Clop, clop, clop...
At this moment, Kerrac, his son, and a knight brigade of over 1,300 men were advancing toward Liberty City.
Ever since the First Prince found an excuse to transfer him away from the capital, Kerrac had been hatching many plans in his heart.
In just a few short days, he had assembled over 1,300 knights. Subsequently, he left the capital and headed toward the Western Region. After spending over a month traveling, he had finally arrived at Liberty City, the dividing point of the Western Region.
"Father, according to the intelligence we've gathered over the past few days, it's said that this Liberty City has already been taken by Lucas," Tove said.
"Oh? Liberty City belongs to Lucas now?" Kerrac asked in surprise.
He immediately understood that the intelligence provided by the First Prince was inaccurate; Liberty City had actually been taken by Lucas!
"Father, what do we do now? Do we charge straight in?" Tove asked, patting the sword at his waist.
"No, we cannot afford to deplete our precious combat strength in Liberty City," Kerrac waved his hand. He still needed to guard against the First Prince turning against him in the future.
"To get to Sedona City, we have to pass through Liberty City. If we don't fight our way in, what else can we do?" Tove asked curiously.
"What other intelligence haven't you mentioned?" A faint smile hooked the corner of Kerrac's mouth.
"Right, Lucas dispatched a knight captain to garrison Liberty City. I think his name is... Aiden," Tove thought for a good while before finally remembering the name.
"Oh? He only sent one knight captain to guard it? Then how many knights are inside Liberty City?" Kerrac asked, stroking his beard as his eyes flickered.
"There seems to be over seven hundred knights in the city," Tove said softly.
"Since Lucas is so fond of abducting other people's daughters, let's make a deal with him," Kerrac said with a chuckle.
"Father, you're going to use Lucy..." Before Tove could finish his sentence, he was cut off by Kerrac.
"Let's go. Tell the troops to pick up the pace and reach the vicinity of Liberty City before dark," Kerrac ordered. Some things were better left unsaid.
"Yes," Tove replied respectfully.
Clop, clop, clop...
The brigade advanced for another twenty minutes before arriving outside a forest a little over five kilometers away from Liberty City.
"Tove, make the arrangements. Find a suitable place nearby to set up camp," Kerrac instructed.
He turned his head to survey the surrounding environment, thinking to himself that the trees here were tall and offered good concealment—an excellent place to make camp.
"Father, Liberty City is just a few kilometers ahead. Why don't we just keep moving forward?" Tove asked in confusion.
"It's getting dark soon. By the time we reach Liberty City, it will be pitch black, making it very easy for the enemy to launch a surprise attack," Kerrac said in annoyance. This son of mine still has many areas where he is lacking.
"Yes," Tove complied respectfully and went to arrange the campsite.
The brigade then set up camp and started fires nearby. Some knights were boiling porridge, while others were roasting wild rabbit meat they had hunted near the forest.
"I wonder if Liberty City has any beautiful women."
"I don't know about Liberty City, but I've heard that there are many stunning beastkin women in Sedona City."
"Is that so? Then I want two."
"Aren't you being a bit too greedy?"
"..."
The knights were all discussing their future lives, most of which inevitably revolved around beautiful women. They more or less knew some intelligence regarding Sedona City as well.
After a long day of traveling, everyone aside from the night patrol knights soon fell asleep with fantasies in their heads.
Neigh...
The next morning, amidst the neighing of warhorses, Duke Kerrac and his men were already packed and ready to go.
"Move out! Head for Liberty City!" Tove shouted, before pulling his head back into his carriage.
"Yes!" The knights responded in unison.
"Is everything in order?" Kerrac asked, the dark circles under his eyes looking somewhat severe...
He hadn't slept well the entire night, his mind filled with all sorts of scenarios of him crowning himself king in the future.
"Yes, Father. We will reach Liberty City around noon," Tove said, letting out a yawn. It seemed he hadn't slept well last night either, though only he knew what he had been thinking about.
Clop, clop, clop...
Taking the packing time into account, Duke Kerrac's group arrived and stopped outside Liberty City around noon.
"Father, Liberty City is right ahead," Tove said, pointing at the city before them.
"Go call out to them. I want to talk to their knight captain," Kerrac's pupils flickered.
"Yes," Tove complied and rode forward.
"Who goes there?" Before Tove could even get close, the knights on the city walls drew their bows and aimed their arrows squarely at him in unison.
Tove looked up at the row of bows and arrows on the wall and couldn't help but take a half-step back. He turned his head to glance at the brigade behind him, then shouted with feigned calm, "Our Grand Duke Kerrac wishes to speak with your knight captain!"
"Grand Duke Kerrac? Never heard of him," The gate guard knight replied coldly. They only recognized Lord Lucas.
What? To think they don't even know who Grand Duke Kerrac is. The Western Region really is a remote backwater. Tove was furious, but he didn't dare voice his thoughts aloud for fear of being shot down by the arrows above.
"Just go and report it! Your Lord will know!" Tove shouted loudly.
"Wait here," The soldier replied casually.
In reality, Aiden was also on the city wall, standing right behind the soldiers. He simply didn't want to meet with the other party for the time being. Defending a city was relatively easy; it would be best if the enemy decided to lay siege.
He had received Lucas's orders a few days ago, instructing him to guard the city well and to seize the opportunity to launch a sortie and take the enemy down if a chance presented itself.
Moreover, the scouts of Liberty City had discovered Kerrac's brigade days ago, and they had long since made preparations to face the enemy.
