Chapter 51 - Chapter 41

Chimwemwe's Pov

"Chimzey what the hell are you are you doing here? Don't tell me you used that hoover-board to run away from home? Wait-were did you even get that?" He fired his question like a machine

" 'PFT' Runway? Please Aunt Minerva would've tracked me down and brought me back to the house before I could even blink." I tilted he hoaverboard crossing my legs as it flipped upside down with my magnetism keeping me steady. "I here for the festival remember? Pillar stuff. And the board? It's my friend's. I'm just testing it out."

"Oh right that pillar thing." He folded his arms. "But how'd you even find me, and recognize me?"

I grinned. "I can sense your electric signature form kiloometers away, Uncle J. You stand out like a power line in a blackout. And fresh braids and shades don't make you invisible." He gave me a deapned look. "Man what?"

"Just like your father." He muttered under his breath. "I see your feline ears finally come in." He pointed at them.

"Oh they come in these morning. Don't they make me look clean though?" I twitched them playfully.

He rubbed his chin squinting at me. "Hm. I'll be honest those feline parts suit your aunt and grandmother a lot better."

I huffed at that jab. "Hmm well all the ladies like them. So what's this? You on a top secret Tahkar spy mission?"

"You know I can't give you and detials Chimzey. And even if you did I'll have to kill you." He put his sunglasses back on grinning and I chuckled.

"But you shouldn't be here Chimzey this is private property and I'm on th…" He paused and placed a finger on his ear piece as a feed was coming in. "What is it Manual?… Tell him not to worry, the kid was just about to leave… Are are sure?…Huh alright understood." He got off the call with a sigh.

"Sorry." I said queitly. My ears dropped. "Did I get you in trouble?"

He softened. "Don't worry Chimzey. It's just someone really important just asked to meet you so you can stop giving me that face an sad eyes."

"Really who?"

He pointed at a big boat which was 2.6 kilometers coming towards us. I focused on it a bit more seeing four passengers on it.

The final person was Professor Umar. His appearance looked the similar I've seen on T.V now he was a man in his late forties , 5'7 in height, a well kept goatee with a thin connected beard which graying, gray eyes behind glasses, his head was covered by a straw hat and was wearing a well tailored suit.

I let out a whistle and looked back at my uncle. "Wow Uncle J your really guarding an M.P. You must be getting a big pay check after this?"

"I wish." He muttered.

When the ship docked, Professor Umar got off the boat flanked by the four Tahkar agents watching me very carefully.

"Chimwemwe Cacar. It's an honor to finally meet you." He extended his hand with a warm steady smile.

I blinked in confusion but still shook it. "Uh it's an honor to meet you too Professor Umar. But… how did you know my name?"

He chuckled while rubbing his hand. "Quite the grip you have there young man. And of course I know the name of the boy who saved my life."

"So I guess Phantom Fist and the other members of Shadow Shamans agency told you everything?"

"They did. Your quick thinking along with the creative usage of your quirk to locate and neutralize that Kujitenge agent was quite remarkable ."

"Yeah I know it was pretty amazing." I hummed but I heard uncle J let out a warning cough. "-Oh I mean your welcome and it was nothing really."

"At least we know he is humble." I heard one of the agents dryly remark.

Mr Umar cleared his throat. "After I found out you were part of Rafiq's Pillar Project I scheduled a meeting so I can properly thank you and give you a special reward for your bravery."

"Reward?" Hey if a M.P was offering a special reward as a form of a thank you then who was I to say no.

"Well of course you saved my life and it was only thanks to you I was still able to walk mother Nyasaland and see my family till this day but I hope you don't mind waiting for a bit to receive it." He then began eyeing the hoverboard. "That's a technology. You don't see a lot of pieces of technology of this level in the country."

"Yeah a fellow named Lusungu made it and I'm just testing out for him."

"Hmm interesting Rafiq truly knows how to spot talent. You and the rest of the pillars have promising futures ahead of you… Just like my boy." He silently mumbled the last part.

"Um Professor Umar I know this isn't any of my business but should you even be at this festival. I mean Kujitenge has their sights set on you. Wouldn't it be safer for you and your family to be on the low for a bit?" His face hardened at my question. Oops I think I overstepped?

"Your right that would be a safer." He began to speak and turned to the ocean taking a deep breath. "The people around me have told me the same similar… but tell me young man how does a man hide from the wind when it carries the scent of his child's blood?"

He paused and the air around him grew heavy.

"They killed my boy to silence me. But all they did was give my words a sharper edge." I saw the Takhar guards, even uncle J standing straighter. "Kujitenge… these scavengers of a broken dream. They see themselves as libertarians- culture preservers. In truth they are just cowards who can't move forward. And like all bullies they feed on fear. Once they have it they rule through it. Now, like cornered hyenas, they snarl to remind us they still have teeth." He turned our way and passionately continued and weird why do I feel a bit awed, pumped and inspired.

'What the hell is going on?' I felt my electricity acting a bit weird in my body so I began checking my body a bit.

"But the people of Nyasaland are not trembling children anymore. We are the drumbeat that never stopped that never stopped, the flame that refused to go out in the dark. They can burn villages, hire the cruelest villains, but they cannot unmake courage.

An African scholar from the pre-quirk area named wrote 'When suffering knocks at your door and you say there is no seat for him, he tells not worry because he has brought his own stool.' I have learned to let suffering sit drink tea with him and then send him away empty-handed." He finished his speech and one of the male guard who made the remark earlier began to clap and the rest followed with reverent nods.

'Wow hearing one of the speeches live is different from hearing it on T.V. And did this man just quote Chinua Achebe?'

I turned to the Takhar agents and they looked at him with admiration and looked to be ready to march straight into a war at the man's command. Guess his quirks is a moral boaster quirk but I could be reaching a bit as not everything is a quirk and it could just but that good at giving speeches, but like me uncle J looking down at himself a bit.

'Nah it's definitely some kind of passive mental quirk or something.' But quirk or not it was still inspiring.

"Well said sir." The female agent nodded in respect.

"Excuse me sir but we should go. You have to get ready for the meeting soon." One of the guards informed him.

"Aright.Well it was a pleasure meeting Chimwemwe. I hope we have a chance for more during your trip young lion." He nodded and began leaving with the agents.

My ears twitched. "Young lon." That was the second time today someone said that. Was it could've just metaphorical, or did he actually know about the tribe?

I rubbed the back of my neck. "Werid." I muttered, taking off into the sky.

My phone buzzed and saw a message from Nova asking where I was and telling me where to meet her, so I picked up the speed heading towards stone town.

While flying my radar picked up something really weird. I guess the best way to describe it is that it felt layered. Familiar, but different at the same time. Like several signals fused together. Feeling a bit curious, I followed it, keeping my distance until I spotted the source.

I was surprised when I saw the winged girl from earlier just scribbling on a note book, and the source of the signature seemed to be her wings. Weird that I didn't sense that when she was earlier today, but then again my radar wasn't really up.

She suddenly turned my way and yelped, almost dropping her notebook and pencil. I caught them midair with my magnetism, but her upper wings flared defensively.

"Wait, you're that boy from earlier! Have you been stalking me!?" She gave me an intense glare.

"Wow, chill. I just thought your wings were pretty cool that's it and only wanted to get a bit of a closer look. Sorry if I scare you." I raised my arms and at least her expression.

"W-Well thank you the compliant. And at least you apologized. But it's not nice to sneak up on people like that." She huffed while taking the notebook and pencil back in her hands. "And I wasn't scared you just caught me off guard a little."

I mused and laid on the board."That's just a fancy way of getting scared you know?"

She shook her head firmly, tilting it. "No, it's completely different. 'Scared' would make me panic or frightened which I was not. But 'caught off guard' just means I lost the mean train of thought."

Yeah. Englsh teacher's favorite stundent over her.

"If you say soo." I shrugged but she eyed me curiously. "What's up?"

"Nothing, it's just… I never thought I'd see a member of the Mlenji mphaka tribe here in the south. I thought all you cats like staying in your territory in the centre. Did you use that hoverboard to get here." She floated closer and began inspecting it..

'What the hell?' And that was number three on this happening today. Is the tribe that famous or infamous? "What?"

"Hey what's your name?" She asked.

"Isn't better to introduce your first."

"O-Oh right who is improper of me." She tugged her dress and bowed. "My name is Malaika Mbingu and you are." It's not really a thing I just want to see if she would do it.

"Chimwemwe Cacar but you can call Chimzey. Nice to me you Malaika."

"Cacar?" She repeated while making bird noises (couldn't tell which one), her brows lifting in mild surprise. "That's… interesting." A small smirk formed on her face and a glint lit in her eyes. "Well, it was nice meeting you, Chimzey. I hope you enjoy the festival."

"Well that was… Interesting" But I shrugged it off to stone town
