Chapter 58 - Chapter 58. Standing on the Sidelines

"We might seem a bit irresponsible, leaving all the work to Rina...", Yara said in a muffled voice, noticing that Lucy didn't seem inclined to leave her embrace anytime soon, even after two minutes of silence, each warm exhale against her neck eroding another fraction of her reason.

On top of that, Lucy began to tease her neck with the tip of her tongue; at first, Yara thought she might have imagined it, but after feeling the same moist sensation on her neck twice more, she was certain Lucy was up to no good. But wasn't it an inappropriate moment for something like that? Maybe the fact that they had just finished torturing the marquis's subordinates could be ignored, but a swarm of beasts had started to gather around, drawn by the screams and the scent of blood. The only reason they hadn't yet attacked was Rina's intervention, who had finished beating the marquis's son before they'd completed interrogating the others and had started eliminating the approaching beasts to give them time to finish their business in peace.

"I'm not worried about that... Rina would most likely be happy if we left all the beasts to her. From what she told me, since the beast population near her village has decreased quite a bit lately, it's become increasingly difficult for her to level up...", Lucy reassured Yara, staying in the same position, her lips occasionally brushing, more or less accidentally, against her neck.

It wasn't that Lucy was in the mood for mischief, but rather that she was highly aroused at that moment as Yara's embrace had rekindled urges she'd barely managed to suppress after their recent kisses. Besides, seeing dead or seriously injured people only seemed to intensify her desire for intimacy. Since Lucy couldn't recall having this trait in her past life, she suspected her new animal instincts might be the cause, with the awareness of danger prompting her to reproduce quickly, as though to ensure her genes would survive if she didn't. Or something along those lines, as Lucy wasn't an expert on animal behavior and only knew bits from the few nature documentaries she'd seen.

Still, Yara's words managed to make Lucy more aware of what was happening around them, and she noticed that the number of beasts in their vicinity had increased significantly in the last few minutes. Growing anxious at the thought that Rina might encounter trouble if particularly powerful beasts were among them, Lucy managed to break away from Yara, intending to use her ocular powers to gauge their levels and determine if Rina could handle them.

'Better to be patient for a bit than regret it later if Rina gets hurt. But it's not as if I'll have to wait long; if I don't spot any beasts that might cause Rina trouble, I don't see why I couldn't have some fun with Yara until she finishes off all the beasts and joins us. And if there happen to be beasts too strong for Rina, we'll just go and handle them together – it shouldn't take us more than a minute to finish them off, and then we can all have a good time. Anyway, this cat has been left unfed for long enough...', Lucy thought to herself, feeling that now that they had successfully captured those who came after the lionkins, she deserved a reward.

"This skill of yours, that changes how your eyes look, what does it allow you to see?", Yara asked, curious about Lucy's eyes ever since she first saw them. She had known people with skills that allowed them to see things usually hidden from view, but she had never met anyone whose eyes underwent such a transformation when enhanced by a skill; most kept the same eyes, with only a slight glow in rare cases. So Yara expected Lucy to possess some truly impressive ocular abilities.

"What can my eyes see?", Lucy repeated Yara's question, turning to look at her and then beginning to scan her body with the seriousness of a doctor. "Well, right now, I can see what you'd look like without clothes...", she continued after a moment, with a satisfied expression, as if she'd just pulled off a great prank.

"Very funny, Lucy...", Yara rolled her eyes, thinking Lucy was just trying to tease her. "Now seriously, what does this skill do?", she asked again, slightly irritated as Lucy began laughing uncontrollably, not understanding what was so amusing about her reaction. It wasn't as if she had panicked at her words and hastily covered her private areas with her hands, like some delicate girl caught off-guard by sudden rain in thin clothes.

"Ha, ha... I don't think you understand why this is such a funny situation. The reason is that what I said is true... I can actually see through clothes...", Lucy explained to Yara between giggles, laughing uncontrollably once again as she saw Yara's stunned expression when she realized the implications of her words.

"...So... you mean to say that right now you see me as if I'm not wearing clothes?", Yara wasn't sure how to react, finding herself in an extremely confusing situation. Normally, she'd be furious at the thought of someone seeing her completely undressed, but since the culprit was her own girlfriend, she didn't know if she should make a big deal of it. Yara also couldn't decide whether to hide herself from Lucy's gaze, though she felt a sense of embarrassment, struggling to get used to the idea of being seen unclothed out in the open. But wasn't it already too late for that? Lucy had had more than enough time to see whatever she wanted. Besides, acting shy would ruin the image of a dangerous woman she wanted to maintain in front of her girlfriends. In that case, did she still have any chance of dominating them in bed?

"Anyway, I only looked through the first layer of clothing, so I saw you in your underwear...", replied Lucy, who hadn't completely forgotten her sense of civility, her words bringing Yara a sigh of relief, as it resolved her dilemma.

But remembering that during their fight, Lucy had kept the skill that enhanced her vision active the whole time, Yara shot her a suspicious look. Didn't that mean Lucy could have seen her naked whenever she wanted? Since they'd been enemies at that moment, she doubted Lucy would have felt guilty about it.

"What's wrong?", Lucy was puzzled by Yara's sudden change in mood.

"If that skill only lets you see through objects, why did you use it when you were fighting me? We were in a pretty open area, weren't we?", Yara asked accusingly; Lucy would have to be completely oblivious not to realize what she was implying.

"Um, to check if you had any secret weapons?", Lucy was about to joke a bit more but, seeing that Yara was getting more and more annoyed, she started explaining that she had multiple ocular abilities, including level-reading, which she planned to use at that moment to assess the strength of Rina's opponents.

"So, you've never used this ability on me?", Yara still couldn't believe that Lucy hadn't given in to the temptation to see more of her skin than what was normally visible. After all, wasn't she irresistible? Well, it could be said that Yara herself didn't know what she wanted; whether Lucy had spied on her or had respected her privacy, she would still be dissatisfied either way.

"I only tried it once, just to see through the material covering your face... but it didn't work..." Lucy admitted, beginning to assess the nearby beasts to escape a conversation that was no longer to her advantage. Fortunately for her, this answer satisfied Yara, as it showed that Lucy had been interested in her from the start but respected her enough to only try to see her face, Thus, Yara decided to drop the subject.

"Still, I didn't expect you to be wearing pink underwear...", Lucy couldn't help but mention what had been on her mind since the first moment she saw what was under Yara's clothes, earning herself a strong squeeze of her tail.
