The employees in the company were chattering away beside him, he hadn't really been listening carefully, but he could still vaguely sense what they were talking about, which made him even more disinterested—until the ringtone of his phone on the desk suddenly startled him to attention.
Leaning lazily against the soft chair, he gave the caller ID on his phone a cursory glance. His expression froze momentarily, his eyes grew distant, and then he picked up the phone. As if unsure, he scrutinized the name on the caller ID carefully, staring blankly for a full thirty seconds before confirming that it was indeed Chu Chu calling.
He immediately stood up, paying no mind to everyone in the room, and walked out of the conference room with his phone in hand.
His pace was especially quick as he walked into his own office, locking the door from the inside. In the ensuing silence, his fingers trembling, he answered the phone, saying, "Chu Chu?"
