I opened my eyes and kept watch over Noel. What an odd man. He flustered me so much with that half naked body of his. I turned away at the thought. He seemed strong and capable, but there was a sadness in him, a loneliness that mirrored my own. We were two lost souls adrift in a vast, unforgiving world.
I found myself wanting to know more about him. What was his story? What had he seen? What had he lost?
I watched him as he slept, his chest rising and falling in a steady rhythm. He looked so peaceful, so vulnerable. I reached out to touch his face, but I stopped myself, my hand hovering in the air. What was I doing? This was madness.
I pulled my hand back and turned away, my cheeks burning. I had never felt this way before, not even with the men of my clan. There was something about him, something that drew me in, that made me want to lower my guard, to let him see the real me.
