Chapter 39 - Ch.39

(Logan POV)

At night we sneaked toward the compound wearing masks, and I put on my old skull mask. Then I scaled the wall and dropped the rope down for Butcher to climb too. After he made it to the top I scaled down the wall using the rope and we dropped down. I looked around and saw no cameras, so we hid the rope the best we could.

I then signaled to Butcher to start following me as we snuck toward the center of this compound which now looked like a miniature town. We slowly made our way through with our pistols that had attached silencers ready. Finally, we arrived outside the house Butcher recognized as Becca's the last time he was here.

"Oi, let me get into her car. You can knock on the door and leave her car door open so we can lure her to it. Then we can get the fuck outta here," Butcher says to me with a whispered voice seeing no one nearby.

"Fine," I say, then we crouch and run across the street to her SUV parked in the driveway.

Butcher lock picks his way into the SUV without setting the alarm off thankfully. Then he climbs into the rear seats, leaving the front door open. I sneak over to the front door and knock on it, before rushing back to the SUV and climbing into the very back. A few seconds later we hear someone walk outside, then to the SUV.

"Any place around here without a million bloody cameras?" I hear Butcher say before I can verify it is Becca.

I then hear the woman's breathing quicken before rummaging around in the front seat. I hear her walk to the driveway camera and peek to see her showing the camera her cigarettes and lighter, suggesting she is going out for a smoke. Then she walks back to the SUV and gets into the driver seat, we all drive silently for a few minutes before the SUV comes to a stop. I hear the woman get out of the SUV and open the door for Butcher to get out too.

Before I can get out or say anything the two stare at one another for a few seconds before she jumps into his arms for a hug. Then they share a long passionate kiss showing how much each misses the other.

"Uhm… right my mate is in the back too," Butcher says breaking the kiss as the woman's eyes widen seeing me awkwardly wave to her from the back.

"Hey," I say as she quickly walks to the back of the SUV and opens it for me to get out.

"Listen, I have to go back since they will be suspicious if I'm gone too long, but I will come back right away," Beccas says to Butcher after I get out of the SUV.

"Right… ok, we'll wait here," Butcher says as she nods getting back into the SUV and driving back.

"So, how are we getting her and the kid out?" I say to him after she drives off.

"What?" Butcher says confused for a second.

"Wait… don't tell me you didn't plan on taking the kid too," I say to him narrowing my eyes as he opens his mouth before closing it.

"Butcher you dumb fuck, you know she won't leave her son behind. Shit man, she left to go into hiding after hiding him, leaving her whole life behind. No offense, but what makes you think she'd leave him now?" I say to him as he glares at me.

"I didn't think that far… Hell, I didn't think we'd get this far anyway. But I'm sure we can get the kid outta here," Butcher says with an annoyed growl.

"Butcher… You need to think, really think about whether you want this or not. Because she won't leave her son, not even for you. So, if you don't learn to accept that fact, then Becca will never be in your life again," I say to him seeing that Becca went this far for her son, I can only imagine just what she would do to keep him safe.

"Fuck… you're right… I… I'm not sure," Butcher says now leaning on the wooden bridge edge we are at.

"Even if we leave… Homelander will go looking for his son and it is only a matter of time before he finds him and you both. So it might be best for you both to catch up tonight and then we can make a better plan later to get them out," I say to him putting my hand on his shoulder.

"If they don't get out now, who knows what Homelander will do to them," Butcher says with venom in his voice talking about Homelander.

"Then what do you want to do?" I say to him since this is his wife and her son, so ultimately it is up to him for how we proceed.

Butcher just stands there in silence for a few moments. But before he can speak we hear a car approaching, so we duck behind the pillars. Then we see that it is Becca's SUV and we step back out. She pulls up and gets out immediately rushing over to Butcher pulling him back into a hug.

"I'll let you two, uh, catch up," I say and walk off a few dozen yards while making sure there are no guards or cameras in the vicinity.

After seeing the area is quiet, I pull out some of the cigarettes I stuffed into my pockets earlier. I then light up one before sitting down and looking up at the stars, pretending I don't hear the two quickly start tearing each other's clothes off.

"Damn, I miss Maggie," I say out loud quietly, surprising myself with the sudden feeling of not seeing her in a while.

'I should call her soon and talk… I don't think I want to just be friends,' I think to myself as I smoke through the whole pack by the time the two love birds stop.

I then walk back seeing them in the back of the SUV wearing their clothes again and smoking cigarettes. I let out a small cough to let them know of my presence as they both turned to see me, Becca looked slightly embarrassed being caught.

"So… what are we doing next?" I ask as Butcher looks at Becca with a longing look, before turning back to me.

"If we take them, how long before Homelander finds out where we are? And do you think you could kill him this time?" Butcher says to me with a serious look we know I injured him badly since I saw the wound on his arm before he kicked me.

"At best… a few weeks maybe a month or two. At worst, in a few hours… As for me killing him, depends if I have the chance to decapitate him or take out his heart. He is stronger and faster than me, so I would need help from some others to give me the chance to land a killing blow," I say to Butcher giving my honest opinion of the situation.

"Becca… we can get you outta here, you and Ryan both. Is that what you want?" Butcher says turning to her after hearing my response. Becca remains sitting there now with a thoughtful look on her face.

(Queen Maeve POV)

It was a few days after the 'terrorist' attack, with Homelander and I going on an interview with one of the more famous talk show hosts. There seemed to be something bothering Homelander, but I was not a hundred percent sure what it was. I can only guess, but each guess makes me very worried about what it could be.

"Is the supervillain threat real?" the hostess asks us as we sit on the couch with her in her armchair.

"One hundred percent. Very real," Homelander says to her as I nod my head absentmindedly agreeing with him.

"But the Seven will protect you," I say with a faked smile after agreeing with Homelander.

"That's right, right. Always listen to Maeve. She always tells the truth," Homelander says and I can hear the sarcasm in his voice which the others can't pick up on. I turn to look at Homelander for a second feeling nervous on the inside but keeping my heart rate steady to not give away my nervousness.

"And we're grateful every day. On a related subject, Compound V. Did either of you know about it before the news broke?" the hostess continues as Homelander doesn't look at me, but I can see his eyes show hidden anger.

"No. Absolutely not. Madelyn Stillwell, she lied to all of us. Turns out she was a monster. We're–we're just as hurt and upset and confused as everyone else," Homelander says to her with his faked hurt face.

"Let's talk #HeroesSoWhite. The numbers are rather startling. Ninety-two percent of heroes are Caucasian. African American, six percent. Latin and Asian each one percent. Why doesn't Vought want diversity?" the hostess says as I see in my side eye Homelander is holding back his anger which is spiking at her 'accusations'.

"Wow. These are real hardballs, Maria Menounos… But check your facts. Let's uh, take the Seven, for example. We've got A-Train. He's a black man. We got Black Noir. He, um… Well, he doesn't identify with any race, really, so… they're covered. And… we have a BI hero," Homelander says and I immediately know he is about to expose me for my past relationships with other women.

"Who in the Seven is BI?" the hostess says with an interested look.

"Queen Maeve. Mm-hmm, Scoop for you, Maria," Homelander says while gesturing to me as I hold back an eye twitch.

"Maeve here is a strong proud Bisexual. And I, for one, am so proud of her," Homelander says as the interview continues now, but probing questions to me to which I give vague answers to.

"Why? Just why?" I say to Homelander confronting him as we walk out of the studio.

"Why… why… I wonder Maeve, maybe it is because you've been sneaking off in your limited free time to meet with this unknown person. Who I've smelled on you, what is most interesting is the fact that it took me this long to figure out what is so similar to this smell… The same one I smelled on Black Noir's corpse," Homelander says turning to me with a threatening voice.

"You've been fucking the person who killed Black Noir and now we are stuck with some jackass pretending to be him," Homelander says with a growl and walks toward me threateningly while I back up into the wall.

"So, STOP FUCKING LYING TO ME!!... I am at my WIT'S fucking end with the lies… So tell me who it is… now," Homelander says to me with the eyes that scream he is ready to kill me.

"I… his name is Logan," I say as my fear takes over and I immediately feel immense regret after saying his name.

"His… Logan… the last name?" Homelander says while nodding his head.

"I don't know. I really don't," I say since Logan never told me and at this point, I refuse to say more.

"Sure, you don't… Let's go home and we can talk more about this name," Homelander says with a hand on my shoulder which he squeezes hard enough to make me wince.
