(Jason's POV)

"I'm willing to cooperate," Brandish told me

I raised an eyebrow, "What changed your mind?" I asked

I was standing in front of the barrier as Brandish was still sitting on the bed. I had come to see what she wanted to speak about. She had been held prisoner by us for a while, I wonder if she's changed her mind. Turns out she has.

I can't be too careful, however.

She looked up at me, "I've done a lot of thinking." She said, "My personal feelings aside, I don't think this War is worth it."

"So I'm right, is what you're trying to say?" I said with my arms crossed

She nodded, "Yea." She continued, "If you let me go and take me to one of my peers, we can work something out."

"Jason." I heard a voice say behind me

I glanced behind me and saw that both Mavis and Kagura were standing behind me. Mavis was the one that spoke up, she had a serious frown on her face. It was like she didn't trust what Brandish was saying.

"Yea?" I said

"I don't know if that's a good idea." Mavis said, "We don't know if we can trust her."

I nodded, "You're right." I said before looking back at Brandish, "I know you won't easily betray your country. Who's the Shield you'll try to talk to?"

"August." She said, "He's the calmest and gentlest of us 12."

"Him? Please." I scoffed, "You're talking about Zeref's most loyal Shield. He'll die for the bastard if he wanted him to. There's no way he'll listen to you."

Brandish scowled, "You act like you know more about my peers than I do." She said

I nodded, "Maybe." I told her, "I know a lot of things. I know that out of all of you Shields, August is the last person you could reason with when it comes to betraying Zeref. Trust me, you'll be speaking to a wall."

She stood up from the bed and walked over to the edge of the cell, standing right in front of the barrier.

"You think I want to be here? Held prisoner?" She said, "I don't want to rot in this place. I'm telling you that I'll cooperate with you. The least you could do is hear me out."

"I am." I said with a frown, "You're lucky I don't throw you into the Void Prison again. The leniency I have for you is insane. I've fed you, given you a fresh set of clothes, and kept you warm. But there's one thing I won't do: Trust you completely. I know I've tried to convince you, but I don't know. Something's a bit off. You still know something."

"I know your son was taken." She said, "I overheard Lucy and the pink-haired brat talk."

"Jason." Kagura spoke up

I raised my hand, telling her not to say anything else.

I narrowed my eyes at Brandish, "What are you trying to say with that?" I said, "What does knowing my son was taken have to do with anything?"

"If you think speaking with August is pointless, then I suggest speaking to Irene." She said

"Her? Please." I scoffed again, "You're talking about the two fiercest Shields that you guys have. There's no speaking with her, I tried."

"You have." She said, "But I can speak to her. Trust me, She and I have a pre-existent relationship. Both Dimaria and I."

I wonder what she means by that. I don't know anything about Irene having some sort of relationship with Brandish and Dimaria. The way most Shields react to either her or August is either respect or fear.

"Hm." I said, "Interesting."

"Jason, we have to talk." Mavis spoke up

She grabbed my hand and pulled it, dragging me alongside her as she walked towards the door. Kagura followed us as we walked out towards the hallways.

I watched as Mavis closed the door as all three of us were outside. She then turned around and gave me a serious look.

"Negotiating with her?" She asked, "Are you a fool?"

I tilted my head, "What's wrong with having a little chat?" I asked, "I wanted to hear her out. Don't worry, I don't fully trust her. She's dangerous. Letting her free right away will prove fatal for us. She can destroy this whole ship with ease. I mean, I don't think I have a counter to her Command T...Felicity?"

"Sir. I've been analyzing her magic signature from the moment she's been inside. It's tougher than it sounds to create a counter for her magic. I believe the only one that's fully immune to it is you." Felicity's voice was heard through a speaker above us, "I apologize."

"See?" I said to Mavis, "I won't let her go so easily."

Kagura looked at us, "What does she mean about her and Irene?" She asked me

I shrugged, "I don't know." I said, "Maybe some sort of Mentor/Protege stuff? I mean, they're the only female Shields in the army, so there's that."

"Still." Mavis said, "There's no way I'll let you be emotionally manipulated. The way she's using your son to get to you, it's unnerving."

I nodded, "Relax." I said, "I'm not an idiot. I'll get Erion back, but I won't do it with her help. I don't know what she was trying to get at from that."

"You have something in mind then?" Kagura asked me, "Lucy said that you mentioned a plan that'll use her. I mean, before your fight with Acnologia."

I crossed my arms, "Yea." I said, "There's something in mind. But it's all going to depend on chance. Let's see how it plays out...."

Mavis raised an eyebrow, "Don't do anything stupid." She said

I sighed, "Trust me, I know what I'm doing." I said, "Anyways. The Northern Army. We need to vanquish them at once."

"We still have a War to win."
