After the crow finally flew away, Jojo remained near the open window for a few seconds, watching its dark shape disappear between the trees until he could no longer see it.

He slowly closed the window and locked it before turning back toward the room.

The strange contract was still in his hand, its red aura having faded considerably now that the servant of Death was gone.

On the table, the old pocket watch continued to tick quietly, and the spirit bound to it was still standing beside the object, watching Jojo with an expression that suggested he had no idea what had just happened but was desperately hoping that whatever deal Jojo had been discussing would somehow help him.

Jojo walked back to the table and placed the contract beside the watch.

"Don't worry,"

he told the spirit, picking up the watch and examining it again.

"I haven't forgotten about you. Apparently, getting you out of this thing is going to involve a lot more than breaking a curse and smashing the watch."

The spirit looked at him silently, and Jojo was about to continue when the sound of movement suddenly came from the hallway.

Before he could even turn around properly, Alice and Rosalie rushed into the room at a speed that would have been impossible for any ordinary human to follow.

Alice reached him first and immediately grabbed his shoulders, looking him over from head to toe, while Rosalie moved past her and quickly scanned the room.

"Are you alright?"

Alice asked, her voice carrying genuine concern.

"I saw you standing by the window with something, but the vision was strange. I couldn't make out everything, and then I saw that red mist and something that looked like a contract. For a moment I thought someone had come here to attack you."

Jojo looked at Alice for a moment before understanding what had happened.

"You had a vision about the crow, didn't you?"

Alice nodded.

"Yes. The moment it appeared, I saw pieces of what was happening. I couldn't understand what the creature was saying, but I knew you were talking to something that wasn't normal, and when I saw that thing forming in front of it, I thought you might have gotten yourself into trouble again."

She glanced toward Rosalie, who had already relaxed slightly after confirming that there was no immediate threat.

"I told Rosalie what I saw, and we came straight here."

Jojo gave a small sigh and picked up the contract again.

"It wasn't an enemy, so you didn't need to panic. That crow was actually a servant of Death, and it came here because it wanted to make a contract with me."

Alice stared at him.

Rosalie stared at him.

For several seconds neither woman said anything.

"I'm sorry,"

Rosalie finally said, looking at him as though she wasn't sure whether he was joking.

"Did you just say a servant of Death came to your house and asked you to sign a contract?"

"Yes."

Alice looked toward the closed window and then back at Jojo.

"And you were just standing there talking to it?"

"What else was I supposed to do? Scream and run away because a crow started talking?"

"That would have at least been a reasonable first reaction,"

Rosalie muttered.

Jojo couldn't help smiling.

"I was surprised, alright? I wasn't exactly expecting a bird to start speaking to me in a man's voice and introduce itself as a servant responsible for escorting souls to the afterlife."

Before Alice or Rosalie could respond, Freya entered the room with Inadu following behind her.

Freya had clearly heard enough of the conversation from outside to know what they were discussing, and the moment she saw the strange contract lying on the table, her expression became much more serious.

She walked over and picked it up carefully, examining the strange material and the faint red energy still lingering across its surface.

"Jojo, don't rush into this,"

Freya said after reading through part of it.

"I understand why you're interested, especially after what happened with the spirit in that watch, but Death isn't something you can treat like another supernatural being offering you a favour. Whatever this servant told you, you need to think about it very carefully before you put your name on that contract."

Jojo leaned against the edge of the table.

"I know. That's why I haven't signed it yet."

Freya looked at him and nodded.

"Good, because we're talking about something fundamentally different from the contracts you've made with humans and supernatural beings. Death isn't simply another powerful entity that happens to rule over dead people."

"It's part of the cycle itself. Every living thing eventually reaches it, every soul passes through it, and countless supernatural systems depend on that cycle continuing properly."

"If you make an agreement connected to that force, even if the servant has no intention of harming you, you need to understand exactly what you're agreeing to."

Inadu stepped closer and looked at the contract over Freya's shoulder.

"The fact that the servant offered you access to its kind is already significant. According to what you've told us, they can guide you when you're dealing with souls and matters connected to death, and eventually you may even be able to call upon Death itself without disrupting the natural cycle."

"That is not a small privilege, Jojo. There are beings that have existed for thousands of years who would consider such an ability priceless."

"I know,"

Jojo replied, looking down at the contract.

"That's exactly why I'm interested. I've spent years dealing with ghosts, cursed objects, demons and souls that shouldn't be trapped where they are, but there are still things I don't understand."

"If I can actually speak to something that understands the rules governing death, it could answer questions I've been trying to solve for years."

Freya handed the contract back to him but kept her eyes on him.

"Then learn everything you can before signing it. Ask the servant every question you can think of. Find out what the contract allows, what it doesn't allow, whether the agreement can be ended, what happens if either side breaks its terms, and most importantly, find out what the contract considers a violation."

"Don't assume that because there isn't an obvious demand for your soul that there isn't something else you might be agreeing to."

Jojo nodded slowly.

"That's fair."

Alice finally relaxed enough to move closer to him.

"So you're really considering it?"

Jojo looked at the strange contract in his hand, then at the old pocket watch sitting on the table.

The trapped spirit was still there, silently watching all of them, and Jojo couldn't ignore the fact that the servant of Death might be the first person who could actually explain how to release him without destroying the soul along with the cursed object.

"I am," Jojo admitted.

"But I'm not signing anything tonight. I'll find out exactly what I'm getting into first. If the contract really is what that crow claims it is, then it could be useful. If there's even one thing that doesn't make sense, I'm walking away."

Rosalie gave him a knowing look.

"That's probably the smartest thing you've said all evening."

Jojo smiled innocently.

"I'm capable of being sensible occasionally."

Alice immediately raised an eyebrow.

"Occasionally?"

Jojo ignored her.

Freya looked toward the old pocket watch.

He carefully placed the watch back on the table and looked at the trapped spirit.

"We'll figure this out. It might take some time, but you're not being destroyed just because somebody made the mistake of binding your soul to an old watch."

The spirit lowered his head slightly, almost as though he understood the promise.
