him over as she arrived just in time.

The close call left Ward covered in cold sweat, but Skye managed to slam on the brakes just in time.

Ward opened the passenger door, sliding in. "Let's go."

Skye hit the gas, speeding off toward the airport.
