Chapter 23 - Obtaining A Seat Of Power

Alex logged out of Redemption Online before heading back to her family home where the family meeting would be held.

She planned out what she was going to say, and what how she would respond to various questions because although it was called a family meeting in reality it was a meeting between all the people who wield immense power within the Great Underground which just so happens to be the Rangers family.

As such, even though it was a family meeting, everyone would be fighting for resources, and power in hopes of elevating their branch's power. They would fight tooth, and nail for everything mercilessly because that was the only way to survive in the underworld.

She walked into her father's study where he was sitting behind the desk imposingly.

Despite seeing her own father she felt that he was completely different from usual, he was incomparably solemn, and the aura he exuded was terrifying.

"You're here early, well let's get going."

Alex followed her father into a secret door that led to a downwards spiralling staircase that went on for a while before arriving in a brightly lit meeting room. Although she had imagined what it would look like, Alex had always imagined the meeting room to be like an underground dungeon with damp walls, and candles for lighting.

Due to her being early by half an hour nobody besides the two of them had arrived yet, after all her brothers were all stationed in different places across the world to manage them, and as such meeting usually only happened once a year.

Alex casually waited whilst browsing through her cellphone on world events going on. Her father simply sat at the front of the table pondering over something.

Alex browsed through Redemption Online's forums to see how players were progressing. It seemed to her that the mainstream level had already reached 11, and players were mostly kitted out in uncommon, and rare items.

It seemed to her that there weren't even clues to finding an extraordinary item which showed its value, and rarity.

Players had quickly established guilds although none of them were official guilds because guild registration tokens only dropped from level 20+ bosses. It seemed that it would still take some time for guilds to properly form.

Many players complained about the realism of the game. Apparently if you spent enough time in the game you would realise that NPC's could do anything including farting, and burping.

This caused many players to realise truly how much time, and effort was spent in the creation of the game. As she browsed further she realised that some major corporations that were involved in the security industry had established guilds because they intended to use Redemption Online as a training grounds for their employees.

As she continued browsing her brothers started trickling in. From her left to right was her 9th brother, 8th brother, 7th brother... on, and on until they reached a stern faced man who was her eldest brother.

They were all somewhat surprised that their sister was here because she had never shown any interest in managing a branch before figuring out what she wanted to do, and as such they assumed that she had found her path in life.

While all of them were wondering what was going on, Alex's father stood up.

"Let this meeting begin, the first thing I have to announce is my nomination of Alex Rangers as the branch manager of the Great Underground's VR Gaming Guild. All in favour click green."
