In the study of Sedona Castle, Lucas was looking at the design blueprints in his hand. Sitting at the desk beside him was the cat-eared girl. She was eating pudding, her eyes curiously staring at the strange-looking object on the blueprint.
Mina remembered that there seemed to be something resembling the object in the blueprint inside the inner storehouse. The master had been staring at the blueprint for over half an hour, occasionally muttering something to himself.
"Master, have some pudding." Mina scooped a large spoonful and offered it to his lips.
"Mmm!" Lucas opened his mouth and took the bite, setting down the pen in his hand before releasing the spoon.
He looked at the bowl in the cat-eared girl's hands; there wasn't much pudding left. He said softly, "You can have my portion of the pudding, just don't tell Annie."
Pudding was a new dessert that Nicole had developed; or rather, it was something she could only make after they had the freezers.
Knowing that the beast-eared girls were quite gluttonous, he had set a rule restricting how much cold food each person could eat per day. He didn't want the girls giving themselves stomachaches.
"No need, the master should eat it." Mina quickly shook her head.
"If you don't want it, I'll give it to Annie then," Lucas said with a smile.
"I want it!" Mina cried out, slightly lifting her perky bottom. That gluttonous fox girl Annie would undoubtedly flaunt it in front of her if she got it.
"Hahahaha..." Lucas laughed joyfully. Teasing the cat-eared girl managed to chase away more than half of his worries.
"Master, what were you researching just now?" Mina rolled her eyes enchantingly.
"..." Lucas was momentarily stunned, feeling that the cat-eared girl was becoming increasingly sexy. He thought to himself that he would have to thoroughly bully Mina tonight.
He looked down at the blueprints and said helplessly, "I'm thinking about a mode of transportation suitable for Sedona City's future."
"Huh? What is a mode of transportation?" Mina was bewildered; this was yet another new vocabulary term.
"It's a tool used for transporting things, like a carriage," Lucas explained casually.
"Then what is the master worrying about? Do we not have enough carriages? I remember Sedona City has hundreds of carriages." Mina still didn't quite understand.
"We have enough carriages, but they are far too slow," Lucas said evenly.
He had already modified their carriages into four-wheeled wagons. With the load distributed across four wheels and the implementation of bearings, it saved the horses more than half their effort. However, a horse was still just a horse; no matter how fast it ran, there was a limit.
"Too slow?" Mina was even more confused. She hesitated and asked, "Master, do you want to open up hot air balloon transportation?"
"No, hot air balloons are still too dangerous," Lucas shook his head again.
Since they began using hot air balloons, there have already been two or three accidents. If they hadn't been equipped with parachutes, there likely would have been casualties.
"Then... is the object on this blueprint the new transportation tool the master mentioned?" Mina immediately caught on.
"Mm, a bicycle. It's a vehicle that a single person can ride, and it's even faster than a horse." Lucas nodded, his expression somewhat complicated.
His future roads would be built with cement. With bicycles, travel speed could easily surpass that of horses. Once bicycles were available between cities, their connections would become much tighter.
Once there were roads, there needed to be fast-moving vehicles. Bicycles were what Lucas had in mind, and they were something that could be manufactured in this era.
Of course, some equipment still needed to be brought over from Earth by Lucas, such as manual lathes. These were incredibly important and crucial for forging certain parts.
Once they had a lathe, they could produce parts, which would allow them to replicate a second manual lathe, then a third... This was how he planned to achieve an industrial leap using existing tools, directly allowing the people of this era to skip the invention and initial manufacturing stages of lathes.
"Are there any hurdles with this bicycle?" Mina asked softly.
She stood up and went to the corner of the study, where a freezer sat. Opening it, she took out several large blocks of ice and placed them in a basin under the desk to lower the room's temperature.
"Mm, we lack the most important material." Looking down at Mina crouching under the desk, Lucas couldn't help but reach out and pinch the cat-eared girl's ear.
"Mmm?" Mina's body trembled slightly. Having her sensitive ears pinched made her feel a bit weak. She looked up and called out with a trembling voice, "Master~"
"Get up." Lucas released his hand. He didn't want Annie and Nicole to return and stumble upon them, thinking he was doing something indecent.
Her cheeks flushed red, Mina nimbly slipped up from between Lucas's legs, wrapped her arms around his neck, and leaned in for a kiss.
"Mmm!" Lucas wrapped his arms around the cat-eared girl's waist and pulled her onto his lap.
Pant, pant... Mina gasped for air, her face red as she whispered, "Tonight, my... my time of the month is over."
Lately, she had either been too busy or dealing with her period, so it had been many days since she last slept with Lucas. For the past few days, Nicole had been the one keeping Lucas company.
"Hah!" Lucas couldn't help but laugh. He lowered his head and pecked the cat-eared girl on the lips. He understood what Mina meant; she missed him.
"It's so hot!"
A crisp voice rang out from outside the study. Mina hurriedly stood up from Lucas's lap, recognizing it as Annie's voice.
Creak!
The study door was pushed open, and Annie and Nicole walked in.
"It's so hot, I want to eat pudding." The first thing Annie did upon entering was run to the freezer and pull out a palm-sized bowl.
"How is it? Is the Ice Workshop's popsicle production sufficient?" Lucas pursed his lips and handed a glass of water to Nicole.
"It's still not quite enough." Nicole took the glass and began drinking in large gulps; she had gone to inspect the Ice Workshop today.
"Master, there's still too little saltpeter," Annie mumbled vaguely while scooping pudding with her spoon. "I already spoke with Nancy and the others, telling them to send over several times the amount of saltpeter."
She had just gone to see off Nancy, Obi, and the rest, primarily to allocate wheat and linen for their group.
"Ayesha didn't say anything, did she?" Lucas asked gently. For the mission to escort the immigrants to Bella's territory this time, he had chosen the cow-horned girl once again.
"Hehe... Ayesha was dragging her feet and refusing to leave, just hoping you would go see her off, master," Annie giggled, recalling how the cow-horned girl had turned back to look three times with every step before she left.
"I'll give her some compensation when she gets back next time," Lucas grinned. He had genuinely forgotten to go see her off. Ayesha must have been a bit moody about having to leave again right after returning.
"Ayesha obviously just couldn't bear to part with the popsicles and pudding," Nicole said, exposing the real reason for Ayesha's reluctance.
"Hehe..." Mina covered her mouth and chuckled lightly.
