Chapter 175 - Conflict between 'comrades'

Slsh!

Lunan ducked, his knees dropping to the floor. The sword cut through three trees that stood tall behind him, those trees falling to the ground with a loud crash.

Crsh!

Soldiers from the tavern probably heard the boom or felt the sudden shaking. But, they were way too wasted to care.

"Nueluth, wait, you have to think about this!"

"I don't have to think about shit!" she yelled, lunging toward him.

She thrust her sword toward Lunan.

Lunan narrowly dodged the thrust, evading backward.

[Cast: Flashstep]

The space that he tried to create was destroyed in mere seconds, as she moved swiftly and flawlessly through the leaf-scattered terrain.

[Cast: Scent Slash Ablaze]

Her blade ignited into flames, swinging her sword once at Lunan. The flames left the sword, shooting toward Lunan.

Bsh!

The flames came into direct contact with his chest, burning his white shirt, and scarring the tissue of his skin.

"Gyaa!"

He felt pain, but he knew he could not stop running.

Nueluth was deadset on killing him. And nothing would stop her. So he ran.

⏤ If it gets to that point... will I have to..? No, let me not think about it. She's just out of her mind right now.

In front of Lunan, was a large boulder, deeply rooted into the ground. Wasting no time, he kicked through the boulder, shattering it into several fragments of rock.

[Spirit Cast: Replacement]

A large number of the rocks, but not all of them, turned into dust. The dust obscured Nueluth's vision, entering her eyes.

"Damn it!" she yelled out.

Tightly, she closed her eyes. She could faintly trace the mana signature of Lunan, and using that tip, she continued following him.

Turning around for a second and seeing that his plan did not work, he continued running.

The thickly wooded forest was full of turns and cuts that Lunan had to take. While he narrowly avoided each tree, twisting and turning, Nueluth took a more aggressive approach.

She slashed and bashed through tree trunks, leaving leaves and woodchips scattered in the air.

Lunan quickly turned around.

[Spirit Cast: Replacement]

The woodchips and leaves suddenly disappeared, being replaced with shards of rocks, that flew toward Nueluth.

Rocks had no mana signature.

She opened her reddened eyes, to see what exactly was coming toward her.

"Haah!"

She sliced, fervently, splitting the rocks in half and sending them behind her. Amidst her motion, she swung the sword up into the air, preparing for a final cut of the rock ahead of her.

[Spirit Cast: Replacement]

The rock turned into a smoke bomb. Understanding Lunan's ability to an extent, and predicting that this was a trick, she did not start her swinging motion, watching as the smoke bomb created a dull thud at her chest.

Bsh!

With the opening that he had created, her holding her sword down, he threw a clean punch at her jaw.

However, she barely budged.

She stared at Lunan. Lunan stared back.

Slsh!

She swung her sword at his neck, intending to decapitate him.

He dodged the quick swing by an inch, narrowly avoiding the strike by just a hair. Quickly, he retreated backward.

She didn't stop at a single swing, though.

[Cast: Ember Fang Dance]

Her sword ignited into bright, thick flames, the heat being felt even a meter away, the distance that Lunan was.

Her swordsmanship was unique. Careful. Flawless, and precise. The type of swordsmanship that took years to hone, and master. The type of swordsmanship you couldn't see in just any battle.

She swung.

Fwsh!

Like lightning from the heavens, a spear crashed into the ground, separating Lunan and Nueluth, even managing to form a little crack in the ground.

Nueluth's hot blade bounced off the spear.

The shaft of the spear appeared to be made out of bone, rotating and twisting in place, like those kind of fences. The end of the 'spear' dug into the dirt. It could not be seen well, but from the looks of it, it appeared more like an unorthodox trident than anything.

"!"

"!"

Both Lunan and Nueluth were caught off guard.

[Cast: Bone Overgrowth]

The end of the spear which looked like roots, dug into the ground and shot twisting and turning bones out of the ground, wrapping and holding both Lunan and Nueluth.

"What the!?-"

"Shit!"

A person, who had not been there before, perched atop the spear, knees bent. Both Lunan and Nueluth had not even realized that individual was there until they turned and looked at the spear again.

They wore a black poncho that concealed both their face and their figure.

"Who... the hell are you?" Nueluth struggled and twitched.

"..." the person did not respond. They watched silently. Lunan too struggled, but he was more quiet, trying to assess the situation.

"I see. I thought you two were Sar soldiers. General Nueluth van Mahaut, and General Lunan Mumixir."

The person took off their hood, revealing themselves.

A woman, with a striking resemblance to Caelum.

"My name is Rita van Eustis. I'll be working with you guys." she shook the platinum blonde strands of hair out of her face.

The bones retracted, freeing Nueluth and Lunan.

She pulled the bony spear out of the ground. It had three irregular prongs that began to move, twisting to form the shape of a drill, or a lance. Then, the shape closed, becoming more like an eccentric bo-staff than anything.

Nueluth and Lunan fell to the ground; the position they were caught in forced them to do this.

Nueluth was the first to get up, quickly patting her bottom to dust off the sand and rock that clung.

"Rita van Eustis..." she squinted, staring at the woman in front of her.

Lunan got up slowly as well, not taking the time to pat any of the sand off his body.

"You're... Caelum's sister?" Lunan asked, not being able to take his eyes off the horn that shot out of her forehead.

She nodded slowly, with a faint smile on her face.

"I've been sent here to help."
